Super Impressive with a wireless VR Headset

My previous VR headset is an HTC Vive Cosmos and while it's been discontinued, it was a decent headset because it didn't require Light Towers. However, it did require a physical connection to my computer for processing power. While there were wireless adapters, I couldn't make the investment at the time. Fast forward a few years later and the Meta Quest 3 steps up the game with higher resolution, better ergonomics and independent processing power.
Like the HTC Vive Cosmos, the Meta Quest 3 uses SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) tracking. It uses the headset's built-in cameras to map the surrounding environment and track its own position within that space.
Since the Quest series has entered the market, it has dominated and I believe I heard that it has 95% of the VR market share. And for good reason. Despite being a wireless device which means all the processing power and battery capacity are on board the Quest 3 headset, it's still about 100 grams lighter than the HTC Vive Cosmos. That's impressive. The Quest 3 has great resolution, decent battery life, and the focus adjustment stays solid whereas the Cosmos I had to adjust every so often. Plus Meta continues to grow their already vast media, game and application library.
In the box, you don't get much the headset is set up with no assembly required. The controllers have a pull tab on each to enable the battery. The controllers each have a triangular button that you press to unlock the battery door and each controller is powered by a single AA battery.
The headset has a velcro release to adjust the viewing height while straps in the back are adjusted to help you keep the visor to your eyes. On the left side there is a USB-C port that is used to charge the Meta Quest 3. A USB-C cable is included as well as a wall adapter that is capable of 18 Watts. The power button sits just below the USB-C port. Underneath there is a dial for moving the lenses, wireless charging contacts, and a volume rocker button. On the right side, there is an audio jack port. Inside the lens area, there is a button on either side for depth adjustment.
Like some of the modern smart sunglasses, there are speakers built into the temples and are rear firing so they are aimed towards your ears.
After setting up the Meta Quest, I set up Meta Quest Link on my desktop and was super impressed with the way I could operate my PC in the Quest 3 as a Virtual Desktop. I could watch movies, operate my PC, browse the web, all in my Quest 3 and set it up with large monitors. It was great.
I was also able to transfer movies to the storage of the Quest 3 and then pull it up as a movie file and depending on the application, it can make it look like you're in a theater watching the movie. I also downloaded some sample 3D environments like a cavern looking out into a forest and it was quite impressive. I also viewed a free documentary/immersive experience about rebuilding Notre Dame.
While all that was happening, I was downloading Batman: Arkham Shadow. I've played about a half hour of the game and I'm truly impressed. The graphics are great. The interaction is well thought out. It really demonstrates the capabilities of the Meta Quest 3. I can't wait to get back into the game.
However, there is a bit of a downside with a fully immersive game. Most of the interaction with the Quest 3 is in a Mixed Reality setting. You see your real life environment through the built in cameras and the resolution isn't crystal clear. But at least my brain can match up my movements to what I'm seeing through the Quest 3 cameras. However, when in a game like Batman: Arkham Shadow, I cannot reconcile my movements (or lack thereof) to the movements with the game. So I get a little bit of simulator sickness after 30 minutes or so.
Overall, I'm really enjoying this VR generational jump from the HTC Vive Cosmos to the Meta Quest 3. I'm looking forward to getting some of the popular games like Beat Saber and possibly Star Wars: Vader Immortal.

I got nothing! The store just inflated me. They claim that the parcel has been delivered. But I was at home on the day of delivery. And I went down 2 minutes after I received a delivery notification. I didn't get anything!!! They should ask for a signature for expensive things!

Bought the 3 to replace a broken 2. Spent $500 on a 512gb and it only lasted 16 months. Now in a locked mode.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback, we appreciate it. We completely understand that your Meta Quest 3 being locked after having it for 16 months is not ideal and we would recommend contacting our dedicated support team via our website as they will be more than happy to look onto this issue for you!

This product is junk. Valve did it far better with the Index almost 10 years ago. The game it comes with does not even have a teleport function so unless you have a massive space its not playable. Would not recommend to anyone.

