Amazing Sound

I am the owner of many Bluetooth speakers and I also own an Amazon Echo Show which sounds pretty good by itself. When I received this speaker I noticed how well built and classy this speaker looked. The nice materials and the nice knobs just look very high quality. I downloaded the app and within minutes I was listening to music. My first impression was how well it filled the room. This speaker sounds 3x the size. Once I tweaked the sound using the app (can also be done on the unit) I was amazed the sound this thing produces. Trust me, if you want an indoor speaker / Alexa this is for you. Alexa picks up from 2 rooms away so the voice detection is also great. My only two little complaints are there is no power switch so you just have to unplug if you don’t want it on and it has to be plugged in meaning no battery in the unit. Overall, sound is incredible.

There’s a lot to be desired from this speaker. I got its smaller brother the Stockwell II portable speaker as a Father’s Day gift and was impressed with it. I decide to gift myself this speaker for my birthday. This bigger more expensive model leaves me unimpressed. I had really big hopes for this speaker, after all it’s a “Marshall”. For the price I was expecting a bigger sound than it actually puts out. It looks great but falls short on power. Still prefer my Bose SoundLink I got like 5 years ago.

Hello, thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the Acton II Voice speaker. If you are looking for more output, the Stanmore or Woburn models will be more suitable.

The Marshall Action II with Alexa is a very nice sounding speaker. I playe everything from metal to EDM through this thing and it all sounds amazing.
Rock sounds especially good through this speaker. Don’t be fooled by its size either. It packs big sound in a small package.
The look is nothing short of wonderful. The design screams rock and roll and the build quality is so solid.
Setup is easy with the Marshall app. You can control the sound and EQ from the app or you can go old school with classic Marshall knobs to tune the sound.
The app works great and I had no issues with it during setup.
If you are a fan of good sound, especially rock and roll, get this speaker.

Very Good Without Quite Being Excellent

Marshall managed to release a very impressive speaker system that competes admirably with some of the heavy-hitters out there. And while it is competitive, it cannot surpass the audio you can get from (typically more pricey) competitors.
This is a stereo bass reflex loudspeaker system with two impressively crisp tweeters that are supplemented by a single woofer. It is capable of producing some impressive room-filling volume without objectionable distortion.
But Marshall added a few features that aim to separate this speaker from an already crowded field. The speaker is designed to look like a guitar amp which, I guess, is cute - but it adds physical controls that I like - manual source control, nicely balanced knobs to control volume and base and treble, and a button to control play/pause. One interesting choice here is the addition of an aux input which contributes to a strong recommendation for this device (playback from an aux input will surpass input from bluetooth ANY day).
So, to be clear, sound playback is very very good here - the bluetooth playback is noticeably weaker compared to cabled input (which is to be expected...but there are some bluetooth-only speakers that provide noticeably better sound). And I like being able to control bass and treble levels but the sound control could have been improved immeasurably with a midrange control as well (which could help supplement the sound losses from bluetooth transmission!).
But what I figured might be a wonky implementation here turned out to be a total winner - Amazon's Alexa. Once I had this set up in the Marshall app (there's always an app), it responded flawlessly - and managed to navigate sound between playback and response quite well.
So overall, there are clearly better speakers on the market - but most or all of them are noticeably more expensive. This system sounds really nice - especially when using a direct connection through the aux input. And the inclusion and implementation of Alexa is surprisingly good.
Marshall put out a cute speaker system here that is quite impressive but isn't really in the league of some of its more expensive competitors.

Retro Look, Modern Electronics

I was attracted by the retro look of this speaker immediately. I like modern style, but this speaker brought something back with the grill on the front and the knobs on top.
I know that this is made with Alexa and that I’ll almost never touch it, but the style and design and interaction that we used to get with our electronics drew me to this speaker. There is an equalizer in Marshall’s App, but I find that manually setting the bass and treble with the knobs on top give me the sound that I want more precisely. So it’s not just about look and feel. They’re useful. And the volume, of course, turning the knob rather than sliding across the screen on the phone gets me the volume that I want. Sliders in the apps can just be so touchy sometimes.
The sound is great, which is of course the primary thing. It gets loud and could be used for many things. It plugs in, so it is portable to an extent as long as you have an available plug. Alexa is Alexa. I got this because it had Alexa. I don’t get speakers that don’t have an assistant inside them anymore, with my preferred being Alexa. I find Alexa to be much more accurate than Google in finding the music that I want, which is what I use this for mostly (sometimes weather). I would highly recommend this Marshall - Acton II Voice Wireless Speaker with Amazon Alexa.
