Setup: Setup of the subwoofer was very easy. The box does show simple to follow directions to unpack the subwoofer from the box. It is very important that you follow their directions so as not to damage your new subwoofer. The subwoofer is packed very well. The top and bottom of the sub is packed in Styrofoam. The sub is wrapped in a thin cloth bag that keeps Styrofoam bits from sticking to and helps prevents scratches during unpacking. Personally, I thought the added touch gave a bit of class to the whole process. All the controls and connections on the back of the sub are clearly marked. For my setup, all I needed was power and the LFE cable from my receiver’s sub pre-out to the LFE connection the sub. I set the gain to the middle of the dial, the power control to auto, and toggled the app control switch to app. The sub is light and small making it easy to move into whatever room position I wanted. I chose to place the sub at the front of my room a few feet away from the corner. The user’s guide does cover, in detail, how to find the best room placement for your sub. Unpacking, connections, and placement took about ten minutes. App: There are two apps that make up the control system for this sub. There is the MarinLogan Sub Control app and then there is the Anthem Room Correction, or ARC, app. The user’s manual does cover these applications in detail. The application allows control over Volume, Low Pass Filter, Phase control, Listening Modes, 20 – 30 Hz boost levels, Room Correction, and the ability to set a pass code so that you can restrict who can modify the sub-woofer settings. I have this subwoofer paired with a Pioneer Elite receiver supports minimal base management. These applications add the base management back into my listening space. First, I’m allowing the receiver to manage the crossover frequency to the subwoofer. I have it set to 80Hz. It is a very common crossover setting. I then loaded the MartinLogan Sub Control app to my iPhone. I spent some time playing with all the settings. I didn’t have to worry about screwing up the sub because there is a reset button that will return everything to factory defaults. So, have fun. Finally, I chose to give the Anthem Room Correction a try. I was prompted to download a separate application from the Apple Store. The directions were simple. The results were magical. I was instructed to hold my iPhone at my primary listening position and then four additional positions around my listening position. What a difference this made to how the sub sounded in my room. It was like night and day. The base was smoother at my listening position and sounded better than with any of the manual settings that I had tried. Bravo MartinLogan! I wish I had this capability for my main home theater system. The manual does state that any sub will sound boomy without proper room calibration. So, keep in mind that great bass does take some effort on your part. ARC does make this process much easier. Another cool innovative feature that I directly benefited from is the ability to play a range of test tones through the sub. The app will run through a range of tones from 20hz to 120hz. I noticed immediately that my room hit a resonance frequency that sounded like the room was rattling. I was able to pause the frequency sweep and isolate the rattling noise to a frequency of 39hz. With the tone playing, I was able to identify the source of the resonance. It turned out that one of the subwoofer feet was not completely touching my floor. The movement was so slight that to the touch everything felt fine. I move the sub slightly and the resonance stopped. Wow! I would have never found this without the app. Saved me months of trying to track down strange resonances. The MartinLogan apps definitely set the Dynamos apart from all other subwoofers at this price point. What a value! Finally, the application does have three sound modes to choose from: Movie, Music, and Night. Movie is an aggressive bass management preset that is great for filling in those power bass notes from our favorite movies. Music is less aggressive and does make a difference when listening to my favorite music. Night is a bit more interesting. It seems to be a combination of aggressive bass management but at a lower volume. I noticed the sub was not very loud but did have great detail at those levels. I found this great because I often listen to my stereo at night when others in the home are in bed. It is also a great feature for those of you who live in apartment buildings and don’t want to upset your neighbors but still want good low-end detail. Documentation: The included documentation is excellent! I have not seen another speaker manufacture be as clear and descriptive as MartinLogan. I have owned Klipsch, SVS, Bower and Wilkins, and Sony. None of them hold a candle to MartinLogan. The manual is written in multiple languages. The diagrams are clear. The explanations of each feature are also clear and concise. A printed copy is in the box. The PDF copy is available on MartinLogan’s website. Music Sound: MartinLogan recommends that you break in your sub for about 50 hours before putting any real stress on it. After setup, I left my stereo play the radio for two days before doing any serious listening. The sub sounded boomy before running the room correction software. After running ARC, the sound did even out to sound more natural in my listening space. The base is tight and not overwhelming. For music, I do not have the sub setup aggressively. I listened to pop, some rap, electronica, electro swing, and classical music selections. They all sounded great. The sub is capable of outputting good sound pressure, but it is not powerful enough to punch me in the chest. In my opinion, a larger sub would be required to give you that punch to the chest feeling while also maintaining good, tight sound. For my purposes, this is one of the best 10” subs I’ve listened too that does a great filling in the low end for my speakers. Movie Sound: One of the first challenges I put the sub through was the original Pacific Rim. As I mentioned before, the bass from this sub will not punch you in the chest. It did play this movie with excellent detail. Every Jaeger foot step, punch, and Kaiju roar was excellent. The sub was also very detailed and speedy between changes in frequency. I normally watch this movie in my home theater that includes an SVS 2000 PB 12” ported sub. The SVS shakes the entire house! The 600X is not big enough or powerful enough to shake my house. It did still give me an excellence experience when taken in context of the smaller listening space and the inclusion the bass management provided by ARC. The experience does make me wonder how the larger subs in MartinLogan’s range could compete with my SVS sub in a home theater solution. When I’m ready to upgrade, I will definitely give MartinLogan a serious evaluation. The 600X is doing an excellent job as an inexpensive second system solution in my smaller, secondary listening space. I did test the sub’s prowess with additional content from Netflix. Again, the bass was accurate for its size, speedy, detailed, and never overwhelmed my speakers. All I needed to do was swipe a few settings in the base control app and more base was instantly available. I will caution you though. This sub only reaches down to 27 Hz. A movie like Pacific Rim will deep down to 20Hz or lower. Even though the movie sound great, there are still details that the sub cannot reproduce. Most music, however, will never reach this low. If you want to go deeper, then you may want to check out the 800X instead. Night Sound: As I mentioned before, I was impressed with the level of detail available with night mode. I listened to music and watched a few movies on Netflix. The sound levels did not rock my world but it did give me a special respect for this subwoofer. Give it a try. Overall Impression: I purchased this sub to add a stereo system to a small basement room that is primarily used for office work and music listening. I didn’t want to place a super powerful sub in this space because I don’t have a need for chest punching bass. My goal was sound detail. I feel that I achieved this. The inclusion of the application controls using my iPhone really took this 10” sub to a level that I didn’t think I could achieve with the equipment I have in this space. Boy, was I wrong. MartinLogan is really spoiling it’s customers with this level of control at this price point. They raised the bar for what I will expect for my next home theater subwoofer purchase. I hope you found this review helpful. I would recommend this subwoofer to anyone who is looking to setup an inexpensive home theater or stereo system in a smal

