I really like the Linksys - Velop AC Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System with one primary node and two plug-in nodes. The primary node supports up to 2200Mpbs and each plug-in node supports up to 1300Mpbs. This current system is set up in my non-brick newly constructed ranch single-story home covering 1,550 square feet. The primary node is placed in the center room of the house. Each plug-in node is located on the front and back wall outlets of my home being the furthest apart from each other. Upon setting up the plug-in nodes in this manner, I do have blue indicator lights showing good connection to the primary node. I have not had any issues with connectivity of any of my existing wireless devices such as a wireless camera/doorbell, wireless thermostat, wireless printer, and various mobile phones and tablets. This Wi-Fi system only allows for administration via its Linksys App. Some techies may not like this format as it is not rich in the depth of technical settings you may find via the use of a PC. I did find the app very easy to use on my Samsung Galaxy S 9+, but was not supported by my LG tablet that I use mostly at home. As for speed, I have 1GB fiber service to my home supporting speeds up to 950Mbps UL/D. Using Speedtest.net on my SGS9+ I am averaging 200Mbps UL/DL on the plug-in nodes and 370Mbps UL/DL on the primary node. For those users that like plug and play devices, you will find this Wi-Fi system easy to set-up and configure with its App along with great performance. Those possessing high technical skills may find this system not to have all the bells and whistles offered via the App. Pros: Easy to configure Intuitive app for set-up and maintaining your Wi-Fi network. Great performance. Cons: App may not support all tablets. Cannot over-ride connecting strait to the primary node versus the default connection to the nearest node. Cannot configure system via a PC, only driven by the Linksys App.

I’m not very technically oriented but can manage simple things. I was happy to find that this system was designed in a way that all you need is to know English and how to follow simple instructions. Got it set up on less than half an hour and started enjoying fast internet around the house. And it’s a beautiful product too! No need to spend a fortune on Eero!

Great Device, Doesn't Play Well With Existing WiFi

The Velop Tri-Band mesh system is pretty cool. The stylish devices form a mesh network that effectively extends the range of your wireless internet without compromising on speed, relative to using a dual-band wifi router. The Velop is easy to set up with the companion app. After configuring the main device, which plugs into your cable modem or router, you then set up secondary devices which will extend the wireless network while keeping the same SSID. You can also configure a guest network via the Velop. What I like about the pluggable nodes is that I don't have to route a cable for the extender units. Even though the originals look good, it still ends up needing to take up table or shelf space. That said, these aren't perfect either. They are bigger that most things you'd plug into an outlet and will block the second AC outlet even though they only need one. With a Velop only system, performance is pretty good. I was happy with network throughput and validate that it does provide more bandwidth/connectivity in areas my single router struggles to cover. However, once again, using it together with an existing wifi router doesn't always work well. One of the nice points about the Velop is that it makes your network available on both the 2.4G and 5G bands. This can be useful for older wireless devices that can connect to 2.4G, but not 5G. Unfortunately, when used in bridge mode, the 2.4G only devices have a hard time connecting or don't at all. This is likely not a dealbreaker for some, but for those who have already invested in a powerful feature rich router, needing to completely swap to the Velop is a deal breaker. I really vacillated between three and four stars. Personally, I'd rate 3 stars. If you're in the camp where you don't need the bridge feature and will have the Velop replace your wifi router altogether, consider this a four star rating.
