Overall Good - with some caveats

Actually the sound quality is good, yet when recording a voicemail it's very choppy on the recording - still can't figure that one out even with customer service. I'll keep working on that part. Overall, I am happy with it so far. One big con was that I didn't know you couldn't call conference line #'s, which is totally stupid. Trying to figure another alternative for that.

    Don't count on reliability,,,

I primarily use MagicJack for fax service and for that it's been great. Initial setup was somewhat convolutes and you are going to be charged additional fee if you want incoming and outgoing calls features and this is completely mislead in the set up. I would suggest people to call the support service toll free number to have them go through the setup to avoid paying the additional fee. Also, I discovered that I experience a great deal of downtime though I have yet to formally reach out to my Internet provider or MagicJack but I can say that I have not experienced down periods in streaming my Netflix or Prime series so what does that say. I think 3 star rating is justified only because of that. If I were to spend that time my overall review would likely be lower.

Used this to replace my landline and save $20/month. Works great and much cheaper. Considering the $40 price and $6/year 911 fee that adds up to ~$4/month. Great savings and voice quality on par with my old landline

Why I RETURNED Majic Jack ?

I had MajicJack 15-yrs ago. It worked well but I bought this new to REPLACE my Land Line Home Phone but I had to RETURN it because the problems of installing with PORTING my Home-Phone number AND ZERO help/assistance from Magic Jack Tech-Support ... non-exist ! The Customer-Care number suggests to have Chat with Tech-Support but there is no way to have the Chat with anyone. Majic Jack corporation should establish a real Tech Support group.

Least expensive alternative to phone plans

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Magicjack is a cheap alternative to remove the Phone Plan from cable companies, but has limitations. Caller ID is used to display the telephone number of the person calling you and is included free with magicJack service. Caller Name ID which is used to display the name of the person calling you is not currently a supported feature. Requires prior activation, and isn’t free. Payment of the magicJack 911 billing is not mandatory, however. If you elect not to pay the fee, magicJack will simply turn off your 911 service. You are responsible for providing an uninterruptible backup power supply to ensure continued operation of electrical equipment, including customer premises equipment necessary to provide Internet service, in the event of a power outage. You need a Belkin RG BATTERY BACKUP REVISION B 12V DC UPS BU3DC001-12V to power the router.
