As far as I can tell the machine washes well. However, my complaint is that it is very noisy. There is noise constantly, when the cycles change as well as during the different cycles.

I chose this washer because it does a complete regular wash in 55 minutes and it was suppose to be quiet. it definitely cleans in 55 minutes but is louder than I expected. It cleans well and has a feature to use deep water cleaning. Highly recommend!

Auto Sense is the Devil!!

One month ago our 17 year old Maytag top loading washer stopped fully draining most loads of laundry requiring an extra spin cycle. We had a repair man come out and replace the belt. But it turns out the bearings were also shot and he said it would cost more to repair than buying a new washer. Oh how I wish we had replaced the bearings in the old washer.
Instead we bought this new Maytag top loading washer model MVWC565FW. And after experimenting with all of the possible settings, I will say that this is the worst appliance I have ever purchased. Of course my wife looked up reviews prior to purchasing and it had 4.5 stars with many glowing 5 star reviews. Sadly we didn’t pay enough attention to the one star reviews. Maytag/Whirlpool must have funded a big army to place misleading reviews to achieve 4.5 stars. Or maybe we just got unlucky with a true lemon. Here are my complaints.
The auto sense functionality is an abomination as it adds 20 min to what our old washer use to take. It barely wets the clothes. It is very loud during agitation and wash. Most of the setting knobs impart no actual setting input and are ignored. When selecting hot water for most wash settings, the washer will ultimately fail out and stick in the wash cycle. The Deep Water setting is supposed to work with the Whites wash setting, but doesn’t ever add more water than the auto sense level. And the auto sense time wasting cycle still runs even with Deep Water selected. The washer won’t run with the lid open so it is difficult to trouble shoot. The lid switch can be defeated easily, but it is annoying. The agitation cycle is loud and seems very power hungry for such a supposedly energy efficient machine as each agitation dims the laundry room lights!! The normal cycle seems to ignore all other settings and takes 1 hour vs our old washer that took 20 min. The cold wash setting seems to work ok, but also takes an hour. We haven’t been able to get the washer to complete any cycles with hot water. I verified that the hot water supply line is providing scalding hot water, but the washer just won’t use it. That is until I swapped the hot and cold supply lines to the washer. Then the hot water came through fine, which is wanted for loads of whites, but not desired for darks. I looked up YouTube reviews and found a diagnostic mode check that I ran on the washer and it came up with no errors. But I would say that this washing machine’s existence is one big error.
I have never loathed an appliance more. The user manual is also trash and very unhelpful. The instructions on the inside of the lid are confusing and actually contradict the manual in places.
The only thing I can say positive is that for the loads that completed successfully, the clothes smelled clean, even very sweaty gym clothes.
I was also misled by the Best Buy sales team as they told me that the Power Wash setting was for quick washes. Well they are wrong as it is 180 deg the opposite and takes 2 hours. Again, the clothes did smell very clean. But there seems to be no way to wash a load of clothes in less than one hour. And it’s 50/50 if the cycle will complete.
I have spent days running cycles and coming up with mixed results. I desperately want to return this machine but to my horror I discovered that the Best Buy return period for appliances is only 15 days instead of the 30 or 45 that I am use to as a MyBestBuy Elite member.
I hate this washing machine. Do not buy it. I now question the Maytag brand and don’t recommend it.
I did buy the Geek Squad protection as I don’t trust electronic products in our planned obsolescence world. Perhaps they can help exorcise the demons from this cursed machine. If not I will demand they allow me to return it for literally any other washer, preferably one that allows auto sense mode to by fully bypassed.
It’s very sad because the size, top loading, and classic knob controls with minimal electronic buttons/computer screen have great potential. But it literally fails to do its basic job of completing a wash cycle half the time. And doesn’t use the hot water. And takes forever.
Stay away from this nightmare.

It seems fine so far. I have some questions about the noise it makes while filling up the tub. The installation was fine. I am happy with how the clothes come out.

