A great upgrade to my existing system and the setup was very easy to follow. The sound quality of speakers is now reaching their full potential and the best thing was the HDMI inputs on the back of the receiver which were easy to access and ready to handle 3D and 4K! I have no complaints about this unit thus far and have owned it for 3 months so far.

Great receiver with plenty of power to drive your home theater system. The wifi or blue tooth could be a little easier to figure out though

I waited about a month to write this review because I had given the Sony STR DN1040 a really good rating and a week later the HDMI connection went bad AGAIN!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!! Now to what concerns you, The Marantz SR5008 Receiver. WOW!! This thing does have great power, but NOT 200 wpc like it says. All the Stereo companies are doing this now. They flat out lie about their power output. Now here is the difference between Marantz and the others, Marantz tells you the truth about actually giving you a real 7 channel Biampable Amplifier that actually gives you a true 100 wpc.to each of its 7 channels. Here is what the others do. They tell you that you are getting 90 wpc of actual power not exaggerated, with the front 2 speakers driven which is true, but with their amps they are only 2 channel amps and the power is divided between all 7 channels which actually gives you somewhere in the 30 wpc neighborhood. This is being done by a lot of companies and it is really sad that they do this to the consumer. So do you want a true 700 watts of power or do you want 180wpc?. The sound has warm lows with clean crisp highs that just fill the room with sound that you never tire of. Enough about the amplifier part. Now to the look and feel of this receiver. I love it. The Marantz has a totally different look than all others, It has rounded corners on the front, with a round info window. I really like the look, it is not like the neighbors on either side of you. It is different and looks more elegant . The dials feel firm and crisp and the chassis is built heavy and strong. Now to complain a little, No WiFi connectivity? REALLY? I do not like this at all, you must use a Ethernet cable. With that being said, you do have a lot of internet related options and I do like that. That is my only complaint. Yes the receiver is quite a bit more expensive than the competition but you do get every penny back in the quality and especially the true 7 channel amplifier. I love it

I spent a lot of time reading reviews by professionals and consumers, finally deciding to purchase this unit. I am very happy with this purchase. It replaces a 10 year old Harmon Kardon receiver. Wow what a difference! The HK was rated at around 45 watts per channel and this one is around 100 watts. Comparing power ratings can be mind boggling because everyone wants to rate there equipment at 100 watts, so they may be rated at 100 watts, but only driving 1 speaker. this Marantz is rated at 100 watts with all 7 channels driven.
I liked my old unit, but would no longer hook up to newer components. This one has an awesome number of inputs and Airplay. I really enjoy the Airplay feature and use it almost daily.
I haven't updated my TV yet, and the on screen display doesn't work unless it is hooked up with an HDMI cable. This is a little annoying since the display is very small on the face of the unit. Shouldn't be a big deal for most people.
Overall very pleased. Love shaking the dishes in the kitchen when the volume is at 65!

Great sound and Video

My 6 year old Onkyo TX-SR 606 had some HDMI switching problems so I needed a new reciever. After much research I decided to go with the Marantz SR 5008 and I'm glad I did. It was a little more money than I wanted to spend but in the end it was worth it. My old Polk R-50 speakers sound much better and I also noticed improved video quality on my 46 inch Samsung TV as well. This unit has good power and is fairly easy to set up and operate. Now of course I want new speakers so I can really get the full effect of this amps capabilities. My only complaint is that it does not have built in Wi-FI so if you want to use Apple Airplay you have to hard wire your PC through the ethernet connection. Or you can follow my advice and buy a Netgear WNCE 2001 ($49) plug it in and like magic you can connect wirelessly. Cool! Overall I think most people would be thrilled with this Amp.

Great Amp

I recently tried a Yahama receiver with my Martin Logan Electromotion ESL speakers and found the sound muddy, and features hard to setup and flakey. It sounded better in direct mode.
Then I got the Marantz- what a difference. Easy to setup, and all the default options make the sound quality great! My big pet peeve with technology is I think it should do most of the work for you. I mean, I love geeing and tweaking stuff ( and I read about and played with every setting on this amp, ) but in the end, it should already be setup pretty close to it optimal capability, or require minimum effort to get there. Once I ran the speaker setup, the only thing I had to set manually was to use my subwoofer in all modes. And wow! It really improves the sound of Video and Audio sources. It makes direct mode sound bad! Airplay setup was a breeze, and it connects with my TV using Anyconnect, so my TV controls the volume of the amp seamlessly. Choosing an Airplay source on my computer or iPhone switches the amp over to the audio source automatically. One this it does do that was odd to me at first, is it restricts the max volume on some sources. This is by design as it has determined that any louder will start to distort and degrade the quality of the audio. And for me, the max setting is perfect for movies! Loud full sound and bass rumbles the room.

This product was a breeze to set up with my JBL front speakers and JBL subwoofers. The video was crystal...for 3 days. Video went out. I took it back to BB. They replaced the unit and this product 's video went out in 3 hours. I mean, darn (family web site). At least this time I had video in the set up and tuner modes. The sound is so marvelous that I did a work around. I hooked all units (Verizon cable,blu-Ray, Apple TV and the receiver directly into my big TV and ran optical audio from TV to my receiver. Now I have great video while retaining fabulous sound. Still it's sad that the receiver does not work as it should. I mean for 900 bucks..REALLY! With that, said, I would not trade it for any other comparable brand.

Let me start off by saying quality. This is my first Marantz receiver as I have previously owned Sony and Onyko. After much research and audio testing I made the switch to Marantz and extremely glad I did. Easy setup, awesome sound quality with plenty of power for all my needs. The Marantz app works great now my whole family has control of the unit. If you looking for a quality product I highly recommend Marantz.

Swapped my Pioneer Elite 43 for this receiver. This one has more options for sound settings and of course more power. Audyssey is great, really takes a lot of the guess work out of it. What I found with the Audyssey is if you are only using two channels you want to turn the Dynamic EQ/volume settings to off, if using for home theater you want to have them on. This receiver is really great for multiple channel Home Theater setups.

I used to have Pioneer Receivers and was ready to make the jump. Glad I did! This Marantz has taken my home theater to the next level. Not only has my sound improved but also my video! I also like the sleek look of this receiver. The only small gripe I have is about the remote. When you spend about $1000 you would think it would be at least light up or be universal. With that being said, it isn't a deal breaker! Now that everything is set up I probably won't use the remote again!!

I was torn between buying a home Theater in a box."high End" or receiver.
I have a selection of very hi end speakers and wanted to use what I have.
I set this up in 15 minutes and it is so easy to use and the sound is fantastic. The display and mode switching are easy enough for my 9 year old.