Amazing Experience and an Impressive VR Upgrade

Talk about an immersive experience! I previously owned the Quest 2 and found it to be a good experience, if not great for playing games like Beat Saber. The Quest 3 is an improvement above and beyond what I could have ever expected.
First, the quality of the visuals is fantastic, and by far, is the most immersive VR set I've had the opportunity to try. The pass through lenses provide a full color view of your surroundings, almost making it feel like you aren't wearing a headset at time. My previous experience was a black and white and somewhat grainy view from the Quest 2. The Q3 is a huge upgrade.
Beyond the visuals, the impressive view in my mind is the level of comfort with the Q3. I can game for an hour with the headset on and it just feels lighter, more comfortable, and less of a weight on my head. It's a huge improvement in terms of design.
Probably as equally important is refresh rate. 90-120hz VR is awesome and makes a huge difference in apps that support it. Motion is so much more fluid.
Now for my particular use case. I love to play video games, and about 5 years ago got into retro games and virtual pinball. I even went as far as to build a 3/4 size pinball cabinet with force feedback and arcade buttons, and instead of mechanical parts, it runs off a PC and 3 monitors. With the Quest 3, I am able to hook the headset into my PC, use the cabinet as a controller (flippers, plunger, etc.), and play entirely in VR. It is so immersive and impressive to play in almost 4K with 120hz on a headset. Yes, you need a capable PC, but it's a fantastic experience.
Short of that, there are virtual pinball apps in the Quest store that you can purchase and get a similar immersive experience.
Hooking up the Quest to a PC to play PC games is pretty simple. There are a few options to play wired (with a separate Link cable to be purchased) or wireless with the Oculus AirLink. Both worked well for me in my testing, but I think I will stick with wired connection when I can, just because my wireless connection to my router can be flaky sometimes (where I play VR and where my router is are in different rooms). Being closer to the router would likely make a difference.
Overall, in my testing, I found the Quest 3 to be a huge upgrade over previous generations. I definitely plan to VR more and am excited to explore other worlds in what is really becoming an immersive experience.
Finally, the last thing I will mention is that the controllers are also an upgrade over previous generations. Menus are snappy and you can even simply use your hands and gestures as a controller, which is a great experience.

The Meta Quest 3 is an incredible VR headset. Setup was fast, tracking is very accurate, and the visuals are noticeably sharper than previous generations. Being fully wireless makes a huge difference, and performance is smooth even in more demanding games. It’s comfortable to use and offers a great mix of gaming, apps, and media. Highly recommended for both new and experienced VR users.
We are thrilled to hear that you are enjoying your Meta Quest 3, with the fast setup, immersive gameplay and smooth performance as well as the diverse range of virtual activities on offer.
We hope to hear more from you soon!

Literally the most uncomfortable VR, screen is noticeably better than the Quest 2, but I'd say neither are worth it, the Quest Pro is better but I wouldn't say it's worth the price point

In the box is the headset, USB-C to USB-C charging and data cable and power adapter, two controllers with wrist straps and included AA batteries. There is also a code for the Batman Arkham Shadow game and information for limited warranty and the MetaQuest Plus subscription.
Disclaimer, I am an owner of the first and second generation oculus.
First Impression - The box that the meta quest comes in makes the product seem like it is super heavy but once unboxed, it the meta quest and the accessories are so much lighter. Also, the headset, the controllers are so much smaller.
Comfort - The headset is much more comfortable. The older versions were heavier and felt like you are leaning forward a lot. This version gives you less fatigue because the weight of the headset is more evenly distributed. Also, I have a couple of glasses that I wear that are HUGE and this headset allows you to wear larger frames with ease. Also if you have a lot of hair, you don’t have to tie your hair up as much as the straps are much are much more comfortable as well.
Battery Life - This version of the headset has much better battery life, and a relatively faster charge. Good for a few hours of playtime depending on your game, and of course brightness.
Visual - The augmented reality is less distorted and more in focus. I also enjoyed the gentler movement blur to reduce motion sickness. The accelerometer has definitely improved. (With the previous models, some of the games I played gave me HUGE motion sickness.) The visual is also clearer. Loading times for games are much faster with the added RAM.
Controllers - I impressed with the new controllers. They are much lighter and mold to your hands and it feels more immersive without the shifting weight of the priory attached ring. Also the hand tracking is much better with this newer version.
I would like to add that the Meta Quest Plus subscription is for three months and is included with the purchase of the 128GB and the 512GB. (Great way to test new games for free and or discount with the included subscription.)
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this to friends and family.

Wow, what an upgrade!

We are upgrading from the original Meta Quest to the Quest 3 and what an upgrade! Our account easily loaded to the new Quest 3 and immediately we were downloading the games we already have to the new spacious 512 GB hard drive. The rest of the setup was simple as always with the creation of your boundaries.
The first thing we noticed playing even old games like Angry Birds was the picture quality with the upgraded resolution. The added sharpness to the picture adds even more to the virtual aspects, making you feel like you are in the game.
Now for the mind blowing new feature, the mixed reality. The first demo game of shooting little moving balls while also seeing your living room and blowing holes in your real/virtual wall was amazing. Seeing something drop down through your ceiling is pretty cool too. We only played the demo game but can't wait to see what else the mixed reality features can bring for games.
Another new feature that works well is using your virtual hands instead of the controllers. So far we have only used that feature with Batman but it really seems like the next advance for the future, using hands instead of a controller.
The headset for this model is easily adjustable and goes from my adult head to the kids with a few minor adjustments. The speakers are plenty loud and tapping the side of the headset to go from virtual to reality is a great feature to have instead of taking the headset off to see what's happening around you. Speaking of our kids, besides playing games, they continue to use the new model to run away to virtual reality by watching videos on Youtube.
I have seen the other reviews of people worrying about the lower battery life. Yes it uses the battery faster, but you are now running a more powerful device so its a fair tradeoff. The good news about charging is the connection to charge is USB-C so its a simple cord and not cumbersome.
Overall we are blown away by the upgrade and would suggest anyone else thinking about it to go for it.
