Customers are saying

Customers consistently note the Cinema 50's exceptional sound quality and ample power, making it a strong performer for both movies and music. The receiver is also praised for its user-friendly setup and attractive design. While some users experienced minor issues with bass levels and HDMI switching, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns.

    Marantz Cinema 50 FTW

I upgraded to the Cinema 50 after owning a Marantz NR1603 since it was released. I've always had B&W speakers and thought that what I had was enough since my room was on the smaller side. I decided to upgrade when I saw Marantz's 70th anniversary trade in program, and I decided on the Cinema 50. It was clear from the first 10 minutes that the Cinema 50 is a clear step up from what I had... not to mention the new design of Marantz products is really nice. The best way I can describe it is everything sounds bigger, even at low volumes. I don't consider myself an "audiophile", but I like audio and home theater gear. It looks nice and sounds great. While this isn't the cheapest option out there for what you get, in my opinion (and considering what i had before), I do think that there is definitely a noticeable sonic difference which translates to using it more often which is kind of the whole point, right?

This is my first Marantz product and I’m quite happy with my decision to finally upgrade the heart of my system. I’m able to run 7.4.2 with Klipsch reference and have flexibility to add another channel at some point. Sound is warm and enveloping, movies are robust yet crisp. Purchased in November and it took me a few weeks to dial it in and fully reach perfection, but it is spot on. After calibration, I did have to bump up the bass a bit, since Audyssey seems to set subs a touch too low. Highly recommend to everyone, including the serious audiophile.

The Cinema 50 is more than capable, offering every format from Dolby Atmos to Aural 3D. Dirac Live is coming sometime later this year and for an additional fee. Start diving into all that's possible with the Cinema 50 and you better be knowledgeable at minimum. I consider myself an audiophile, and it took me and a friend over 2 weeks to get The Cinema 50 set up and dialed in. The reward is powerful Sound that is full and rich. The new on screen menus are much improved. I don't think there's a better option out there for the money without going to separates.

This is a high quality receiver that is a little pricey but delivers smooth but crisp sound that is perfect for movies and music. The added power per channel is great for front towers and subs. It has all the bells and whistles you'll need and is capable for 8k. The set up is super easy and the Audessey pretty much nails the configuration. I did tweak my crossover settings manually as the audessey set my fronts to full range. I adjusted it to 80Hz to allow my subs to fill in the bass for a cleaner sound more to my taste. The full range setting made movies boom a little too much for my ears. The only problem I had was with the size of this receiver. The depth is slightly to long for my cabinet. I didn't check on this as I assumed it was the same length as my previous Marantz. Just make sure it will fit your space before you purchase.

Let me start by saying...WOW! I know this receiver is $2500 but I will say, it is worth it. I done a ton of research on 9.2 receivers to replace my Pioneer Elite LS303 and listened to a couple in the store and ultimately decided on the Cinema 50. Pros: Amazing sound quality that really made my speakers come to life. I rewatched several movies just to hear the difference in the sounds and special effects. It has all the bells and whistles like 4k/120hz for gaming and it looks great. It has 4 seperate subwoofer outputs so when doing room calibration it adjusts the level on each just like your other speakers. Audyssey room calibration worked really well. Most importantly, power! The Cinema 50 is rated much higher on wattage to the speakers but it is definitely more powerful. My Klipsch setup has never sounded like this. Cons: Price. At $2500 it is kind of expensive. The other thing is that you have to pay an extra $259-$349 for Dirac Live after buying the receiver if you want it. So far, I'm really happy with the Audyssey calibration and the way the system sounds. Maybe one day I'll want to upgrade to Dirac but for now I think I'll hold off. Overall: Amazing receiver and I feel like is worth the money if you want an awesome sounding home theater.

