This unit a little hard to hook up to older systems. It could have more sound fields.

The good:
-Amazing sound quality. Seriously. I have always used Sony home theater receivers in the past, and they had the features and plenty of power for my setup, but I just never felt "amazed" by the sound quality. In particular I always felt that my surround speakers were being underutilized even after making all the allowable adjustments. But with this Marantz I could tell an immediate difference, the surround channels came to life and there was just a crisper, more immersive sound overall.
-It looks and feels like top-notch quality. Everything about it (other than my minor quibbles below) is very well thought out. The physical design as well as the setup menus just ooze quality without being overly complicated for the average user. Setup was a breeze.
The bad:
Granted these complaints sound picky, but for what this thing cost I feel entitled to be a little picky:
-The front display panel is teeny tiny. I mean it is small. I know you can view much of the same information on-screen, but I personally find on-screen displays distracting (volume, for example). In the scheme of things I would rather Marantz had skimped here rather than on the audio quality, but come on.
-The volume adjustment levels are excruciatingly subtle. I mean tapping the volume button on the remote once or twice makes no perceptible difference at all. You have to either tap it repeatedly 15 or 20 times before you hear a difference, or hold it down in which case you end up overshooting it. The best way I can describe it is that instead of having 10 volume levels of 1-10, or even breaking it into 20 levels of .5-10, it's 1,000 levels of .01-10. And that's all within the normal range of listening, I'm not talking about max volume here. Maybe that's just a brand thing, but it's something I have yet to get used to.
Overall it's a definite buy. My few gripes can probably even be chalked up to personal preference. But for the sound quality you get, you can't go wrong with this!

Bad Video Quality

I decided to purchase this amp for the pre outs to power my front L + R Towers. I Unplugged my Pioneer VSX 302 and hooked up the hdmi cables back into it and turned on the whole set up. For some reason the picture sharpness and quality is terrible. Spent hours on phone with Marantz and long story short there is no resolution. And as a disclaimer, I do have a 4k UHD tv, Top of the line HDMI Cord and have all the proper settings on the tv, receiver and other devices. I know they are great for "Music" but the video segment is not great. I will be returning this and spending the extra $500 to get the Pioneer Elite SCLX701.
