i have never played a metal gear solid game before and i thought i would pick this one up because of all the hype. i went out and bought it expecting to not really enjoy it that much. after plugging it in to the ps3 ifound that it had awesome graphics and a story that drew me into the gameplay. the best part about the game is replay value. i could play this game several timesand not get bored, because of all the medals and extras you can obtain. overall it was a masterpiece of a game and i strongly recommend it to everyone who owns a ps3

First off, notice that I included movies in both pros and cons. This is because there are a LOT of cut scene videos in between gameplay. This is a little bad because it takes a lot of time to watch them, but really trust me, THEY ARE GREAT! It creates the story so well and is intense. The people who wrote this story line deserves a freaking oscar or something!
Graphics are outstanding and gameplay is so fun! This is a must buy for all ps3 owners!
Definitely one of the best games of 2008 or even one of the best ever. :P

Having loved the MGS series this was one of the reasons i got a PS3. And i am very happy that i did being that this is my favorite game so far. A lot of people thought some of the cut sceens were to long but i didn't mind then i thought they were presented to well it kept me in the game wanting to see more. The controles were changed in this version and tooks a little time to get used to but they have come to feel natual now. I can only hope that another game in the series is produce and judging by the sales it should be.

The only reason to buy a PS3

I am really enjoying this game. This was a reason to pick up the PS3. So far, the demos havent shown this system to be spectacular. I still prefer my xbox 360 elite since Halo 3 multiplayer is addictive. But this game makes me respect the PS3. I played Haze and what a disaster. Otherwise, with MGS4, this should be the start of some real next gen titles for the PS3. I am now looking forward to Gears of War 2 for my xbox and then Killzone 2 for my ps3. I am now system neutral. BTW I also have my wii which is a fun system.

Great end for the Series

Ive always loved the MGS series of games so its no suprise to me that I would love this game. Those that are new to the series will be disappointed to see so many cut scenes and how long they are and not enough gameplay. The gameplay is very good considering you can through the game not killing a single person or totally annihiliating everyone you see, its your choice. There just seems to be not enough of it.
The online mode is very basic and if your used to Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3, its very slow so you might not enjoy it as much as you would like.
Overall I love this game and it is definitely recommended in the PS3 library.

Not Kojima's best

I've been playing this series since MGS1 on he PS1. The definitive one to me is still MGS3. It's story was nowhere near as convoluted, it had much better pacing, and the cold war era theme just worked for me.
MGS4 obviously raises the bar fro graphics with the newest iteration, as well as upping the fun you can have with a streamlined control scheme. It still gets so bogged down in it's own universe, though. Everything Kojima needs to wrap up to make up for all the loose ends he had left in the previous games, make you feel like your on a ride that could lead anywhere. Unfortunately, he tends to steer you ( in my opinion) to uneventful happenings and explanations, with characters you thought you were going to have a lot more fun with.
I won't spoil the encounters here for you, but not one of the old allies or enemies left me feeling nastalgic.

Impressive Story/gameplay

Normally I hate playing shooter games on a console, but I will admit this one was one of the rare exceptions. I prefer the PC since I have more control for precision and speed but this game was simply magnificent. It was very easy to aim and shoot quickly while maintaining high graphic detail all around Snake's surroundings and with the PS3's controller, it made it a lot easier. What I loved most about this game is the fact that this has to be the first game of it's kind that allows you to play in a movie-like atmosphere. The best part is, you can skip them if you replay the game in a higher difficulty setting (or any setting for that matter). It has high replay value and watching the movie all over again at least 3x. Another best is that each mob is different-don't cheat on how to kill the bosses, try to find out their weaknesses. I love how the bosses are unique and how to kill them is extremely unique. If you didn't cheat like me, it's really fun trying to figure it out.
The thing that I didn't like was the fact that if you skip the movie scenes, the game is rather short. I wish they would have made the game longer. Also, even though each boss had a unique way of killing them, I wish they had more bosses to play against.
Overall, it's hard not to get into the game and play it more than 3x. I would definitely recommend this game just for the fact it has replay value-something you rarely see these days.

First and foremost, the graphics on this game are amazing. Granted, not the best out there, but still, Konami has stated they used almost the full 50gb worth of space on the blu-ray disc for this game.
Solid Snake returns completely--though old-looking--and is able to do more than ever in his ability and take down baddies, machines and the ever annoying main bosses. With a full arsenal of weapons and gear, including octocamo (a suit that allows you to blend in with your surroundings with amazing accuracy), not to mention help from old friends, Solid Snake is better than ever, and nostalgic moments do take place, making the experience all-the-more sweeter.
The gameplay mechanics are tight and accurate, the graphics, one again, are sensational. The story can be hard to follow if you've never played the other MGS games--which this is my first game out of them all, yet I was able to comprehend all of the information, looking up anything I didn't understand later. Cut scenes can be long and plentiful, and it feels more like a movie than a game at times, which could be a negative trait to some. Some missions are harder than others, and depending on the levels of difficulty (there is one for everyone, so don't feel afraid if you are new to shooters or have never played one).
Badges and Drebin Points--which is like currency to buy weapons, ammo and accessories in the game--are fun, and make this a better experience. Remember, the MGS games are about stealth, and you get more points and far more honorable badges by not killing people and not being noticed.
There is also on-line gameplay which is immensely vast and fun, so if you like on-line gaming, go right on and play it.
I highly recommend this game for anyone, whether a fan of shooters, veteran or a noob. Get it.

