I will say I am no audiophile or tech head - however, I do a lot of gaming , listening to music and app use via the TV - and this unit is by far the easiest to set up and use! Not to mention it fits reasonably in my electronics cabinet. I had a older version of Harmon Kardon which back in the day was a great unit - this blows it away as far as sound athrough the same speakers the HK was pushing. My speakers are Cambridge sound works and can handle up to 120 watts p/channel ... this units 100 watts just blow you out of the house! Also some other awesome features - set up was breeze with there set walk through - plus it comes with a microphone and balances the EQ for all your speakers! The sound out of the box is excellent - then there is Airplay connection! Love it for my iMac Pro - iPhone I just open iTunes it wakes up the receiver from anywhere in the house and bam! Music! ... some other cool things Pandora and internet radio - both of which I have on multiple platforms but having on the main system is truly convenient! The not so good - if you read reviews you will see that this unit is known to have internet connection problems with Firmware for Marantz - dropping Airplay etc. First off Marantz customer support is pretty weak - there path of least resistance was to tell me to bring it back to Bestbuy when I was experiencing this problem myself - that was not correct! All was needed to live with this trouble free was a proper master shutdown and a hard ethernet connection - I got a 50ft cable and a switch and hooked up all my WiFi devices that I want a superior connection to - and that made the problem go away...which I have also experienced with Xbox 360 and ONE - and My Dish receiver as well... so other then this minor problem I am very happy with the Marantz NR1605

This is my first Marantz A/V receiver, and I love it so far. I've had it for almost two weeks now. I still own a Denon A/V receiver that I bought five years ago that cost approximately $1000 more than this receiver. (In case you didn't know, Marantz and Denon are owned by the same manufacturing company, D&M Holdings.) Due to my lack of attention to the dimensions of my new entertainment center when I ordered it, I quickly found out that I really needed a smaller A/V receiver than the massive Denon receiver that I already owned. Thus, when I saw that Marantz had made a line of "slim" A/V receivers, I was quite interested in buying one. Fortunately, I researched that they were releasing the NR1605 this July, so I opted to wait for it rather than to buy the older NR1604 right away. Initially, I was worried that I might be losing quality due to the price difference between my Denon receiver and this Marantz receiver; but then again, technology and manufacturing has improved a lot over the past five years... Thus, when I compared the basics such as power handling, etc., the two receivers were very comparable. The Marantz receiver, obviously being newer, has upgrades such as more HDMI inputs as well as 4K capabilities and built-in wireless and bluetooth. One thing I honestly never liked about my Denon receiver was that setup was very cumbersome in regard to assigning the HDMI inputs (and I consider myself pretty tech savvy). This Marantz receiver makes setup a breeze... I had my PS4, Wii, AppleTV, and cable box up and running in literally minutes. The online music function, which allows Apple AirPlay as well as access to internet radio such as Pandora, is also a very nice feature that I use quite frequently. In regard to performance, it sounds great for both movies and music. Although one other reviewer commented that it doesn't seem to have the same power per channel as larger receivers, I honestly can't tell a difference between this receiver and my larger, slightly more powerful Denon receiver. I have it hooked up to a Bowers & Wilkins 5.1 speaker setup (CM10 towers, CMC2 center channel, CM5 surrounds, and ASW10CM subwoofer). Of note, I have my front speakers bi-amped, so I have not tried the multi-zone function of this receiver and cannot comment on how well that works. I also have not tried setting up the iOS app on my iPhone yet, but based on the other reviewer as well as the app rating in the app store, it doesn't seem like it's worth much. However, in conclusion, if you're looking for a small, but powerful do-it-all A/V receiver, I highly recommend buying this receiver.

It was a definite easy hookup out of the box and the speaker calibration was my favorite part. Connecting B&W speakers to it creates a euphoric atmosphere in my living room. There are plenty of settings to adjust bass, each speaker and zones. HDMI ports are a plus. Airplay with album artwork is fantastic, wired or wireless connection.

The Marantz 700.1 really made a difference on the sound quality with my current wired home theatre speakers and subwoofer. Set up was easy with on screen instructions and I love all the features that come with the receiver for online music service. Also really love the slimmer compact design.

