Worst Cameras on the Market. Best Buy is a joke!

These cameras are a total joke. They somewhat worked for about two weeks. They have been nothing but trouble ever since. Lorex tech support is abysmal. The return policy from Best Buy is criminal. Do not waste your money on these pieces of garbage.

Decent hardware, poor s/w and support

First, the good. The hardware is solid - for my purposes anyway. Sure, the picture isn't quite as good/clear as some of the systems that offer 2K (or better) recording or other features, but for what I do, it works. The system does a good job of detecting motion and haven't had much lag with recording after detection. The cameras seem to have decent wireless range, though getting the camera antenna pointing the right way can be tricky, especially since the Cirrus app doesn't allow users to flip the image, so you can't mount the camera upside down to get the antenna pointing in the optimal position, if you need to. The NVR was easy to setup and I replaced the included 16GB micro-sd card with a 256GB card without issue. I had heard of folks having issues with remote connectivity, but I was able to view my videos remotely without issue and without opening up ports on my router. While monitoring network traffic, I haven't seen my videos going anywhere other than where I was trying to view it. Battery life has been good and replacing batteries is easily done without having to take the camera down. You can connect to the NVR using a few methods. Summaries for those I have tested are below. Using your web browser and connecting to the NVR - Works, but forces you to install a plug-in that only supports Internet Explorer 8+, FireFox 51 (2017) and below, and Google Chrome 44 (2015) and below. Assuming you have an old enough web browser, this works. I asked support if there were plans to update the plug-in for modern web browsers and support recommended I use the Lorex Client 13 app. Lorex Client 13 - Windows/Mac. Tested Windows version only, and basic functionality worked ok. Android/iOS clients - You use the Lorex Cirrus app to setup and access this system. Basic setup wasn't too painful and was able to get a camera renamed and running pretty quickly. I did run into a variety of issues, most of which were escalated and remain unresolved. - My system came with 4 cameras and has the ability to support up to 8. The app knows about the 4 that came with the system, and there is no way to remove any that you're not using. So, if I want to view the playback for one, you have to uncheck the rest (every single time) or have a bunch of black squares on the screen you're not using. Not a deal-breaker, but annoying. - Unable to flip image - Standard feature in many camera (and even Lorex apps), but missing from this one. - The Alexa skill for Cirrus doesn't ask for the Alexa account to link to. I've tried numerous times with no success. Judging by the review of the skill, I'm not alone. - When you swipe away a notification from the app, the notification isn't saved in the notification tab so it's hard to find again later. Only those notifications that are clicked on make their way to the notification tab for easy viewing. Escalated and was told "...this is the way the app was designed. We are sorry." It's annoying, but at least you can still see the video under Playback, unless you have "person detection" enabled. - Person Detection - This was probably my biggest issue. Not only with the software, but highlights how support works. These cameras have the capability to do "Person Detection" rather than typical motion detection, which is nice to reduce false positives. In-use, I have found that if you do not acknowledge a "Person Detection" notification (but rather swipe them away), it is virtually impossible to view the playback from that event. It is simply missing from playback on both mobile apps and in the PC app. I've been going back and forth with support on this for well over a month and have not been able to even get a bug report filed with engineering. After spending 45 minutes on a call with support one day a while back, they claimed they would be ready to escalate the issue, after I performed a factory reset. Fast forward a few days, I notified support that the reset was performed and the issue persisted. About a week later, I get a call asking me to re-apply the latest firmware again before they escalate - done. About a week after that, I get another call saying they want to do another remote session to verify the configuration again before they can escalate. At this point, I have had it. Based on my experiences, it seems to me that their only goal is to bug folks into submission and hope they eventually give up, rather than trying to make their product better. Mission accomplished, Lorex.

    Don't buy this system!

Do not buy this camera system. These cameras continually go offline. They must be repaired with the base unit each time which is a pain because the cameras are mounted under the eaves of my house. After two years the batteries no longer will charge. Lorex customer service is terrible. They would not replace the batteries. The said my only option is to buy new batteries. Save your money. Don't buy this system!
