    Disappointing performance

Being a corded mouse, it should have a smooth and lag-free performance but that is not the case with this mouse. After trying about half a dozen cordless Logitech mice, I decided to go with this one but unfortunately, it did not work out. I have even opened a ticket with Logitech and they do not bother replying to you. It is impossible to reach them by phone because you are on hold forever.

    Perfect Mouse

Great ergonomic design, perfect size for my hand (unlike some desktop mice), love the scroll wheel. Plug and play (no need to load additional software unless you want to re-program the buttons). If you need a corded mice without the hassles of the wireless disconnects and battery replacement, you can't do better than this mouse.

Great on both PC and Mac

I use this mouse on both Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.6 using a KVM switch. I installed the Logitech Control Center SW on both systems, and they both work great. I've never had a mouse with extra buttons before, and they are really nice to have. I love the ergonomics. The mouse is very easy to hold and the buttons are easy to operate. Many reviews complain about the scroll wheel, but I love it. I keep it on the "flick" (no click) mode. I can scroll fast but still stop the scrolling where I want. The left-right scrolling works fine as well. It's nice to have the "Applications Switcher" on the Windows XP. It's sort of like Expose on the Mac, although it's a bit clunky. On the PC, you need to press the application switcher button to bring up the visible windows, but then you need to click with the left button to select the window you want. On the Mac the same button can be used to both bring up Expose, and also select the desired window. One warning for Mac users: The driver function that lets you set application-specific button functions appears to be PC-only; I couldn't find similar functionality in the Mac driver.

without logitech a computer is useless

So many people underestimate the value of a proper sized/shaped mouse. Everybody wants the cute little wireless mice even for desktops! I am on a budget but I would have purchased the new Performance Mouse MX if it was wired believe it or not. I'm just not a wireless fan. I figured this is the next best thing that has a cord and is ALMOST as comfortable. If you haven't used one of logitech's more advanced mice, try one! The fast scroll feature is great. Zooming in and out of my CAD models has never been easier. Scrolling through long web pages and lists is so quick. For those who don't know. The little button sitting just behind the wheel actually releases the ratcheting mechanism and allows the weighted scroll wheel to spin freely. GREAT feature! Its comfortable, its laser precise, and its on the lower price range. Stop overlooking the value of fit and form. If you use your computer at extended lengths, you need a mouse that won't make your hand cramp up. I only wish it was a tad bit wider... then again, had i bought the Performance Mouse MX, i wouldn't be complaining.

    Great performing laser mouse

I was on the lookout for a suitable laser mouse which is corded... I was a fan of cordless input devices before, but ever since I had a bad experience of losing battery power during in-game, I would not want to use a cordless device again. This thing fits well on my hand, has a nice rubbery finish on it, and so far, did not fail me even once! Though this mouse is not a gaming grade one, it seems to perform really well on some of my FPS games. I failed to see the Logitech G9 from the Best Buy site, which can only be bought online and is an Outlet item already, but I might purchase that one soon and give it a shot - will post another review if ever. Overall, the Logitech M500 is a highly recommended product!

    Logitech can do better

This mouse has a comfortable shape and size especially for those with medium sized hands. I don't think it would work for users with very small or very large hands. It has nice matte material on the top that prevents sweat build up, and the sides have a nice rubbery feel. The main buttons click nicely and the laser tracks well, as this is a wired mouse (i hate wireless) and thus there is none of that annoying signal lag. The fatal flaw in this mouse is the wheel, which is horrible. It is almost impossible to middle-click without also tilt-clicking and vice versa. The wheel is also too small and doesn't provide good rolling or clicking action. It feels cheap and rickety. (and note I am very good at using input devices and don't have 'fat fingers') I expect much more than this for a premium-priced mouse from a top-tier company like Logitech. Instead of this mouse I would reccomend the Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse - even for non gaming applications - which can typically be had on-sale in this same price range. Overall it is far superior: the (similar clicky-or-smooth) wheel is bigger and scrolls, tilts and clicks perfectly ; the teflon feet are bigger and glide better ; the weights are adjustable; the laser is gaming-grade and thus the most accurate tracking one can get; it just feels to be of much higher quality than the M500. The main drawbacks of the G500 is that it is slightly bigger and the sides are made out of a coarse material which can be irritating, and the thumb buttons are not as big as those on the M500, although I find the G500's thumb buttons to be superior as they click and respond much 'tighter' and just feel to be of higher quality.

It is a laser mouse, no matter what the specs say

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Specifications listed here say the Logitech M500 is a "ball mouse" and has no optical technology. Wrong. This is, indeed, a laser mouse, and a very good one at that. So don't believe the specs as listed here. I almost canceled my order when I noticed that ball mouse/non laser stuff. Fortunately, I found the same mouse listed elsewhere with the correct specs, so I was able to go ahead and take advantage of the excellent price here at bestbuy. Not only would I recommend this mouse, I ordered another M500 for my wife. And she loves hers too.

Well we needed a new mouse since I would rather have a wired than a wireless, So I personally went in the best buy store and tested every single mouse in my hands and this one felt most comfortable. I love the page buttons on the side. I hardly ever accidentally press them. This mouse is very responsive, it hardly ever has problems.

I bought this as a backup to my Logitech MX Revolution (wireless) because the MX sometimes loses the connection to the PC. They both use the same Logitech software, but the MX will let you use the buttons as anything you want. I like to set them to zoom. The M500 has a limited set of choices you are stuck with.
