Another Great Harmony Remote with Confusing Setup

I’ve been using Harmony remotes forever and recently upgraded an old Harmony One to this version since I needed RF control and wanted to try their latest top of the line option. My experience was similar to other Harmony Remotes I’ve used over the years: unmatched database of devices, relatively easy to get up and running, somewhat difficult to do advanced programming, and frustrating software. Overall, this is certainly better than a coffee table full of remotes and is an easy recommendation if you’re not planning extensive customization.
This is the first time I’ve used a Harmony that has an app and while that works OK as a remote, programming on the app is frustrating - it’s difficult to find what you want, and it’s annoying that some programming functions can only be done on the app since I prefer to use the computer for programming (which is a LITTLE better and easier to use). So I’ll be programming the remote on the computer and think that I can’t do something simple, but later find out I can do it on the app (or on the remote itself). Other issues I’ve noticed is that when I change the device order for Power On and add delays, it no longer sends the correct command to the TV; I’ve had to keep the default Power On series and then deal with HDMI sync issues. It’s also annoying that the PS5 is not in their database yet...
One thing that’s a definite improvement from previous Harmony remotes is the ability to sync changes wirelessly - but again that can be confusing because about 75% of the time you can sync wirelessly but then other times it will want you to plug it into the computer to sync. Another big improvement is adding favorite channels - it automatically searches your local cable/satellite provider to pull up the correct channel numbers.

Hi Nittany93, Thank you for this very comprehensive and insightful 4-star review of the Harmony Elite---your feedback is greatly appreciated. Harmony is always updating their device database so we appreciate your patience in regards to the PS5. If any issues should come up, here's a link to the product support page for the Harmony Elite https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/elite. Hope you find this helpful and that all is going well. Thank you for choosing Logitech. - Richard from Logitech

I was a Geeksquad home theater installer for 7 years. I have seen hundreds of universal remotes including several versions of the harmony. This is one of the best harmony remotes I have ever used. It fixes many of the bugs that the touch/ultimate had. You have the benefit of new technologies like Bluetooth but you have the simple design similar to the long time standard the harmony one. Altogether a very good remote with out spending a crazy amount of money.

I had a Harmony 880 for a few years until the buttons, one by one, became unresponsive. Despite its poor quality, during the time it worked, the functionality and ergonomics were very good. Until the Harmony Elite became available, I have avoided Logitech's products due to bad ergonomics, or too high cost. I'm glad to say the Logitech's Harmony Elite is very easy to use, has excellent ergonomics, and the ipad app makes it easier to set up than my old 880.

This is my third generation of logitech remotes and I can say will confidence that they are finally getting it right. Set up was extremely easy, RF range is great, I have no issues with the signal reaching the correct device and the battery life is phenomenal.. I really appreciate the slight vibration when a touch screen button is used. I am completely pleased.

I've been using this remote for about 2 months now and am very happy with it. It was easy to set up and works with equipment that is inside my audio closet as well as equipment below my TV. Both respond to the remote because it can be programmed to communicate with RF for components in the closet as well as IR for those components out in the listening/watching room. My only complaint about this remote is the cost.

I think everyone can relate to having a side table just covered in remotes! TV, DVD, cable box, speaker system, game system, it was crazy in our house. We had transitioned to the Phillips Hue lighting system with Alexa about a year ago and that was what sold me. Now we have 1 remote, that sits on the charger base 90% of the time because I can just ask Alexa to control the TV. We absolutely love it - 5 stars!

I have been a Harmony user for over 10 years and more than 5 different models. The integration with Alexa was the main draw for this remote, and so far it has worked pretty well. Like some other reviews have stated, sometimes Alexa forgets what she is controlling and you have to ask her to start the activity again to get it to work. That’s a flaw with Alexa, not Harmony. Overall it’s a fantastic remote.

Easy to setup and program. Very user friendly and works seamlessly with most devices. The battery life however is not very good due to the charge not lasting very long. It only lasts a few days with moderate use. The charging cradle however is nice and can be placed just about anywhere so charging it is not a chore.

