I love this system, great pictures quality love the local storage. The phone app works great easy to setup alert zones. Took a little research but it is able to have an intercom feature on chanel one( not included and hard to find a 12v powered outdoor speaker and mic). This unit is unique to Best Buy with the camera has a wider view than the standard version of this camera ( I added a few bt the standard one has 87 degree angle compared to the 105 degree these have)Iset mine up in my attic due to all the connections, easy to use OP. Replaying video is easy on app or system. The only negative I would say is the short cable attached to the camera, the connection isn't weather proof so it is limiting on placement unless you go to lorex website they make a backing plate you can use pvc pipe on it.

Love it nothing better then knowing I shut the garage after I left to work. I get two blocks and can’t remember if I shut the garage door. Now I just check it at a red light. Then it tells me when people are walking by the house. Have you ever wondered what happens at your house when your at work. I get notifications when people come up to my house . The the app you can see were it tells you how many alerts happened. You can play them without having to watch the hole day of video.

I bought these after having issues with the night owl 4k version that had 2 cameras go out within one week. They have the best picture clarity I have ever seen in a security camera. They have on the mobile app where you can turn the spotlight on and turn the siren on. Very easy to operate and install and the mobile app is amazing. It streams in 1080p for quick loading or you can click the 4k and they come in crystal clear on the app and take just a bit longer to load. Best cameras on the market for home surveillance. Very great customer service also with any issues. Everytime you log into the app it also takes a screenshot of each cameras view at that moment. Love it!!!

The Lorex 8-Channel, 4-Camera Wired 4K surveillance system is a very high-quality system with great video and is easy to configure using the Lorex Home App. My biggest grip is having to wire this up, but to be honest, that is the best way to do things in the long run. You don’t have to worry about batteries dying and you can mount these in places that you only have to get to once. The 4k video quality is overkill for my needs, but I did test it out and it does look good on my 4k TV. I don’t believe the HDMI cable that is included is a 4k cable though, at least it doesn’t appear to be, I used a cable that I already had wired in my walls for my TV. Setting up the system is easy using the included instructions. At first, I felt a little overwhelmed by the amount of cables and connectors that are included, but you just need to follow the steps and you will have it set up in no time. Minus the time it takes to run the cables of course, but you should hook up each camera and set things up BEFORE you install them, just incase you have a faulty camera or wiring. After you get the cameras hooked up, you can run through the set up of configuring the device to your home network. You can name your cameras, customize your recording options (motion areas, schedule) and customize your smart motion detection settings. The system can recognize vehicles and people. I have some high traffic areas and I was getting a lot of push alerts on my phone, so I had to play with the settings more to cut down the motion detection areas. These cameras also have built in sirens and spotlights on them. The sirens are not very loud, and the lights are not very bright, but it would let someone know that you are watching them if you spot them on the video feed, this is what Lorex calls Active Deterrence. There is a smart search feature that you can filter out the motion events. The filter allows you to search by date and time, person or vehicle, and area. I found it to work well as I tested it out. They claim up to 35 days of storage but with certain criteria for that. I don’t think it will record 35 days at 24/7 though. Overall this is a very robust system with a log of features and advantages over a cloud-based system. The only downside to me is the fact that you must wire it up, but you only must do that once and then you never have to touch the cameras again. That being said, the fact that you can expand this with 4 more cameras later on down the road and it’s two-year warranty makes this a great deal. Pros: Nice install experience on Device and phone App Expandable up to 8 cameras No monthly fees You control your videos Remote access to the cameras Video quality 2 year warranty Cons: Wiring the cameras

Firstly, unboxing this system was a joy, it came very nicely packaged and got me excited to open and install once the seal was broke. The color of the unit (white) seemed to be brighter than I was expecting too which really made it pop on my shelving in my home. This system includes 4 cameras which are to be hardwired throughout the home. When recently looking for a security system it was difficult to decide whether to go wireless or hardwired, but due to latency and the occasional wifi dropping in my homer I decided to pursue the hardwired approach. The one small thing I would change for this system would be the initial set up as it felt a little dated, though very easy to handle. The entire process to hook the wires up and run through the configuration probably took 15-20 minutes. Going with a wired camera there was less hassle with needing to replace batteries as there was a direct power source to each camera. One feature that I would beneficial was that the power data feed all ran together and connected to one outlet which expedited the set up process. Picture quality was decent showing me several different angles of the house with no delays in activity. The configuration of the cameras and the DVR was easy understand and initiate too. I didn’t even realize there was an alarm on the camera until I set it off. This was a neat feature that I overlooked yet will find useful! All in all, I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a quality wired security system. Having wired has given me peace of mind due to my home wifi issues and aside from a semi-date software set process this unit is one that will easily be able to be set up in no time

