In my opinion it is a great game. I think that it is very challenging and hard to pitch but i like the challenge. I think for the most part the graphics are outstanding the only thing is some off the players faces are not to good tho. I have a ton of fun playing the game. The improvement from last is unreal last I thought the game was quite poor but this year it pretty good. I love the new way that you steal on that game its very realistic along with the rest of the game. The only things i don't like about the game is its somewhat glitchy like when you call a mound visit the couch like glides out of the dugout. And the other thing is there are to many errors these guys a pros off course they make errors but not easy ones like on the game and as many as the make on the game. If you like baseball and only had a 360 i would no doubt buy this game!!!

The game truelly looks like a real baseball game. The differrent camera angles and such are super realistics. Pitching with the right stick gives lots of control. Managing your pitchers and batting lineups is realistic. The game is kind of hard to a beginner like me but that makes it more interesting. A few issues are the players will run threw each other. For instance, you hit a pop up to first, the first baseman will go gto catch it and you can run right through him. Also, unless I havent figuredit out yet, the fantasy draft in franchise mode is weird, (you can take who ever you want, all of the other teams don't pick until the end). All in all, the game is really fun, I would look past it's few glitches. Plus, it's cheap!

Great graphics, great offline, glitches online

There is good and bad about this game. The graphics are amazing. This game is way better then the two previous versions. Using the hit-stick and pitch-stick is much easier this time around whereas in the past it was just annoying. The offline dynasty is very fun and has a lot to offer. The online dynasty concept is amazing, but patches are needed to fix some of the glitches. With online, you must swing very early if you ever hope to make contact, often times before or just as the pitch releases from the hand of the pitcher. This is not the case with the offline game. With the first two games I played online, I constantly got the same message after a swing "Very Late swing" whereas I never got that offline. Also, it's annoying that if a ball is hit in the infield, even a perfect throw (where the throw is in the middle of the green meter), typically pulls the first baseman off the bag about twice a game. If the throw was int eh red or no where near the green, I could understand, but this happens way too much for what is supposed to be accurate throws. More than a couple of times I have noticed the outfielder be right underneath a pop-up, in the yellow circle, and doesn't even attempt to catch the pop-up. It just drops 2 inches away from teh guy, and the guy has his glove at his side. What is with that? Also very annoying: If you have a runner on second, regardless as to whether or not you are having them steal, they can VERY VERY VERY easily be picked off. Even if you shorten the lead with a very fast runner, they can be picked off easily. It is something as a batter you have no control over, and strongly favors the pitcher. This is an extremely annoying glitch. Runners at second can be picked off well over 50% of the time if done correctly. The gameplay is fun after you get past the glitches. I am hopeful 2k sports comes out with a patch for this game to fix at least a couple of the glitches. If it does, the online experience will improve greatly! The offline game is already pretty solid though.

My only problems with playing actual games are with fielding. Catching fly balls can be more difficult than it should be, and too many throws pull the first baseman off the bag. This wouldn't be so bad if it were easier to just step on the bag afterwords. My main problem is with franchise mode. The pitchers develop a lot faster than the hitters in the minors, and since performance affects how players develop, it creates a snowball effect. 90% of the minor leaguers hit below .200 and don't get good until they're in their mid 30's. The rookie of the year is always at least 34 freakin' years old. It's main redeaming quality is that it is the only baseball game out there, which is the only reason I would recommend it.

MLB 2k9 is slightly better than last years game in my opinion but i still am dissapointed in the efforts by 2k to make a enjoyable game for 360 owners. Back in the days of MVP i spent many hours enjoying baseball but since 2005 I have not greatly enjoyed a baseball game. online play can still be fun. Not to much lag. Franchise play is as boring as ever. I guess i reccomend it to 360 owners only......because we have no choice!

In regards to the person who gave this game all 1 stars, you sir are not too smart. The graphics are terrific. If you want to have more of a challenge, move up from the pro level that you undoubtedly started with. If you move up a level, you will notice it gets much harder to keep a pitch in the strike zone. Plus, on just the pro level, getting a strikeout means you have to mix it up. This game is too smart to swing and miss if you keep all your pitches in the strike zone. Great baseball VIDEO GAME. Remember, its supposed to be realistic and fun.

I have to say about this years 2K9 is. They def bumped up the graphics they are really great. The one thing i cant stand about the game is why every game i paly in my franchise the outfielder always misses a ball that really agravates me . Plus another thing is the PITCHING!!!!!!!! it is so hard to figure out you cant go one ininng without giving up a run. Once you get the hang of it it is a fun game though. would recommend to a video game baseball fan but not to a fairweather fan!

i read about 20 reviews on this game and most of them said it was horrible. i decided to try it for myself. they say its laggy, no fun, has bad graphics. nothing like that was any problem to me, the game feels and looks great. to me it was a great baseball game. dont listen to people saying its horrible, just try renting it first and if you like it then buy, but its really a good game. although i will say if you have a ps3 buy mlb 09 the show on scale of 1 to 10 its a 11

BIG TIME IMPROVEMENT FROM LAST YEAR!