I've only had one subwoofer in my life--a small, old one that I've had for at least 10 years--so I jumped at the chance to review a high-end subwoofer. This subwoofer does not disappoint in the slightest. First off--this thing is big and gorgeous. The casing on it is beautiful--rich and black. It's very large, but doesn't look out of place at all in a media room (see picture). Even with the size it's very easy to unpack out of the box. The instructions are right on top as soon as you open it, with a clear explanation to remove the cord packed on top, then turn the box over and lift it off of the subwoofer. It's packed very carefully and the box is very sturdy. It would take something very severe to damage one of these. The instruction manual is one of the thickest I've ever seen. It's neat that it even comes with one at all, but the detail in this is truly impressive. There are in-depth instructions on hooking up the sub, where to place it in the room, the best settings for what you're listening to, how different speakers and sound systems work together, and even how to use the app (more on the app in a minute). It's also in several different languages. Connections are simple or complicated depending on how you want to hook it up. I took the simple route and just used the sub pre-outs on my receiver. You can adjust the volume and db range manually on the back of the sub, or (a much better method) use the app on your phone to control it. The sound is fantastic. A truly immersive and rich bass that compliments every thing you'd want to listen to it with. Music and movies sound incredible--particularly action movies, of course. I tested it with Jurassic Park and was really blown away with the T-Rex intro, as well as the stampede scene. You will not be disappointed with the sound. The app for this device truly shines. It's a well-thought out app that doesn't take up a lot of room (took 2 seconds to download). The first thing it does when you open it is walk you through finding your sub. Once I turned the switch on the back of the sub to the correct position it found it right away. Next it does a quick firmware update (if necessary)--mine took about three minutes. After that the controls are amazingly simple--or complicated if you want to get really in-depth with every setting. The home screen has a nice, easy to understand db control switch on it that I was very impressed with (see picture). It's intuitive and the sub responds almost instantly. I genuinely wish all apps worked as well as this one does. If you're in the market for a new sub and want something truly impressive then this is the one for you. Highly recommended!

