I have navigation on my smartphone, however run into issues with consistent coverage when traveling so needed a backup GPS device. I explained my needs to the Sales Clerk, which were quite basic, and he directed me to the Magellan because of durability, ease of use and value for the price. I didn't need lots of bells and whistles, just to get me around an unfamiliar town. After using this on a few trips I have to say I feel like I got more value than the price I paid. it has several features of the more expensive brands/models.

We were looking for a cheaper GPS. We do not need all the bells and whistles. Just a simple device to get us from point A to point B. The Magellan Roadmate 2230T-LM went on sale, and for way under $100 we purchased this terrific GPS. Auto map update, and easy to read and hear. Easy to manipulate, nd more. Could not be happier! I love my Droid Razr and the built-in Google Navigator, but if I get a phone call, the phone stops navigating and you can miss a turn, and you certainly cannot use apps like Pandora while using Navigator. Thus, I decided to purchase a dedicated GPS. The Magellan RoadMate 2230T-LM with its 4.3" screen and lifetime map updates fills the bill nicely. I never have to pay for updated maps like with my original Magellan GPS and, with the included power adapter, that has electronics to receive road and traffic conditions (even red light cameras!), I am prepared for the road and can now use my Razr for phone calls or playing music on long trips without worrying about missing a turn. The Roadmate does have its little quirks, i.e. that female announcer can get quite annoying announcing the upcoming turn several times before reaching it, and sometimes makes the announcement too close to the turn, but overall it works very well. The screen can be difficult to see if the sun is shining directly on it. In those situations, you have to rely just on the voice, but you should be watching the road, not the screen, anyway. :) Overall, I am very satisfied with the device.

This is a good GPS for the novice. Program is easy and it works as advertised. I will buy my next GPS from Magellan.

Very pleased with this product. First time use for a GPS and no problem following the directions. Never got lost! More than enough time to follow the directions.

my first gps so cant compare to other, we used it for a family vacation to Minnesota to see her family, and it was great, but when you pick the fastest trip it might take you down town which is not always the fastest , it does not figure in red lights or heavy traffic or construction at least not on this model, there are other features on here that we have not used yet but over all it was very helpful on our trip and plan on using it a lot more in the future.

It tells you about turns coming up more than once and then gives an distinct audible signal just before your left turn, right turn or merge. The tones are logical so even if you miss the words you hear the ding-dong, dong-ding or ding-ding. Very cool. If you are walking or on a bicycle the battery has a good life. My first Magellan. A great choice and good value. I almost paid more for the voice command function but felt I could do with out that. I pull over, put in the info and go. If you talk to it you'll be looking at it to see if it understood you -- not safe.

This GPS unit was purchased for our daughter as a christmas gift. She loves it and she has a much easier time with getting from place to place.

Easy to use,A little slow when adjusting to new directions

So far so good, used for a couple of small trips, I like the ability to load addresses on the computer before a trip and the lifetime map upgrade

This is a great product for finding directions no matter your ability. Sometimes, it doesn't do a shortcut when there maybe one available.

This is my second Magellan GPS to own. I have Roadmate 1340 3.5" which I liked a lot except for its small screen. RoadMate 2230T-LM 4.3" GPS has a more comfortable screen size and the touch screen is also more responsive.

compared to the other 2 brands it is the most reasonable in price and has updates

I traveled from Texas to Ohio and the GPS worked great. The dispalying of on and off ramps was especially usefull when reaching large intersections.

I have no difficult using it an great for traveling. Also it is very easy to use and I have no problems with it

Overall its an excellent product. I have not had any issue with it since i purchased it. It loads all maps and boot up faster than most GPS i know. Would recommend it ant day.
