Close to perfect but Plagued w/Software Issues

I've had this for 3 days now, had nothing but software issues. Will be returning the product to exchange for a diff. brand. I do love the product, simple overall design, has the latest features available, not too complicated. But is dragged by its software support. The design is simple, compact, not too many antennas. Wall mountable & there not much excessive antennas. Also they are not fixed so they can positioned as needed. I'm just returning to Linksys as in the past I've had 3-4 of them. Just left for a different brand to try out. However, this product is plagued with issues. 1st It is useless w/o the app. Try to set up w/desktop interface. There is a Ad popup requesting to use the APP. Should be flexible between the 2. Also you have limited control in the APP, as it was designed for the Velop Mesh system. 2nd Setup is a pain as it takes almost half hour for "setup " which I think is just hoax to collect & sell your data. LOL 3rd The Speed Test feature does not work, I have 1200 down & 40 up. Tried it out and it gave me 200~300 down and 30~40up. The upload made some sense, but the down is ridiculous. Tried re-run the test again, the stopped working. Tried calling support but they just gave me instructions to restore the router which I did 3 times. Also just incase I only attached my desktop. Another, I tried running speed test using 3rd party and its measuring 800 down. 4th There is no way to control the wifi bands, frequency manually. Also the proxy control for those who have Servers, NAS, Virtual Machine, Etc. Finally, 5th Interface is nice and simple, but you can't fully take advantage of it as you only have limited control of the router. Although , I do recommend this product for those who don't really need much and wants something that is easy, setup & forget. But I do not recommend for those who want more finer control.

I made the switch from an eero system to this router as I needed more bandwidth and wanted to test this out. The setup was not too difficult, the app does most of the work. From the get go, I was surprised by the range. This was reaching all the way to my attic with no trouble, whereas my previous system definitely needed the mesh points to get good signal. However, one consistent problem that keeps recurring is whenever devices reconnect to the wifi. Very often these devices will connect to the wifi, but the internet will not work. They will stay stuck loading, and attempting to run a speedtest will just stay stuck. I would have to manually disconnect and reconnect the device to the wifi before it usually works again. On rare occasions, I have to fully reboot my router. Note that this NEVER happened with my eero system. For this reason, I will be returning it. TL:DR - great range and signal, inconsistent connection and often when a device reconnects, internet doesnt work .

Honestly, for someone that wants some basic wifi with ok speeds with maybe 2 devices. I was getting 70mbps with this and it’s not fast. My starlink router is much faster topping out at 300mbpd but there are less options to customize the network. Also this router has many bugs in the customization part. Not worth it if your into heavy gaming or other. Rather spend more on a high end router. It’s not a bad router but it’s not advanced or have high end components to have high speeds.

      Hi,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Rest assured that this is not the expected behavior of the Linksys Hydra Pro 6E. As long as it is equipped with its latest firmware and the connection from where it is connected to is stable - it can cover up to 2700 sq ft, can accommodate 55+ devices, and speeds up to 6.6 Gbps good for gaming/live streams. Moreover, our 2nd Level Team wants to understand your current setup and setbacks. You may email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details and the link to your review for reference.

Pros: - Simple to configure because there's hardly any options - Has some good options for meshing AP's together - Stability seemed great with wifi ranges that exceed expectations - Wifi 6 bandwidth is great. 861 down / 25.3 up from my phone Cons: - Simple to configure, because there's literally no options. To dig farther into this, I can't even set the router to use a DNS server that I denote (Pi-hole for network wide advertisement blocking). - Your router administration login page will forever tell you to use the app and there's no way to change it. Even if you set 'wireless router configuration' to disabled... - I live in an apartment and like to change the wireless frequencies to churn through polluted airwaves but I can't do that. I have some older 2.4GHz wireless cameras that would greatly benefit from this... TL;DR: If you want something pretty much plug and forget with the latest tech, this is fine. If you want something even remotely configurable or customizable to your situation, pass this one for sure. You're spending the money for Wifi6 speeds but that's about it.

Setup forces you to go through their app, and as if that's not bad enough, their app is terrible. Once it is finally set up, the settings are EXTREMELY limited, and not to mention many settings are only available via the app and not the web GUI. Added one star because the LAN and 5Ghz wifi 6 is solid. The 6e is a bit unreliable though.

      Hi Dyeace,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. There are 2 ways in setting up your Linksys Mesh router. You can use the Linksys app or use the Linksys Intelligent Mesh simple setup using a web browser.
Moreover, when accessing the browser-based user interface of the router. Make sure to click the "CA" link at the bottom of the dashboard to enable advanced access to the router’s settings.
Our Escalation Engineers would be more than glad to assist you with your Linksys device. Just email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact information and a link to this review as our reference when you reach out.

This is my 3rd or 4th Linksys router. Based on past positive experience, I narrowed my new router search to Linksys quickly. Past Linksys routers installed quickly and easily. Unfortunately, this model was the worst, most difficult router installation experience I had. It was essentially mandatory to use their app in the installation process. The app was not particularly easy to navigate. When finally up an running I got speeds less than half of what I got from the same ISP on the older Linksys router I was replacing. Ended up spending an hour on the phone with Linksys support (I guess that's a positive!), and in the end it worked, but I am still not sure *what* worked. Even now, weeks later, I periodically have to unplug, and re-plug the ethernet cable from the modem to get my desired speeds back. Knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased this. I still might replace it sooner rather than later.

Out of the box none of my Apple devices would connect. Had to seperate out the SSIDs for the five devices to connect. Then they would connect to the 5 mhz network but not have internet. Found the ip privacy setting on the phones that I had to turn off. That allowed the phones to connect to actually have internet. Apple TV still has no internet if connected to the 5mhz network. Finally today one apple device was connected but had no internet. Rebooted and hard booted thw phone, still mothing. Rebooted the router and everything was fine. All other devices were fine. The router randimly decided to block one device. Guess its going back.

Cannot change the wifi channel, channel width or the wifi mode. I Have a ticket open with linksys. The auto channel select sucks. I have a EA9500 and a WRT3200 that I can select the channels and channel width and both routers are outperforming this one!