This is a high quality, well-made speaker. It’s the perfect subwoofer for a small to medium size living room. I live in a townhome, and the bass this subwoofer produces is exceptional for my 300 sq. feet living room. This subwoofer is replacing an old 10inch sub that was part of a pre-packaged surround sound system. The old subwoofer produced good base, but nothing like this MartinLogan sub. Both have 10-inch speakers, but the Dynamo 600X can produce lows down to the 27 Hz frequency. At that frequency, you hear and feel the rumbles in movie explosion scenes. And it’s not a harsh or bloated rumble; it’s a smooth and clean sound. The 120 watts RMS output is also the perfect amount for my size living room. It’s powerful enough to produce loud base, but not too powerful to shake all the houses next to me. The setup is quite easy. I ran the single subwoofer coaxial cable from A/V receiver to the back of the LFE input on the subwoofer. There are other methods to connect the sub, such as with standard left and right RCA cables, or with speaker cable that are terminated with banana plugs. Either way, you should have this sub up and running in no time. At this point, the base and low frequency sounds are exceptional, but if you want to fine-tune it further, MartinLogan offers a free app that you can download to either your Android or iPhone. The app connects to the subwoofer via Bluetooth. Once connected, you can adjust the sub’s volume, phase, polarity, etc. It’s not necessary to do all this, but the options are there if needed. The most useful feature in the app is the Sweep option. When you activate the Sweep option, the sub will begin producing base at its lowest frequency level (27 Hz) and slowly increase the frequency to it’s highest base level (200 Hz). Not only does it sound cool, among other benefits, it’s also very helpful in allowing you to determine the sub’s best volume level for your room. One more point regarding the setup, in addition to the subwoofer’s app, MartinLogin also integrates something called Anthem Room Correction, or ARC for short. Using a separate free app, you can fine tune the sub further by allowing your phone to use its built-in microphones to measure the sub’s soundwaves in relation to your primary seating areas in your living room. Essentially, the ARC app measures the sound using algorithms, and improves the sub’s output based on its location within your room’s unique dimensions. This process sounds complicated, but MartinLogin makes it very easy to use. They also provide these options for free, which is a testament to MartinLogin’s passion for sound, along with their ability to stay up to date with the latest technology. I do want to mention a few limitations. However, they were not deal breakers for me. I wish this model had the Energy Transfer Coupler spikes under the rubber feet. The rubber feet do an excellent job keeping the sub stable, but the spikes would have secured it in-place better. Also, this unit’s speaker is only down firing. While this will work for most people, MartinLogin’s higher models allow you to convert the speaker to forward facing if needed (for when it’s sitting behind a cabinet). One more major difference in design between this model and MartinLogan’s higher models, the LFE and Right RCA plug share the same input. Meaning, you can either use the standard RCA (red & white) stereo cables to connect the sub to the receiver, or the single subwoofer coaxial cable, but not both. Again, for most people, including myself, this isn’t a problem. But others may want to keep their stereo inputs separate from their home theater multi-channel LFE input, to allow for even more control of the subwoofer. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this model. If you’re looking for a quality subwoofer with the latest technology, the Dynamo X series is the way to go.