I bought this AVR to replace my old Denon S930H. I have a 5.1.4 setup. While I never thought the Denon was underpowered but Marantz is a big upgrade. Usage: 85% music and rest is movies played through Panasonic UB820. Music source is Amazon Music (lossless), some Pandora and YouTube. I was debating between Denon x3800H and this receiver, glad I chose Marantz. Music sounds better on Marantz. Pros: - Looks beautiful, side panels have a subtle design, and the white under glow on front panel looks premium with black body. - Plenty of power for music and movies, my 18’x15’ room is probably more than adequately served. - Remote is backlit and that’s a nice touch. - HEOS and Marantz apps work seamlessly, I use Amazon music and Pandora, have had no issues. - Soundstage in stereo mode has opened up tremendously compared to old Denon. My Focal Vestia Towers sound warm accompanied with floating notes. (Focals are a tad bright, Denon made them sound harsh at times). - Watched several movies, bass is deep, atmos speakers actually opened up portraying depth as well as awesome transitions from 4 Atmos speakers and 2 surrounds. - Binding posts are top notch. - Really like the speaker designated labels, I thought that was a nice touch. - Have not used Dirac but so far Audyseey has served me well. - The Marantz interface matches the current decade (old interface was dated). - I am eager to come home and listen to music, it is such a delight. - Even my Klipsch RP-150M bookshelves sounded way better compared to Denon. - I do not know the circuit related differences but this receiver sounded way better compared to several others during my auditioning for music or movies. I definitely think this is a top-shelf model and not middle or bottom shelf. You definitely get your moneys worth. - Plenty of Prepouts for future expansion. - I was hesitant to get this AVR when I read about HDMI issues but I have never had any issues. Seems to work adequately. Cons: - Need I say the price? Quality does come at a price. - Display on the receiver is tiny almost cannot read it from distance.

    A Nice Home Theater Receiver

Overall, I really enjoyed this receiver. Home theater and multi-channel audio was excellent. Audyssey did a great job on the speakers but all but eliminated my subwoofers volume (two) so I had to manually turn up the subwoofer volume after Audyssey did its thing. I have older Polk speakers (LSi15; 88db, 4ohm) which require some power and volume to light up and sounded nice on the pure direct mode but the receiver would shut down after a bit when turning the volume up for longer than 30 minutes. I did have some issues with the HDMI switching but wasn't sure if it was due to the cables that I was using (ordered new 8k "certified" cables to replace mono price 4k). Ultimately, I decided to return the unit and wait for the Cinema 40 to be released as it has more of a stout amplifier design and 5 year warranty. If the 40 does not serve my needs, I will go back to the 50 and add a couple of external mono block amps to my front channels.

I've setup my Cinema 50 5.1.4 in a 14' x 24" space and for Dolby Atmos movies and shows the sound is clean and beautiful. The most amazing part of the sound is the smooth presentation of very bassy sounds that include really low components and midrange sounds. Also, the placement of overhead and surround sounds is crystal clear. I wouldn't use this receiver in much larger room, I've found the sound adequate but not super loud. Overall, the setup was easy but I would have liked more information in the manual about HDMI parameters, perhaps examples of devices people are likely to use like an Apple TV input. I struggled with this a bit. I wish I could use the remote as a universal controller, especially to change channels on an Xfinity cablebox, but I don't think this is possible.

Couldn’t wait to open, it was like a kid on Christmas! The Demo room at North Rim doesn’t do it justice at all, its powering all my KEF speakers. I tied in my REL T7/X Sub and it all performs over my expectations, my neighbors actually came over to see what they had been listening to… I think they’ll be swinging by North Rim next! Hands down well worth the money for my Cinema 50 and speaker system! Don’t hesitate to buy yours too, go into the store and ask for a “Designer” for recommendations, you will not regret it!

I am very pleased with the new Cinema 50 from Marantz. I replaced a Pioneer Elite SC-65 due to the new audio, and visual formats that the new Marantz supports. The Marantz is paired with a Emotiva Basx A3+ amplifier so I can take advantage of a full 11.2 system into a 9.2.2. The soundstage is precise, the imaging for the various sound fields is great, and in stereo mode it rocks. I am usually a person that likes to buy the flagship models, but when comparing the 40, and the 30 against the 50, I could not see the separation and the benefit to do so. So if you are looking for a good all around A/V Receiver, then the Cinema 50 from Marantz is for you.

Great sound, but Heos has taken shortcuts in the new models. You can no longer shuffle music. This aside, it is a great AVR. A word of caution! If you are buying from a store with a Premium Design Center, you can only return it to the Design Center, if urchased in-store. They are on commission, and that make it harder to return an item. I recommend ordering online and picking it up at the store rather than having to deal with the Design Center. They try to sell you the more expensive equipment. I returned the AVR because of the Heos missing feature that I mentioned. It took three trips and a manager getting involved before I was able to return it.