I just purchased this receiver from BB. My previous receivers have been Pioneer Elites and Marantz NR1402 Basic scoring Con - NO Phonograph Pre-Amp IN (Still need to use an External Phonograph Pre-Amp) Con - Not as powerful per speaker as full sized models. Con - Forced 6 point sound field setup - What if you don't have 6 different listening positions? Con - 25 minutes to download / install latest firmware Neutral - 6 point setup - the last 5 points are based off of the first point, and it states to be within X distance. What if you seating setup is different, and those positions are farther away? Neutral - IOS app works, but is very clunky to use. A for effort, D for interface design, C+ for usability Pro - Easy setup Pro - No Video degradation Pro - They have toned down the remote (not as many buttons) Pro - Eco Mode (saves power by turning of features your currently aren't using, like wireless and Bluetooth) Pro - Due to small design, allows for more airflow, keeping unit better cooled. Basic rundown on my experience. Unpacking, nothing out of the ordinary. (2 min) Included in box - remote, Quick Setup guide, Owners Manual - CD, Marantz NR1605, Power Cable, Remote, batteries, FM Antenna, AM Antenna, and Audyssey cardboard microphone stand w/ microphone Physical setup was fairly easy, unplugged cables, using banana clips, from old receiver, and plug straight into new receiver. (5 Minutes) Device Setup - 30 Minutes Go through the setup screens using the remote - straight foward First boot setup takes about 30 minutes to do. When you get to the Sound field test, You'll have to setup the Audyssey cardboard microphone stand to be ear level of people, at 6 different points. The first position (main) test also checks for Phase (polarity) and will tell you if you wired up a speaker backwards. Follow the onscreen instructions, its painless enough, just a bit lengthy to do. Then it goes to network setup (wired/wireless it will auto-detect) If wired - it finishes at this point (I didn't setup wireless) Once that was done, I used the Setup button on the remote, to navigate to Network Information to find the IP address of the Marantz. and put that IP Address into a web browser, and was presented with the Marantz built in web server. I renamed the the inputs to be more accurate as to what was plugged in, when switching sources. For video sources, i renamed to Comcast, PS3, XBox 360, Amazon TV, Apple TV, Mac Mini For audio sources, i renamed CD to Phonograph Used the Browser interface to sign into my Pandora account. Over all, i'm very happy with it.

Outstanding Receiver. Replaced an older unit that was badly outdated and having issues. Receiver was easy to set up and calibrate. I am running a 5.1 surround system and it has never sounded better since I followed the set up/Cal steps. Sold in the higher end section of Best Buy, but has been worth it, my Surround sound works much better and volume control is much better with up to date receiver.

We were looking for a modern receiver to hold us off until we buy a more significant component after all the 4K copyright protection issues sort out. This receiver fit our needs, as it has almost every available feature at lower price. We are running a 5.1 system (with powered sub) and this has sufficient power to play at reasonably high volumes. We did not need the slim line, but it was still the best option for us. Highly recommend, particularly if space is a constraint.

I had to replace my JVC receiver that was 20 years old. Went through 3 different receivers at Best Buy (tried the first 2 at home and returned them). This was a bit “pricey” for the wattage, but a very low profile and great sound with the features I wanted. This was the only receiver I found that you can program and troll the menu without a digital TV (once you learn the menu tree). Was not aware of that until I started to program it (with one of my computer monitors) and noticed the display was mimicking what was on the screen. Since I still have an analog TV, this was an important discovery … new TV next

I wanted to replace a receiver amplifier with a modern unit so I bought the Maranz even though it will not have a TV hooked to it. That makes is a little more difficult to operate. I hooked it to a TV for basic set up. I then hooked it to a 2 zone speaker system and use multi-zone singe station stereo settings. I wanted internet and blue tooth operations and got that in this unit. It took me about 3 days to actually understand how to run it after I downloaded the owners manual. Customer Service at Marrantz was easy to get hold of and very helpful with my inexperienced set up issues.

The Marantz NR 1605 receiver has all of the functionality and power you could want...I have it paired with Cambridge Audio MiniMinx 21 speakers (wife wanted small, white speakers as they were going on bookshelves on either side of fireplace) and a Niles 6.5" wireless subwoofer (wife wanted small and wireless). The system is connected to my Samsung 8500 series 4K TV (65"). I also have AppleTV and a Sony BlueRay/4K Upscaling DVD player (can't remember model # but was $150). The overall performance of this combination is outstanding and I can't really think of anything that would improve. The MiniMinx 21 speakers really pack a lot of punch for compact speakers...they did take @week of solid use to really start sounding "crisp" but now one month installed they are awesome. The Niles Sub has plenty of power to fill our room with deep-rich bass (family room is about 20ft x 25ft with peaked ceiling). I had the Geek Squad install the system and they did a great job -and quite frankly they were fun guys to have around at the same time (great attitude, joked around, etc...). The TV picture is amazing, so combined with the audio performance it is really something special.

This item far exceeds my expectations! With all the HDMI output possibilities there is only a need to have 1 HDMI cable run up through the wall. Everything else is handled by this bad boy. Recommend getting a Logitech Harmony remote to keep things neat.

I owned three different Marantzs in the past 6 weeks. I wanted to see if the 700 dollar one was any better than the 1000 dollar or the 1300 dollar (5009, 6009). For my use, the 700W was perfect and the others were just wasted money