I opened the box in anticipation of testing this sub out with my new copy of The Last Jedi. Once I set it up (truly plug and play), I was off to download the Martin Logan app and tune the sub to my room. The app connects to the sub via Bluetooth and even updates the sub through Bluetooth connectivity. I was asked if I'd like to update the firmware once the app was running and it flawlessly updated the sub in only a few minutes. Easy, easy... love this feature, as no physical connections are needed. Another stellar feature of this line of subs is the ARC (Anthem Room Correction) which basically tunes your sub to your own unique room via an app with your cell phone speaker, or taking it a step further, with a special ARC microphone (available separately) that is specifically designed to give the most accurate result. Since my room is relatively small, I chose to try the cell phone speaker and it performed to my satisfaction. The ARC app is also available to help you with this process. There is also ARC functionality available through the easy to use Martin Logan app. The manual is very straight forward and easy to follow if you need extra help. Now to the sound which is easily the most important aspect. Let's just say I am super happy with the sound and cutoff frequencies that this sub provides. I had to replace another sub which had the same size woofer, only the old one was front facing and this one fires down towards the floor. After using it for a few weeks and many films laster, I can say that I now prefer the floor facing woofer. It's also more protected from little ones and animals which is a big bonus. I have this unit currently paired with JBL 4408A studio monitors and a JBL center channel and I am in high fi heaven. The immersion with my PS3 games is now off the charts. The size is just right for my room and after the easy tuning process, the projection is spot on. Overall, this is an excellent piece of equipment I am proud to own. Thank you, Martin Logan and to Best Buy for carrying such a great product!

This review is gonna be from a "regular" person's perspective and won't include all that technical stuff since 1) I don't have a mic or feel like downloading the software to test it 2) If it sounds good who cares what a benchmark might say. So it sounds good! I used a little HTIB for a few weeks and was OK with it, but decided I need my full size system back running so I hooked it up. The bass output is decent with the floor speakers I have, but they just couldn't hit that deep, feel in your chest bass. Luckily this popped up on TIN so I decided to go for it. My receiver doesn't have LFE out so I have to use the standard sub out. You can control the sub manually (which only has volume control) or using the App (this is where you get to the good stuff!). The sub has built in bluetooth that allows you to connect the app. First thing was to grab a firmware update that took about 5 minutes. After that came all the normal set up to get the sub going. I don't have very many optimal spaces open in my man cave so I just put it under the TV which really is the worst spot acoustically for the shape of the room. This is where the app came in and took the set up to a new level. The app allows you to control volume, crossover, and phase (this was the sweet one for me). There are also presets for Movie, Music, and Night. Each seems to cut off the lower frequencies as you move up. Movies has the most range and hits those deep thunderous lows that you love when watching action movies, Music doesn't go as low and sounds "tighter". Night cuts out pretty much all the low range so you don't disturb anyone (as much) when you wanna keep it quiet. You can set up the low pass filter in the app too, but I have it set to bypass and control it with the receiver. I did test Third order and it worked well, I just don't have much input on it though. Next was the setting that made it go from "it's OK" to "Holy Smokes" - Phase/Polarity. Like I mentioned I couldn't put the sub in the real sweet spot because it's occupied so the sound was OK, not really mind blowing. Then I tapped the inverted phase button and it improved a good bit. I could feel it and get the low hums now. Next I adjusted the phase - I got sweet spot sound from a spot that couldn't do it before! Lows were deep and punches slapped! This app made it so I could put the sub almost anywhere. The other sub is 20yrs old and still sounds good but it was limited to phase, crossover, and volume. Without the polarity it just couldn't do what this sub could in the spot it was in. There are two other settings 20-30hz level and the room correction (requires ARC app) that I didn't use either. All my tweaking I've done last night (thanks for not cussing me out sweetie!) got me where I wanted to be. I'm 100% satisfied with everything this sub brings - though I'm sure my wife won't be! Hoping that in 20yrs I'll still be running this like my old sub that's being used on my gaming PC.