    Poor DVR - No Disk

Worked fine for 32 days (17 days past its best buy replacement time). Then disk stopped recording (only live viewing). Worked with Lorex support to get it fixed and they sent out another dvr (10 days later). Connected new dvr and still reads 'No Disk'. I really wanted to like this unit, but I can't play this game again. Glad I purchased the extended warranty, so i'll be returning it to best buy. Only issue is that best buy is limited in their wired surveillance systems. So might get stuck with a store credit, smh. Let me also add 10 days after using I had to call support about the mobile app stopped working. In which the resolution was to factory set it (smh yea that was fun after customizing everything)

Great system with 1 caveat. I will get to that in my write up. So first and foremost this would be the 5th DVR system I have owned and installed. My 2nd Lorex DVR system. First thing first prior to installation make sure you lay this on a table near your router so you can wire everything in one spot prior to installation. Hook up all the cameras and make sure they all work and set all of your functions prior to doing anything. From there you need to run wires. This system used BNC Siamese cables. Depending on the type of house or facility your are running these cables it can take days to do so if you don't want to be in your hot Attic space or army crawl in the crawl space I would highly recommend that you hire someone to do the running of cables. Remote phone setup is easy. I am using Android and it was simple and flawless. Reviewing motion, alarms, etc, was easy and quick. The software is user friendly. Cameras are nice looking and have alarm and light functions that are easy to use. Night vision is really good. Night color with limited lit is really nice. This aperture angle is really wide compared to other competitors. The 4k quality footage is really clear. All right here is the not so good news. If it was not for this I would give this system 5 stars. The Google home function does not work. I initially thought but was my LG OLED tv that was the issue. So I bought an 4k Ultra Chromecast to eliminate my TV from the equation. Google Home sees the cameras and I am able to touch it on the screen to pull up the live view, BUT when I ask Google Assistant to stream it to the Chromecast it says my camera is not set up. Here is the additional frustrating part. I called technical support and went through all the process with an support person for over 1 hour and at the very end they end up telling me that the system is not compatible with Google Home.... There's the rub. Also I reached out to lorex via email and no one responded. Maybe because of the Covid-19 issue so oh well. Other than that this system is more superior than another major competitor that I have used in the past and I am really happy with this system. I would highly recommend this product. Like I said, I would give it 5 stars if Google home worked, but it doesn't.

Nice Video Security System, Great Video Quality

I'm going to open with saying I really like this video system. I currently have a Samsung 1080p video system with 1 TB HD and 8 cameras. While I really like that system, I can say that I honestly prefer the Lorex. The Samsung is good but the Lorex has some clear advantages. Let's look at the reasons why. OK, there are the obvious reasons: 2 TB compared to 1 TB, 4K compared to 1080i, 2020 tech compared to 2018 tech. But while these all play a role, I think the main reason is the interface. I'll talk more about that later, but first... What's in the box? 4 cameras (with basic mounting hardware), 4 40' cables, main control unit, power chord for control unit, power for 4 cameras, wired rudimentary mouse and an HDMI cable. Assume that cables are already ran or if not, depending on your installation environment, it could take a couple hours to a couple days. But once cables and cameras are installed, set up is completed in 8 or so minutes. Usual suspects regarding questions, network setup was also simple. Scan a QR code after downloading the app and you're up and running. The picture quality was pretty impressive, but to be fair, my existing 1080 system is on an HD 24" Dell monitor, and I used the 55" Hisense H8F in my garage for this system, so not at all an apples to apples visual comparison. That said, there is no getting around the overall video quality in day lighting. And at night, this one really out-shines my other system. We did do some night testing and in a dark, semi-rural cul-de-sac walking about 40' from the camera, you could easily make a police ID, no problem. As mentioned earlier, the system interface is outstanding, easy to use and intuitive. You can use the mouse wheel to easily zoom in and out. A simple click and you can get to main view showing all 8 channels or just as easily get to the main menu. I am going to be using this as my main system for that reason alone. I did not test any motion detection or activation so I will not comment further than to say that based on the rest of the system, I have no doubt it would work as well as most any others. If you have read this far, you may be asking why I gave it a 4-star instead if a 5. A couple reasons. First, I don't give out too many 5-star ratings. Something needs to be almost impeccably flawless for 5 stars. Secondly (and primarily), the video cable connections on the rear panel are painfully close together. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to connect each additional camera after the first one is connected. It also is not labeled particularly well. Even for my 18-year-old son's eagle eyes and nimble skinny fingers, seeing the camera numbers and connecting the rear cameras was not as easy as it could have been had those 2 items been even minorly improved. However, at the end of the day, I would eagerly recommend this to a friend, but would note the minor areas for improvement. Good system, good price. Well done, Lorex. **PLEASE NOTE** This product was provided to me at no cost in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This review is exactly that: Honest and unbiased. The price played no role in the tone or honesty of this review.

