I haven't played a Metal Gear titles since Snake Eater but man, MGS V is a fantastic, fun return. The game is just as crazy as ever. Right from the get go, you are placed in a bizare world with equally insane/unreal characters. In terms of graphics, it is truly a beautiful game. The closed quarters of the intro weren't as impressive, but when the game takes off to the open world, it's simply gorgeous. Some of the scenes were photo realistic. I'm only a few Acts in, but the pacing has been intense. It is stealth action at it's best. You really need to take your time and scout out each enemy area before taking action. I love that getting spotted is not a guarateed check point restart. You still have time to react before all hell breaks loose. The storyline is wacky, but I think if you are able to hang onto the thread of what's happening, the action will really carry this title.

This game is different than previous series titles. It has a vast open world and a mother base to return too. Great gameplay, non linear, and lots of story gaps from the past are filled. Only complaint is all the audio tapes that need listening.

MGS 5: The Phantom Pain offers traditional elements of the MGS franchise, while sprinkling in a flair of Far Cry's open world element. With the amount of interesting missions (and side missions) you can expect to get 45-60 hours of game play out of this title depending on your degree of involvement. I am one who rarely is interested by side missions, however, these are all missions that advance the efficiency of Big Boss or the team itself... and they are actually interesting. After my initial three hours of playtime, I was only at 2% completion which makes a consumer feel like they actually got a product that is worth spending upward of 50-60 dollars for. Great game all around and the stealth element doesn't leave you bored or with a desire to rush a mission. It is an enjoyable experience that allows you to also unleash havoc.

Wow! I knew Kojima was making a good game with this one, but wow was I surprised at how awesome it is. This game has a lot of the same elements as Metal Gear Peacewalker that came out on PSP several years ago, just 10 times better. Sprawling open world with plenty of places to hide and plot out your attacks. You can play this game stealthy or run and gun and take everything out. You make your own rules. I haven't completed the game entirely yet, but i would have paid full price for what I have played. This gamehas a lot of main missions and side missions you can do in however order you like then try them again to find other items or better ways to complete it. If all that wasn't enough a multiplayer layer was just added this is addictive as well. I haven't put too many hours in that, once I have I'll add to my review.

Best MSG game you didn't know you wanted

This is a great open world game but it's not the MSG solid game you would expect. The recon and material/personnel gathering makes it more like MGS: Peace Walker rather than the old console titles. If you lile peace walkwr then you will definitely love this game. This game is lacking the boss battles the franchise is known for but the gameplay is done so well that it's still one of the most enjoyable games that I played. The customization is so deep that you can literally play this game for a long time and still discover new things you can do. If you are on the fence about buying it and loved the main MGS games you might find that the story is a bit slow and the lack of boss battles might be a deal breaker. However, to get the full story of the franchise it's a must play.

A great, but odd, MGS game

This game is baffling to me. It is NOT a typical Metal Gear Solid title (which could be taken as a good thing, since it is trying something new), and the narrative takes a back seat to gameplay (when compared to previous titles in the series). Yet, I can't stop playing the game. The gameplay is so good, and the story compelling enough, that I just keep playing. Which, by the way, there is a ton of gameplay to be had. Sure, there are repetitive missions, but it is all still so enjoyable because of the core gameplay mechanics. I highly recommend this title, but beware MGS fans: this isn't your typical MGS game.

This is the perfect balance between classic gameplay we all know and love, and innovation of game mechanics we have come to expect. Konami did an excellent job with the highly raised bar after MGS4. Any fan of the series will be right at home. Sutherland replaces David as the voice actor for Snake, and does a good job. The missing voice of David is sorely missed, but Kiefer does a decent job. This is a giant game, openworld, stealth/combat is completely up to you. And weapon/base upgrades are awesome and rewarding to get. If you are new to the series, its not the best starting game but in a few hours you could get used to the controls. If this is your first game do yourself a favor and try to play the older ones, it will help with the story.

After playing the last Metal Gear which was a great ending to the series I was a little leery of another game. But I've really enjoyed the previous games so I kept an open mind on this one. So far I'm about 25% done and it's a fun game. It can be a bit repetitive though. You basically just go on missions and capture or rescue people trying not to be seen the whole time. Not being spotted is VERY difficult in the beginning but gets easier once you can bring along buddies like the dog or Quiet as they will help to spot enemies for you. The game mechanics are pretty intricate as you can do things like leave your horse or a jeep in the middle of the road if you are trying to capture a target that is in a moving vehicle. The NPC's will actually stop and try to deal with the road obstruction. It can be pretty funny watching what they do. So far I would call this game good but not great. I don't think it is as good as Guns of the Patriots as that game was completely epic, (I still think about the boss battles in that game), but it is fun.

Metal Gear Solid is packed with features, with some really exciting elements that I think gamers who favor the stealth, action genres should experience. These are some of the best mechanics I've ever seen in a TPS. The game is very hard, and stealth is the name of the game for any perfectionist, though the game can be played in action style, albeit with a score penalty.