I just picked this game up yesterday, and I had to force myself to stop playing after playing a handfull of exhibition games and starting a season. This game blows last years game (which was TERRIBLE) out of the water. The players look much more lifelike and the game seems to be more fluent. The Swing Stick seems to be easier to use than it was last year, but I am still not a fan of the Total Control pitching using the analog stick. I changed the settings back to the old-style press a button for a certain pitch, and I find that much easier to control. The fans don't all look the same like years past, and they actually scrap for foul balls and home runs like real fans would. This is the best baseball game since MVP 2005 (last year of EA Sports baseball games). I wish EA still made baseball games, but this is the best there is out right now. Go buy it, you will not be disappointed.

    Fantastic game for baseball fans!

Overall I really enjoy this game! It was fantastic to turn the game on and have Griffey already on the Mariners, even though he was acquired less than a month before. Nomar has already gone to the Atheltics on the game, Manny to the Dodgers, etc..etc... By far the best feature ever. I hope that future sports games (hint, hint EA) include this feature. Nothing worse than playing with dated rosters. Things that would be nice to fix/update: The "Classics" teams are okay, but where are the big name HOF'ers? I would love to see the likes of The Babe, The MIck, The Yankee Clipper, Roger Maris, etc... Can you tell I'm a Yankee? Though it was nice to see Phil Rizzuto, Yogi Berra, Ted Williams, Nolan Ryan, and other HOF'ers. There also seem to be occasions where players mysteriously "drop" balls and then pick them up and can't throw them, while runners are advancing the bases. Truly annoying. Overall, definitely worth the money if you are a true baseball fan. For those of you that game, just to game, it probably won't be as great for you.

    Overall disappointment

To begin, the game's main menu and sub menu's have been changed around and ithey're very frustrating to control. 2k Sports should've have stuck with the old style on that! The player designs are worse than they were on 2k8, and a lot of little details are missing or changed, for example, players can't wear earrings, they took away a lot of details from the uniform, you can't customize the player's fielding mitt the way you want and they look almost "fake" in a way, if you look close at the players... they're eyes look like zombie eyes, the sunglasses look silly, etc. To continue, the gameplay is poor! Fileding is horrible and the fielding camera is horrible too! However, you can customize your batting and pitching camera's to almost any view, which is really cool! Getting, back to fielding, your outfielders appear so small that you can't tell where they're headed, nor can you tell where the ball is landing! And the outfielders run SO SLOW in the game so you have to adjust them manually if you want to. The throwing mechanics seem to be improved, as well as the pitching mechanics. The "Total Control" pitching had improved ALOT! It's easier and more effective! But the "Classic" control is HORRIBLE for those, including myself, who prefer classic pitching. Swing Stick and Classic Batting is fine! Great improvment on Swing Stick actually! OH I FORGOT! They took out Exhibition mode for a quick game! Now you have to go tho "Play Balll" and you can't customize the opposing teams' lineup or pitcher! That was disappointing! Overall, I was very disappointed with this game. I'm ready to give up on 2k sports! Give the contract back to EA Sports already! They knew how to make baseball video games. 2K10 also better include: Spring training and 40 man rosters in Franchise mode, player models like they were in 2k7 or 2k8, more ballparks like in 2k8, 2k7 graphics and 2k8 gameplay, and for goodness sake if a team has an Alternate jersey on, put the correct home or away pants with it! Seriously! Bring back the 2k8 customazation features plus MORE for 2k10! If you have MLB 2k7 or 2k8, just stick with those! They're the best ones! Im still deciding if I like this one better or MLB 2K6 better, if that says anything to you!

What is great about this product is that it has great graphics and great quality. It is very easy understand and play at the same time i would recomend this game to everybody. What i did not like about the game is that it seemed that all the players ran the same speed. Other then that this game is great for kids and all ages really.

