Buy for the goggles....avoid the viewmaster games...they are overprices and very limited. The upside is that the viewmaster goggles work well with the google cardboard vr games.

Good Intro product for VR

This is a great buy for anyone who's interested in trying out VR for the first time. The viewmaster is well built and priced well especially if you compare it to other google cardboard products (which by the way are actually made of cardboard). The instructions that came with the product weren't that great but i was never planning on using mattel's limited app to begin with, as the real deal is the various other VR apps, especially google cardboard & streetview -which should be the first apps you download on your phone. The only reason i took off one star was because this device lacks a headband, so you have to hold it up, but i knew that before purchasing. Otherwise there is definitely a WOW factor when using this product, and everyone i've shown it to has been impressed. For anyone that's on the fence about buying it, give it a go, its well worth it.
*on a side note, nothing to do with this device in particular, but youtube 360 cardboard videos currently only work on android devices and not on ios.

A Neat VR Toy, But Not a Great VR Headset

I tried the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift a few weeks ago and loved both. My PC isn't powerful enough to run one, though, so I thought I'd a cheaper, smartphone-based VR headset. I saw this one on sale for ~$19 and decided to take the plunge.
It was fun at first, but the excitement started to wear off quickly for a few reasons. The first and most obvious is the lack of a headstrap. VR typically involves a lot of movement, and holding the View-Master up to your face is awkward and annoying. Second, the part where your nose is supposed to go isn't very deep and starts to hurt.
With that said, there's a lot to like about it. It's modelled after the original View-Master, which gives it some nostalgia point. It's also Google Cardboard-compatible, so there's quite a few apps to try out (including YouTube!). This would be a great gift for a kid or a teenager, though. It's a good introduction to VR, and definitely better than a cardboard VR "headset", but don't expect an Oculus experience.
Pros:
+ Compatible with Google Cardboard
+ Decent VR effect
+ Retro vibe
Cons
- No headstrap
- Awkward and somewhat painful to "wear"

Would love a head strap, as you have to hold it up against your eyes the whole time you use it, but yeah it's good quality. Does VR well, just desperately needs a strap.

My son begged me to get it and he loves it! Reminds me of an old school Reel I had as a child. The picture quality is great. He likes to use it as a VR with his cell phone, which makes the pictures seem little bit too close to the eyes as compared with the Samsung VR. It does have a great learning component when used as designed!

I love that they mashed together the old-school View Master that I grew up with and the new VR tech. We haven't had a chance to use it with the View Master app, but it's worked great with the apps we've downloaded to both a Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4. The Cedar Point VR rollercoaster app is SO much fun!