Does a great job on laundry. First new washer in 20 years, so longer cycle times surprised us, but the (much) larger tub means fewer, bigger, loads. Guess it averages out. Pleased with the purchase.

This washer holds 2 sets of king sheets with room to spare. Clothes are clean. I do wish the top didn’t lock when in use. I like to add my soap after most of the water is in so my stuff isn’t sitting around in undiluted detergent.

Just what I was looking for. The tub is bigger than anticipated and I am pleasantly surprised. The is no fancy bells and whistles, controls knobs are simple and easy to understand. If your looking for a machine that doesn't take a degree to use. This the one! Love it! Highly recommend.

I love my new washer! Nice big tub. Cleans great. A few too many choices to choose from in the dials.
My only complaint is sometimes the spin cycle does not drain all of the water out, especially on larger loads.

Basic Maytag washer purchased with matching dryer. This replaced a previous older version and so far so good. Not a lot of electrical components to go bad on this basic washer. Huge capacity for my family. Very quiet and easy to use!

The washer is very good. Especially compared to the crud out there now. It is very loud though. I'll deal with noise over not cleaning my clothes properly

About 2 years ago we bought the Matag mvwx655dw1 which is very similar in appearance and controls. (I think it was discontinued.) Worst purchase ever. It doesn't add enough water and doesn't get the clothes clean. It's also incredibly loud. I don't want to be unfair to Matag-- they may have corrected the problems. But the one we purchased should never had been put on the market. I've attached a photo of ours.

I gave it 4 stars because it is noisy. Weird grunts and groans noises. It is nothing like my 30 year old Maytag washer that just stop working except it gets the clothes clean.

it’s a big washer and can fit a lot of clothes. The Agitator is really great as well. I gave it 3 stars because the water doesn’t fill enough. When you use the sensor, it will give you a small amount of water for an average load and then you’ll have soap spots on your clothes.

I used to have Maytag washer years ago but last purchase was an LG front loading machine. I sold my house and new owners wanted it and since I was moving to a smaller place I sold it and purchased this Maytag top loader. Great capacity, I like it better than the front loader. Pleased with purchase. Good price, easy to use. Not the odor you sometimes can get with front loaders.

Had to replace my washer of 6 years with this Maytag washer. I wanted a washer with a big tub and got it with this. The tub is extremely big. It's not loud, but it's not quite. If you have the door closed you should be fine. The only thing I do t care for is it did not dissolve my snuggle pods all the way. I changed to the little beads and they work great. Love my new washer.

I wanted a model with all of the bells and whistles, but my wife wanted a simple to use model that was large enough for heavy bedding. We previously had a Maytag, and it lasted 15 years with not a single repaired before it finally died. I did some research and this model was highly rated, and it was American made to boot. Wife's happy, so I'm happy.....very good purchase.

I needed a washer quickly since my old one died and was not worth repairing. This one uses way less water and cleans the clothes pretty well. However, a couple of times so far I have had to run the spin cycle again since the clothes were not totally wrung out. It also seems to be a little quieter than my old one. The washer fills with water more slowly than my old one because it only fills the amount it needs based on the load---no more small, medium or large options. You can use the "add extra water" option though. Overall it seems to be working well but I did purchase the extended warranty since nothing lasts anymore. :(

I considered sending this washer back and getting another but I did not. The amount of time it takes to do a load of clothes is at least twice as long as my old machine. It takes an average of one and a half hours to complete a load. It is also very loud. After considering the fact that the capacity is very large and I can do twice as many clothes at one time I decided to keep it. However, if you have a small load it still takes way too long.

Needed to replace our 20yo Maytag washer and chose this model because it had large capacity and a number of wash cycle options as well as water sensor It was also a good value. We were happy with our Maytag and wanted another.
This machine is very satisfactory, versatile, quiet, economical to purchase and operate, and the clothes get clean !
