Customers are saying

Customers regard the Cassette Player with AM/FM Radio as easy to use and appreciate its portability and inclusion of AM/FM radio functionality. However, many customers express concerns about the sound quality and the reliability of the cassette player mechanism itself. Some also find the price to be high for the perceived quality of the product. Additional issues were noted with the battery compartment and the lack of a rewind function.

    Disappointing sound

The player is a perfect size, but for some reason it only plays with the earphones attached. Perhaps I didn't understand how it works, but I followed all the instructions. And there was no recording capability, which I didn't realize until I opened the package. The controls were fairly simple to use, and the sound was just OK with the earphones. All in all, a vastly inferior product to the cassette players of old. I returned it, and am still on the hunt for a good player.

I wanted to buy a simple cassette player for my mom to listen to audiobooks. This seemed to be perfect but it was far from it. It began when I inserted batteries and it would not turn on. After trying everything including new batteries, I examined the battery compartment and found that the little Quality Control (ha) sticker was stuck to one of the terminals. I removed it with tweezers, inserted batteries and it worked. I first tried the radio but could not pick up a station. No problem, it was for tapes. I then tried to insert a cassette tape but it wouldn’t go in. After repeated attempts, I saw that you had to very carefully guide the tape past the ridges in the mechanism just the right way for it to go in. Not gonna happen with my 90 year old mom. At last I was able to play a tape but even at low volume was unintelligibly distorted. I thought maybe it was a bad spot on the tape so I’ll rewind it and try again. But AGGHH, there’s no rewind on this model. Other tapes had the same problem. Needless to say, I returned it for a refund. Unless you are a masochist or live for challenges, don’t buy this product.

This wasn't just bad, it was totally nonfunctional. The cassette tape player didn't work. And the volume control was stuck in one position. The radio played but the reception was poor. This item was of such poor quality that should be pulled off the shelves immediately. I returned mine the next day. Best Buy representatives handled the situation well and credited my account.

The cassette tape is extremely hard to get in and out of the player, and the player does not have a rewind function. This also makes the player hard to use. However the price is not bad and I could not find another store that still sells them.

As the world knows, no one has used cassette tapes since MC Hammer - or before. I had some old speech/conference tapes I wanted to check out to see if they could/should be put on CDs. Not sure whether it was the tapes or the player, but quality was very poor. Also, the cassette player was cheap plastic and flimsy. I was afraid to even insert the tapes for fear that something would snap. An actual tape deck proved to be more useful.

Bought this to listen to old tapes I have, sounds ok, feels very cheap though, i wish I still had my Sony Walkman. Hard to find a decent tape player for cheap but this will do!

This is a cheaper cassette player. Not too impressed with it though. The sound is just fair. I would buy a better one for an adult or older child.

The first one I took was defective. It was very difficult to get the batteries in, and the tapes sounded as if they were playing at the wrong speed. The replacement was marginally better, at least so far. The batteries went in more easily. Two of the three tapes I've played sounded OK, though a little tinny.

Believe it or not, I still listen to cassettes (interviews). I've relied on my Sony Walkman since 1988, but it finally bit the dust. I had a really hard time finding a replacement. In searching for a replacement, I didn't have much choice. In fact, I believe there were only two. I chose the Memorex. The sound quality is fair and it's not super sturdy, but it does its job.

Plays tapes fine, not well built. Case should be built of sturdier material.

Went to get the simple player for my father to use, during his hospital visits. But the batteries were hard to install, like the compartment was too small, even customer service wasn't able to put them in or take out . The speed of the tape player also varied. So I had to return it after trying 2 of them.

Thought these were extinct but found one for my old school mom. It's very plastic and feels very cheap yet cost more than a portable CD player. Not great but can't expect to find variety.

This Memorex player has a sleek, appealing exterior. Yet when I opened the battery compartment, I discovered the standard AA batteries (printed size) wouldn't fit. Somehow, the manufacturer made it too short for the batteries to go in. Ha! Who would've expected that to be a problem?! Perhaps that one, and more, skipped inspection.

I like to listen to books on cassette, and still have about forty books remaining from a big purchase I made 10 years ago. But my old Sony Walkman finally died. I thought this would be a fair replacement, but the battery compartment is about 2 mm too short, so I need a screwdriver to force the batteries into the compartment. Then the cassettes don't fit easily into the slot provided and once in, are very difficult to remove to turn over or change. Terribly frustrating to try and use.

First off, why is this thing 30 dollars?! Old tech shouldn't cost much, especially when it feel so cheap in your hands. The fast forward function took forever. Once the tape was finally ready, the dumb thing played it slow. I tried more than one tape and the same thing happens. Horrible product that I have to return and try to get my money back. Complete waste of time!