From the Mission Briefing to all the Acts the game keeps you on your toes. Game has excellent action. The best audio in a game I've played before. Even the THX games. It really is the only game that puts you in the middle of a battlezone and makes you feel like you are actually in one. I also recommend the Metal Gear Solid 3 pack for the PS2. It contains all 3 previous metal gear game for only 29.99. Good 60 hours of gameplay. If you own a PS3 you need this game.

Another Metal Gear Solid

Lets get one thing straight right off the bat: If you have never played a Metal Gear Solid game then do not buy this. You need to have the background of the previous games in order to really apreciate this game.
I won't lie, I could not get used to the controls. I struggled through this game because at times you have to press 6 buttons just to shoot a gun a certain way. The controls are great for the stealth gameplay, but when you go from stealth to combat then it is very clunky and heavy. For me, the lowest difficulty was a struggle to get through because of the controls. For people who are better at handeling the controller and general control scheme, this isn't an issue. Just be wearned that you will either hate or love this aspect of the game.
Hideo has definetly brought a cinematic feel to the game. I honestly think I enjoyed the game more as I watched another person play it. It's like an interactive movie in many ways and a normal movie in others. This game does something a little bit different from the rest and that ears it points in my book.
I picked up my copy of this game the day it released. It took me months to complete it on my own and many, many hours to watch another (better) person play through it. I had fun with it. I knew what I was getting into when I bought another Metal Gear and I throughly enjoyed the ride. The graphics are wonderful and the humor found in the game is wonderful. You won't find another game quite like Metal Gear Solid 4.
I recomend this to anybody who has played a Metal Gear Solid game before and wants more. If you're a more casual gamer then this may not be the game for you and you'll likely be lost. You get what you pay for in this game, and that is another Metal Gear given to you from Hideo himself.

Hideo Kojima has done it once again bringing a superb tactical spy game to the best gaming system out there! This game utilizes the true hardware capabilities of the PS3 with the cinema-like cut sequences that will blow you away right from the beginning of the game. I can honestly say Metal Gear Solid 4 was one of the main reasons why I had purchased the PS3.

This game is a true classic to a great series. The gameplay is amazing. It is very challenging at certain parts but not hard enough to pass up. It has a definate 'stay' factor. A few movie are a little long if you aren't up to speed with the in depth story. Certain parts definately have a movie feel and drag you in like ive never been a part of gaming wise. If this is your type of game this is a must have ALL the way through.

Doesn't deserve a 10/10, though it still is better than Gears of War: 2. The storyline is interesting, but the actual gameplay itself is boring and the missions are boring.
The online is lagging constantly (no, its not my connection. My connection is 100%), and what's a game these days without online?
If you're a die-hard Metal Gear Solid fan, then I would certainly reccommend it. If you're looking for a good storyline, certainly get it. If you're looking for a game you'll be playing for a long time, don't bother. Buy Modern Warfare, Killzone 2, wait for Modern Warfare 2, or get World at War.

this game is one of the best around. Between the great graphics and and interesting gameplay, along with many other things, i would give this game 3 thumbs up(if i had a 3rd thumb). The story mode is great and the multiplayer is also just as good. Before i got this game i never played a metal gear game in my life!! But now this game makes me want to get the metal gears tht came before it.Overall a 5 stars NO DOUBT.

MGS4, probably the best game out for PS3 at the moment. It has a long story mode with newfeatures like the Drebin store, gun modifications, and others. Alot of throwbacks to others games and it has lots of humor that has always been found in MGS games. It's my personal favorite game and definitely the best in the franchise. If you buy a ps3 u need to get this game due to the fact its probably one of the first games that takes Blu-ray and High Definition to the next level. Best graphics of any console.
A MUST BUY

metal gear solid is a epic game series that anyone could get sucked into.
Since it is the final game in the story line they did a great job leaving a lasting impression on the gamer. though if you have never played a metal gear solid game you will be clueless in the story so I'd recommend you play the other games first, still though this a game not to miss and at the new price of $30 its a definent

First of all, I am not a fan of the Metal Gear series. At first I was a little skeptic about this game, but after playing the introduction I was blown away. The graphics, but above all the sound, are really awesome. I have never played a game before with this sound quality. If you have any doubts about buying this game don’t, I guarantee you won’t be sorry. The online game play is really good too.

even though the cut scenes are lengthy when you do get to play the game it is fun. there are times when you can put the controller down for 20 mins plus, there are some button presses during the scene but i guess they do that so you feel like your interacting. i do really like the metal gear online game. nice sized maps, lots of hiding it is alot of fun. the only objection is i was/am being disconnected alot, don't know if it's the servers or my connection. all in all it's a good game and probably one of the best for the ps3 right now.