Got the Sub and quckly replaced my existing 12" sub. Hook up was really simple(power cord and subwoofer RCA connection). I was immediately up and running. Crossover knob is available on the back as well. Out of the Box, the sub worked well and had good performance. But what really makes this sub shine is the APP from Martin Logan. So upon download to my phone, the app searches and finds the sub via bluetooth. Connection was quick and seamless. Then just flip the switch on the back of the sub and you are ready to use the app. Upon connection, you have a ton of options available for configuration and performance. The most obvious of these are 3 modes: Movie, Music, Night. Each emphasizing different frequency response levels. I initially tested with Movie mode: this mode "maximizes device for an especially explosive experience". This mode output performed well. I started at -10bB whcih is also where I ended up after tweeking! Once of the best features that is built in the app is the "Sweep" mode. Ever had an object that would rattle but you never can reproduce the bass rumble to find it. NOW YOU CAN. The sweep mode takes you through the entire frequency band!! This will let you find those items or help with sound isolation. Finally once you find the setting you want with the app. you can set a password so it can't accidentally be changed. The sub also has the option for ARC tuning and wireless connection. Both of these are addon options should you need them. ARC is a audio tuning software application that can be connected via USB and the wireless option is if you can't run the RCA cable to your sub location. Over all, this 10" sub packs a punch, looks great and has a ton of features. The manual is well documented and easy to understand. It explains every option you can configure. I did reduce the star rating to 4 because the manual shows that the sub can be changed from bottom firing to front firing but I was not able to do that with the 600X. Also while the sub performed well at low and especially moderate levels. I did get some distortion at reference levels. To be fair, I do run a higher end system utilizing separate PRE/PRO so my expectations are beyond what most consumers would ever consider. As such, I would probably need the larger models offered to meet my needs. Highly recommended sub with lots of performance and features for the money!

I purchased this sub to replace my Infinity Entra sub that I bought back in 2001 from Audio King. I have liked these speakers, not the best, but worked for what I could afford back then. The issue that I was having is that the sub since I moved it downstairs is just not hitting hard enough for me anymore. So at first, I decided that I was going to try replacing the receiver, but the Denon that I want was on sale for $1199, and I didn’t want to spend that much to replace my perfectly fine amp. So I decided to buy a new Sub instead, and after doing my research narrowed it down to 3 different ones, but needed to hear them before purchasing one. I decided to go with the MartinLogan Dynamo 600X after being very impressed with it at the store, and glad that I did. This sub is fantastic even out of the box, but the best part of it is the MartinLogan subwoofer app that is available to download from the app store. It allows you to fine tune the sub to your space and also run room correction with the additional Anthem ARC app. After playing with the app and fine-tuning it, which took about 30 minutes it sounds incredible. I can turn the receiver up to half volume now, and the sub kicks in, unlike my old one that had to be maxed on the volume before the lows kicked in. I have only had this sub for 3 days, but am highly impressed with it so far, and glad that I went with MartinLogan over the Klipsch that I thought I wanted from researching subs. As soon as I can afford to upgrade my other speakers, I am going to look into making my whole system MartinLogan. I have been impressed with MartinLogan for years but have never been able to afford them, now that I can, I am so happy I decided to go with them over Klipsch or Def Techs.

As a disclaimer, I received this MartinLogan 600 x sub as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider Network. My home setup is a Yamaha Aventage 2020 receiver with Infinity mains and center and Definitive Technology surrounds. I guess I'm a little old school with the infinity setup but I have alway been a fan of their products. My current sub was the JBL sw250 which peaks at 700 watts. So on to my thoughts about the Dynamo 600x. This sub is rated at a maximum output of 240 watts with a frequency response of 27 to 200 hz. The room I have set up for gaming and movie watching is 22 feet by 11 feet. In a room this size, this amp has more than enough power, this was a concern of mine going from a 700 watt peak output sub to this one. The bass is tight and strong and makes movie watching an enjoyable experience. (I like strong bass). I am still toying with the free app that MartinLogan has introduced. The app connects to the speaker via bluetooth and allows instant setting changes such as movie, music and night mode, volume adjustment and ARC room correction to get the very best sound possible from this subwoofer. The 600x is impressive in many ways and actually blends well with my current Infinity setup. I have to say that I really like this sub. If I had a larger space, I would definitely want to go bigger, maybe the 1100X for large rooms, but so far I am very pleased. There is also an optional wireless connection that can be added to the sub for rooms where running a cable would be difficult. MartinLogan makes great products and you can add the Dynamo 600X to that ever-growing list.

