Working Great After Exchange
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use my router for home and work. I use the advanced routing, dhcp with reservations(great idea the network devices always get the same ip address without me having to make them static inside each device if I can). Love the dynamic IP as I need the outside world to always have the right ip address assoicated with my server(s) names. The first unit had 4 bad ports out of 8. The exchange unit has been flawless. Recommend as the wifi is much faster as there are more traffic lanes per wifi device and the ability to configure the unit is very good. Wish you could ssh into the unit and use the command line to set options. That's the only drawback I see at this time. Overall a great perfomer for the money.

Firmware is pre-mature, connectivity is solid
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been trying out various routers across the mfg spectrum over the past 6 months. With the number of devices in our household, reliability of connection, consistency of speed, the UI and IPv6 performance were my top metrics. TP-Link is catching up to everyone and in many respects - surpassing them, but this particular Linksys model has great potential although a tab bit expensive. All the devices in my home operate flawlessly with this router. 2.4 GHz speeds are strong and speedy even at 100 ft & through walls. 5 GHz speeds are also amazingly strong, but do degrade at 100 ft (through walls) but not nearly as much as the other 3 top Linksys models. Smart Connect, Beamforming and MIMO in this router coupled with obviously strong as heck transmitters makes for a solid bit of kit. My only gripes with this top-flight model is that it is missing the 'over-all' wireless scheduling tab in the control panel and it has limited IPv6 control. You can control individual client schedules with Parental Controls, but that's tedious. The Linksys engineers need to roll out a firmware update that includes this important wireless control tab that is present on most WORTHY, modern wireless routers ... including all of the newest Linksys rigs. There's really no excuse for this omission on a $400 router. The engineers need to add greater detailed control over IPv6 handling as well (but I don't expect much on that front). Cannot recommend this router until the wireless scheduling is added to the UI.

Still evaluationg but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not a techie. I fall into the category of "I have the brainpower to figure it out but not the desire." I'm am going through a process of elimination having to do with stalling on streaming devices. I had a router of the same brand that was remarkbly old and still functioning well but I thought since I cut the cord maybe my bandwidth requirements were beyond the old router. I did test my devices, speed of internet connection, etc before droppign bank on this router. Best Buy was also very good about price matching. They are very good about returns and their staff is usually pretty good about listening and recommending so this is a case where I really prefer buying from them. Sooooo.... The router seems to be working fine. It was definitely easier to set up than my last router. I did need to go online and create an account and modify things and that's actually where I had the most trouble. The instructions weren't that clear and one error message said I needed to download new firmware and wanted me to burn it to a disk. My laptop doesn't have a disc & I've yet to find need for one. I had to call technical support. The person had a fairly thick accent but was mostly understandable. She started the call by saying something kind of offensive and when I commented on it I was told I heard wrong. I gave that a big mental "whatever" and moved on. She proved to be very patient although I'm pretty sure she was working at home without the proper set-up because I was put on hold many times for screaming kids. That being said, she wanted to access my network remotely to fix the problem but it cost extra. I have extra security measures because of the nature of my work & that would be a breach so I couldn't allow it. She walked me step by step through the process. It turns out the most recent version of firmware was installed. The online set-up did have conflicting instructions. In the end, it turned out I had to type the IP address of the online assistant instead of following the regular text URL and it worked. The bottom line in the set-up is all I needed to do was remove the "guest" from the router. It set itself up with that. Once I got through all the hassle actually remove the guest was easy. My old router I couldn't remove it at all and I thought maybe a guest was on chewing up all my bandwidth. I didn't notice an improvement in my streaming devices. I have a VPN so I don't think the cable company is throttling me but I don't know for sure. I noticed AMAZING improvement in my laptop speed with everything. For that alone it is worth it. I have not yet tested the range since that's really not an issue. Once I got the online interface working everything was obvious. It was easy to designate priority devices, turn off the guest, rename things, etc. One last thing... when I went into Best Buy I presented the sales rep with my problem. I told her the devices I had hooked up, what I was observing and why I was considering a new router. I already knew which one wanted since I tend to practice "overkill" when it comes to electronics. She recommended a much less expensive device as sufficient for my needs. I was pretty impressed she listened intently, ruled out some lower end products and didn't go straight for the most expensive thing on the shelf. I did buy the most expensive thing on the shelf anyway but at least I wasn't hustled for it. P.S. I type very fast so excuse my electronic rambling.

Best Router I've Owned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an absolute beast of a router. The range of the device is phenomenal. I have nearly an acre of land and I can nearly get signal to the back of my property on the 2.4GHz band. The two 5GHz band also have fantastic range and I have full signal strength throughout my 1,700sq/ft home. The only problem I had was with the 5GHz smart wifi connection. It's supposed to use the two bands together in order to always give you full signal strength, but I found it was always dropping connection on all my devices. I turned that feature off and there have been no issues since.

Excellent wireless router for our house.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I live in a bigger house, with multiple levels and needed a wireless router that could penetrate walls and multiple floors, without losing a signal. This router was compared with similar models from other brands and because it was rated as easy to setup (It was.) and had strong range and able to assign products to accessing the signal, blocking out others but also create a guest wireless account (Again all easy to setup), plus Best Buy was willing to price match what Amazon.com offered, it became a no-brainer. Highly recommend this product.