I had a previous Harmony remote, the Harmony One. While it was good, it never replaced my TiVo peanut for the bulk of my remote usage. This Harmony Elite however has made me put away the peanut--well, not for programming searches, since I have the "slide" peanut with an actual keyboard--but for everything else, including all other non-search-related TiVo action, the Harmony Elite is the only remote sitting on the coffee table.

This remote was purchased so I could operate TV and CD player without using 3 different remotes and also was told only way to operate without leaving my wood doors on entertainment center open. Found out when Comcast was installed that the Comcast remote controller does all this so I will be returning to store.

Upgraded from an older Harmony remote because of trade in deal and because my old remote would not do everything. The Elite is able to do everything and the Smartphone apt. is much easier to use than connecting remote to my computer. I only gave it 4 stars because it is a little confusing for everyone to use.

The Harmony Elite Universal Remote has absolutely transformed the inconvenience we have experienced for years. We now control the TV, Receiver, DirecTV and Blu-Ray Player with one device. It can do more and when we get our new electronic / wireless blinds it will take care of them as well. Great product, easy setup, easy to use and even my wife that hates these devices admits it is fantastic.

The Logitech Harmony Elite remote is bar none the best remote I have owned. It found all my devices by an online app and the ease of setting up activities was a breeze. With just a push of a button it turns all my devices on, turns them to proper state for the complete start up. I.E. TV activity : Turns on the TV, the sound, bar, and sets each to the proper HDMI port connected to it........

I currently have the following: Sony TV, Denon receiver, Direct TV, Sony CD changer, and Xbox.
This remote is really easy to program with either your smart phone or computer. It easily identifies the item and sets the remote configurations. If there are buttons or features the Harmony does not automatically set, you can use your computer or smartphone to assign buttons. Although, Harmony Elite is so good at configuration the buttons I did not have to do many button assignments. One tip, you may want to configure to create single button shortcuts.
As I got started, I noticed the OFF button on the remote seemed useless. The purpose of the off button is to turn off all devices that are operating. However, it only works when you program the Activities on the remote. It will not work if you were to turn on individual components one at a time. The Activities feature is a way to program the remote to activate multiple components. For example, if I wanted to watch Blu-ray movies on my Xbox, I set an activity programing the remote to turn on the TV, the Xbox, and the receiver and assign what controls the volume and each component input. Setting Activities allows the user to operate commands for the proper components (i.e. volume – receiver, play/pause – the Xbox, etc.) Otherwise, the user would have to toggle between components or, as in other universal remotes, this eliminates the need to constantly select devices for different commands. Since I have multiple devices that have apps like Netflix, the Activities feature allows me to identify which component is to run the Netflix app. My Activities is programed to run Netflix on my TV yet control the volume on my receiver while still using the TV commands to control the Netflix and TV menu.
The only problem I am finding is when watching Direct TV, there is a delay in the number's command buttons when changing channels. I tried to create a fix by programming a channel favorites list. However, even when that is programed there is a delay from the remote, to the hub, to the Direct TV. I hope there is a patch that fixes this because changing channels is a bit frustrating. This problem is the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Love the Logitech brand for smart remotes.. This truly does take the place of 15 remotes.. Take your time and tweak the remote settings through the app and you will have a very enjoyable remote to use.. If you just pull out of box, do a quick setup and think that's it... Well you're gonna have a bad time.. Take the time to learn the remote and it's features and you will have an easy control centerpiece for the room

It’s overall a great remote. Very responsive and easy to program (I assume) with cable and satellite providers. I watch IPTV through my AppleTV, so setup was a bit trickier. A lot of trial, error, and updating settings.

Reconfiguring our in home theatre set up and chose this remote as our components are behind a wall. This works beautifully to watch, listen and play with our set up. Also would recommend Geek Squad with this as they were extremely helpful and took the time to make sure that we all knew how to operate using this remote and the app that you can down load to work with this System too.

While I had issues getting this setup, it is a very nice home entertainment addition with lots of features. The favorite channels layout is really nice. I also like that it can be integrated with Amazon Echo and that you don't need line of site to operate our entertainment center.

Always wanted this remote but hesitated to get it because of the price.
This remote is all you need with the technology that is going on now. I went from 4 controller to just one. Even my kids love it. Only down fall, it doesn't have physical number buttons but you'll get use to it with a simple swipe to the left or right. Great product. End up getting it while it was on sale.