This subwoofer was definitely worth upgrading to from my existing setup (Polk Audio PSW505). It had all the existing features as well as many new ones that make it exceed well above expectations. For starters, the product itself looks and feels great. The matte finish hides the subwoofer well and doesn't make it stand out too in the room. The setup was overall very easy. It was a little finicky at first, I had to readjust quite a few settings through my receiver before I got the sound I was looking for. The mobile app you need is connected via bluetooth, and there are settings that can only be adjusted with the application. This is my only gripe with this subwoofer, because I don't really like it when things are hidden within an application that can disappear one day. With that said, the app is well designed and everything is easy to follow. This was my first time with a downward facing subwoofer, and it sure was quite interesting feeling the difference. The bass is more grounded and less in your face. It was very easy to feel the rumbles when watching a movie, and the Dynamo 600X does a great job at controlling the bass. Overall, I am very happy with the 600X and I see no problems with recommending this to my friends.

This thing is big and powerful! It is very big and heavy (almost 40 lbs). This makes my previous Yamaha sub woofer seem tiny. Apparently it fires downwards. It has connections for XLR balanced LFE, however if your receiver has only one LFE channel, you're good, it will still work. The woofer gives you the option to use it locally or via an app. It has a standby mode (whenever it detects a signal it will turn on automatically). The lows are amazing, it made my whole apartment rumble (it came with the level set to medium, I had to lower it a tad). The build quality is amazing and you can tune it via its app if you chose to do so (settings like crossover, level etc). You can also use an app to calibrate it according to the space you have it at (like new receivers, that come with a mic to calibrate them, this uses your phones mic).

First of all I am no audiophile. I am making this review as someone upgrading from using a passive sub-woofer to an active one. It goes without saying that the sound emitted by this 240-watt sub is much louder than my previous 50-watt sub. That said clarity in this sub is notable compared to the usual muffled bass from sub. From that point of view, there's not much to say about sub-woofers. But one neat feature of this sub-woofer is the app that controls the settings of this sub-woofer. Of course you can reach out of the back to control the settings but using it from your phone is always a plus. There is also an optional wireless control and if you also have compatible speakers you can use a mobile app to fine tune your whole speaker setup.

After I found out about the App for Sound settings and Room correction available for the the Dynamo models 600x and up , I returned the Dynamo 400 I had just purchased and got myself the 600x, that was the best thing I did. If you can afford to spend a little more don't get the 400 and go for the 600x or bigger if you have a large room. For apartments or rooms that aren't too big I think the 600x is great. The app gives you a lot of options to tweak the sound settings that actually work and is just great. The app for room correction works very well and it makes a big difference. I'm very happy with this sub.

Let first say this sub is a beast. It weighs around 40 lbs Out of the box setup was very easy, Download ARC app to have better control of frequencies. I did enjoy the different listening modes in the app. I love the downward firing design. It has very solid low bass. It also has connections for RCA as well as speaker inputs. As well as ARC input. It can be controlled by app or by controls on the sub. The app setting is very useful when you have placed the sub in a hard to reach an area. You will be pleasantly surprised by the bass from Dynamo 600X

What an upgrade from my small, 10" Yamaha that I've had for 15 years. The Yamaha wasn't bad, but it lacked the deep, booming bass that I wanted and struggled greatly at higher volumes (over-extension, distortion, and popping). The Martin Logan Dynamo is only slightly larger than my previous sub, but the sound quality is amazingly better. My wife has complained that it's almost too much bass and now I have to go around and find all of the things in the room that are vibrating.

This subwoofer is excellent in every way. The unboxing was very easy and came out looking really good. The sub fits perfectly in the corner of the room and looks good by itself. Easy to hook up as well just unplugged my old one and plugged this one in. The app control makes it so much easier to control every aspect of the sub. You get a full sound and it can definitely shake the room if you wanted it too. I have 17' high ceilings and it fills the room great!

The subwoofer was easy to set up. You can feel the vibrations on the floor. Action scenes are more intense.

I returned this subwoofer and exchanged it for the Klipsch R-100SW, which is a much better value!