    Excellent Security System

This Lorex security kit includes four 4K cameras, an eight channel DVR (so you can add four additional cameras later), a 2TB hard drive, and all the cables and mounting hardware needed to establish a video monitoring system. The four cables that provide power to the cameras and transmit the video images to the DVR are each 60 ft. long. The 4K Ultra HD Active Deterrence Security Cameras are very impressive, but they are large (see pictures below). The images are bright and extremely clear. They are advertised as having color night vision - and their ability to capture clear color images in low light situations is surprisingly good (many security cameras begin to capture in infrared in much brighters environments). Each camera has a 105° field of view. The DVR has an easy to navigate interface (a small USB mouse is included). I have my DVR connected directly to a monitor through HDMI (that cable was also included) and I do not intend to have my devices networked - there is an impressive-looking app (Lorex Home) that you can use to monitor your video feed remotely and to receive alerts when the DVR identifies people or vehicles in the field of view. Active Deterrence here is the ability to initiate a light or siren on the camera as a deterrent to an intruder - but in this system, that capability is not motion activated and must be actively engaged by the owner through the DVR or the Lorex Home app. The light isn't particularly bright and the siren is not particularly piercing but they surely will alert a potential intruder that they are being recorded. Most notable here is that the remote access application is not a subscription service so if you intend to monitor your cameras remotely, there is no service fees or cloud fees - your information is stored locally in the DVR and the application is just a way to control the DVR remotely. My single complaint is that the cooling fan in the DVR is loud enough to be annoying if you're in the same room as the DVR. This is a phenomenal setup!

This whole system is garbage, the image quality is garbage. I have a cheaper camera that has 10x better image quality than this product. Night vision is garbage it's advertise to reach 150ft and i cannot see my face at 6 feet away from the camera. It does NOT records sound. The installation process is just a a mess to install. The DVR is really hard to operate, seems like it was designed in the early 90's. I wasted all my day with this garbage just to be very disappointed.

I bought this system on sale to replace an older system on our home. We were contacted by Law Enforcement in December 2019 about obtaining footage from our existing cameras for "suspicious activity" that occured at a neighbors house. With our footage of the street in front of house and time stamp, along with footprints in the snow, the Cops were able to identify the suspects. However, the old system didn't have that great of resolution, maybe 1080p at best. It was difficult to read license plates and have a really good look at a face unless they were very close to camera. We decided to upgrade and after much research, we ended up with this one. For starters, Lorex is one of the few that give a temp rating that is acceptable for our climate. These are rated at -40 Farenheight. Sadly, sometimes we get colder than that, but that is a major concern and a selling point for us. Our cameras would sometime get "glitchy" on really cold days. Second, these cameras use the same BNC duplex cable that was already pulled through out the house. I would have liked to have gotton the NVR 4k POE system, but I didn't feeling like crawling in the attic pulling Cat5 and terminating new cable by the cameras in subzero temps outside. With that being said, I have a few existing cables that might be a little sub par compared to what Lorex sent in the box. 2 cameras have a few "ghost lines" that come and go. To the best of my memory, the old system had the same locations do that as well. I read some other reviews of this system where they had trouble until replacing the cables with Lorex, then no issues. Third, bang for the buck, these on sale were hands down the best value from a well known name brand company. There are others that may be comparable, but who knows what the customer service is like if needed. Even if only a true 2k resolution (they do cliam 4k) this sytem is a significant upgrade compared to what we had. This is likely the best resolution you're going to find anywhere for a system with a BNC connection. We've had the sytem up and running for a little over 2 months in Minnesota winter, and so far so good. No weather related issues, subzero temps have no effect of camera performance. The app works great on my iPhone, I havn't downloaded the desktop version, but i would anticipate it's just as good. I really like the user friendly playback options on my phone. You can see "events" and scroll to them. The system is fairly easy to set up and adjust with the DVR, you can block out any view of the neighbors house (these have a very wide field of view). On top of that you can adjsut each cameras motion sensing "zone" and sensitivity. The night vision is excellent. Resolution is fantatsic for a sytem in this price range. Camera installation and adjustment was easy. I would buy this setup again, highly recommend!!

We always wanted Surveillance cameras for our house but we were waiting for the price to go down. When We saw these cameras on sale we went ahead and bought them and I'm glad we did. The Cameras are beautiful and the picture is amazing and 4K, We love the fact that we can bring up on our cell phone and get alerts for motion also on R cellphone while we are at work. I have one camera in the house to monitor my dogs and I have a peace of mind that they're not wrecking the house while we are gone. Install was a snap we bought extra cables to run them under the eaves outside the house and we had to drill a 1" round hole into the wall and run all 8 cables in the side to hook up to the hard drive. That process was so simple and I also bought a 40" television to use in my office to monitor the cameras. Thank you Lorex for such a great camera system and high quality as it is.