    Don't Do it

I came on here and read some reviews before I bought the game, and thought "can't be that bad". well, unfortunately it is. It looks like all the development went into the graphics and everything else got left behind. even adjusting difficulty sliders on most game play options didn't really help with my troubles. What bothers me most is the pitching. Now, I have been playing baseball games for a while, and yes sometimes it just takes a little while to get used to new controls etc, but I have now fought myself through 3 entire games, and I have literally not gone one single inning without giving up a run....as a matter of fact there were only about 3 innings total, in which I did not at least give up 1 homerun. The pitching (ESPECIALLY the classic mode) is confusing, inconsistent, and there are no instructions, either in the game, or even the instruction booklet. Do I simply hold down the button until the pitch is thrown, do I hold it, then tap it again when circle is biggest/smallest or both? Well the game pretty much leaves you on your own to figure it out, and the 2K web-site is no help in that department either. VERY FRUSTRATING. The hitting is not too bad, though I think it worked out better in last year’s game. Anyway, this is a very disappointed Baseball and video game fan, telling you not to waste your precious $60. I am going to see if I can sell it on craigslist and at least limit the damage.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR CASH ON THIS GAME

MLB 2k9 is easily the worst video game I have ever played. Despite the good graphics and realistic character animations (players diving in all kinds of ways), the game is awful. After about 3 weeks of playing this game, it started freezing randomly and I can not even save anymore. I know it is not me though, because my friend has the same game with the same problem. If this enormous problem does not bother you though, I am sure one of its many flaws will. Outfielders slow down when running to fly balls, It is very difficult to catch consistant line drives in the outfield, If you have never played a previous 2k9 baseball game, the pitching controls will be near impossible to learn, it does not say in the controls how to steal a base. It is physically impossible to hit a home run on the hardest skill level, and way too easy on the skill level down, when you create a player, you cannot change his batting stance or pitching windup, and Alexi Ramirez, shortstop for the Chicago White Sox, looks absolutley nothing like his picture. If none of these things bother you than I will fight you. That's no lie. NEVER BUY A 2K9 GAME. I would sell mine, but I do not want another soul to feel the horrible pain of playing this game as I have, so I will just burn mine.

    Great Game, Some Glitches

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This game is not bad, Xbox update fixed most issues with the game. The only problem is that running for a short fly ball or long fly ball the players sometimes slow down a little bit. This issue is not a game killer. Some issues with frame rate, but nothing to kill the enjoyment of the game. Pitching takes some getting use too, use the tutorial to understand how to pitch, it's very easy and fun actually. The game play is rather good, very good challenges and requires you to play a smart game and not just home run after home run. I suggest waiting for this game to drop in price and then purchase, but it is worth a buy. If your still having doubts, rent the game first, then purchase if your good with it.

    one big letdown

Being a baseball fan and only owning a 360 this game makes me want to buy a PS3 to play The Show. The MLB 2K series continues to disappoint for baseball fans. I don't understand how 2K can be so good at NBA games and so bad at MLB games. The game is so close to being great yet they refuse to fix/patch the issues that would make this game awesome. Also the second patch made it too hard to hit HRs in offline mode. Franchise mode is almost unplayable. Too many injuries (there's no injury slider this year, just on/off). Soriano went out with a metatarsal fracture for sliding into a base and Ramirez had a separated shoulder from lightly brushing agaist the dugout on a foul ball. Players don't gain stamina on offdays, no more depth chart for simming through some games, issues with players getting stuck on DL. I could go on with more. Finally took out jerseys flapping in the wind but added dumb-looking dust clouds running through the infield. Few positives are game presentation, new franchise menus like NBA 2K9, and not listening to Joe Morgan anymore.

This game is great. All those people who say the graphics are bad are wrong. They dont know what graphics are. This game is more realistic than any baseball game yet. All the complainers that say its too hard to bat and pitch, you can change the settings to make it easier. Or you can make it harder if it gets too easy. And the camera angles, you can change that too. Its not hat hard. Just because the game gives you a little challenge doesnt mean you have to complain about it. This is another great game from 2k Sports. Its a must get for everyone.

This game is the best game. I have no idea why people are saying that the game sucks because you can't pitch or hit. It's hard at first but once you get the hang of it, its easy. The graphics are amazing. The stadiums are almost perfect for the real ones. Another neat feature is the the live updates. The players will always be updated so a bad player at first will become good if the player does good on the field. This is the best game and should be bought by any baseball fanatic.

Would have been great if not for the glitches.

This game is fun until the glitches ruin it. Nothing worse than being in the middle of a pitchers duel top of the 11th. The computer hits a routine groundball which is thrown to first and the runner is called safe because the firstbaseman stepped off the bag. No big deal right. The next guy gets a single two runners on and two outs. Still no a huge issue. Next guy hits a deep flyball my fielder is camped under it, end of inning right? NO!! He just stands there and lets it go over his head. Batter gets a triple and 2 RBIs. 2 runs which never should have scored anyway. This happens way too often. Takes the fun out of the game when you end up losing games due to glitches. I would wait to buy this until they announce a corrected version.