Metal Gear Solid V strikes a new realm of flexibility for players to enjoy. Players choose how they want to finish objectives. For example, a player can stealthily pick off enemies one by one with sleep darts, go in "guns a blazing", plant C4 to knock out communications, send in air support, or avoid encounters altogether. This freedom of choice is what makes this game great. The only thing that detracts from this game is the humongous size of the maps and the objectives become a little bit repetitive. *Ratings out of 10 Graphics:10 Story: 9 Creativity: 10 Freedom: 10

For fans of Metal Gear Solid, like myself, I can confidently say that this is the most satisfying installment of the series yet. The game looks incredible and plays fluidly, perfectly refining the gunplay from previous games in the series. The cutscenes, open world gameplay, and music immerse you seamlessly into the world of espionage and stealth action. For those who aren't fans of stealth based gameplay, the game can also be played guns blazing. It's worth mentioning that the Mother Base managing system from Peace Walker is present and much more defined in this game, however, even if you weren't a fan of that mechanic, I still strongly recommend checking this game out.

MGS5 is one of the best, if not the best stealth game, you can buy. Not only that, but it works equally well as a shooter. Every area is a true exploration of your freedom as a player. You can do almost anything you'd like and there are limitless avenues to reaching victory. The gameplay is pitch perfect. The controls have incredible pinpoint precision that just makes you feel good as you play. Its big. bold. confident in its delivery, and allows some insane customization. The second half dampens the pace a bit. but the fact that the gameplay alone carries you through some of the more tedious parts is a testament to how well this game is made. Buy this.

I've played most of the Metal Gear games that have come out, I loved the first one and kind of drifted away from the series after two. Metal Gear Solid 5 takes a bold step away from overly long cutscenes and instead focuses on an open world, which I love. The story can be sparse (listen to all cassette tapes to get more story), but you have such a blast rolling around the map taking out outposts with a buddy, that you will have a hard time putting it down. Missions can take about 30 minutes to 1 hour and there are over 40 missions (not including side ops). Definite buy if you like the core gameplay of Metal Gear and want something to occupy you for a long time.

It is a great and fun Metal Gear game. It is visually beautiful. The combat is very fun. The AI can be pretty clueless at times and the difficulty can be seemingly easy. Although it does not take away from this experience. The story is interesting enough and the online mode is fun. I recommended this game to any Metal Gear fans in doubt.

As a disclaimer I have been a previous fan of the MGS series. However I have always knocked the games for their clunky controls and moderately confusing gameplay. The story has always been the selling point for me. This game however has some of the smoothest gameplay and well thought out open world based missions of any game ever. Period. In terms of just exploring the world, I don't see that being much fun. Parts of the map feel repetitive. However I think the point is to just connect where the missions are and give you more freedom in how you approach each area. If you want an in depth stealth action game this is the game for you.

    Kojima's Masterpiece

Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is graphically astounding, nearly flawlessly controlled and just plainly a monster of a game. The player controls Big Boss, a US super soldier in the 1980's hell bent on tracking down an enemy unit called Cipher who tried to kill him ten years ago, but failed, leaving our hero in a coma. Endless customization, incredible characters and voice acting, deep, satisfying stealth based combat system, and forcing the player to be creative are highlights in this title. the story may be a bit convoluted and confusing for newcomers to the series, but this game is still worth every second of your time,

    So conflicted

Okay, lets get this part out of the way... this game is a really well done, open world game. Just about every aspect is done in a well paced and entertaining way. So as a game, its really good. However, as a Metal Gear game, its awful. Side missions are essential, and fun at first, but can get a little stale after a while. You need to complete them to get money to upgrade your base, which is a really cool new feature. The problem is at some point you need to do a lot of them in a row, and that takes you away from the main story too much. You start to become less and less interested in the main story since you have to jump out of it so frequently. As insane and mostly incomprehensible as the Metal Gear story is, it was always a wild and fun ride that was great to focus on. This new game has me conflicted. I really do like it, i just miss the Metal Gear feel that is seems to have lost.

Fantastic continuation of the Metal Gear Solid series. The new open world game play is very different from the original play mode, but it only adds to the experience of the game. If anything, MGSV will provide far more hours of effort/play if you opt to complete all Side Ops missions. You can definitely notice as you progress through the game when Kojima and Konami had a falling out. The quality of the story/game starts to degrade slightly... not enough to prevent this game from earning 5 stars. But sadly, the departure of Kojima from Konami means there is likely not going to be a Metal Gear Solid VI to follow.

Really fun gameplay. You can brute force your way through the game if you want or play more stealthy like other MGS games. Stealth gameplay is extremely well done and the amount of detail is surprisingly high for a semi-open world game. Plus it has a ton of content, though a good chunk of it is pretty repetitive I'm still having fun playing through it. In my save I want to 100% the game and am currently at around 30% with 100 hours in, though I do take my time and thoroughly explore so I expect most people will get to this percentage quicker. Definitely worth a buy for me, as a stealth action game and as a MGS game.
