Metallica (commonly known as The Black Album) is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica. Released on August 12, 1991 by Elektra Records, it received widespread critical acclaim and became the band's best-selling album. Metallica produced five singles that are considered to be among the band's best-known songs, which include "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Wherever I May Roam", and "Sad but True". The album marked a change in the band's sound from the thrash metal style of the previous four albums to a slower and heavier one rooted in heavy metal. The album debuted at number one in ten countries and spent four consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, making it Metallica's first album to top album charts. Don't miss it.

Love it through and through my favorite Metallica CD of all time

This is the easiest Metallica CD to buy because they changed their approach and made some more radio-friendly music. It was the right album for them at the right time, as it jettisoned them into the mainstream pop culture. It probably was the reason that they survived Grunge, too. Why, then, did it take me over 25 years to buy this CD? I guess I was just waiting for the right time. I didn't want to be a bandwagon fan. Haha! By now, we've all heard almost every song on this disc, so there's not much to say. It's also sold 25 Million copies! (25,000,001 now that I bought mine.) I think that should about do it for this review. Now go bang your head somewhere!!

While this was a strong album, Bob Rock ruined the band with this one. He meddled too much and poisoned the band's own methods which had worked well for the past 4 releases. Anyway, I only like the closet songs on here since radio killed all the popular ones for me that I can't stand to hear much ever. The God that Failed is likely the strongest tune on here to me, and Through the Never is well done too. The 5 that the radio killed need no mention, Of Wolf and Man makes little sense to me and just doesn't fit the rest of em. Sadly after this release, the band just chit the bed and hasn't ever recovered to me.

"Metallica" or more commonly known as "The Black Album" is almost, on its own, a collection of the band's greatest "mainstream" hits. Yes, Metallica's other albums are incredible, and in the eyes of many, including myself, better than the Black Album. But, there is no bad track on this album. From start to finish, it is fantastic. This album represents why people used to buy an entire album, rather than just downloading two or three songs off of itunes, like many people do now. This is actually a copy to replace my original, which I have digitally, but the physical copy was ruined, so I bought it again.

While it's argued that 'Master of Puppets' is the best album Metallica recorded, no one can argue that their self-titled album, commonly referred to as 'The Black Album', will be the release that they are remembered for. With mega hits like "Enter Sandman", "Wherever I May Roam", "Nothing Else Matters" and "The Unforgiven", this is an outstanding album in a long career of one of the most influential and popular metal bands. Such a great album with all songs very memorable and always fantastic.

Metallica BLACK Album! PERIOD. This Album has gone down as the Greatest Metallica Album of their Career so far! And boy you will NOT be disappointed!! All they would have to do is add a few songs from each of their other Albums to this ENTIRE Album and it could be one of the best "Greatest HITS" Albums of ALL-TIME! You could not have a complete METAL-library without The Metallica BLACK ALBUM!

Yea I said it. I love the first album, ride the lightening is probably one of the best heavy metal albums ever followed by master of puppets. But this, yes their most commercially explosive album is their best. From the music to the lyrics which lets face it is explosive. Don't ask yourself why this is their best selling album, just purchase it, sit down and enjoy the ride

I bought the Metallic Cg for my husband - it would not be fair for me to comment however it was a Birthday gift for him from our grandchildren - he said he loved it and it is one of the best CD's Metallic has ever put out. As far as for me - I shop at Best Buy a lot and they are always helpful and for the most part I can usually find what I am looking for at Best Buy!

I am not a huge Metallica fan although I have known of their music for many years. When I came across this cd, I noticed that it had songs that I have repeatedly heard played on the radio over the years and come to like. As CDs are becoming harder to obtain I decided to get this for my collection.

A classic Metallica album. It's the one that made them really break into the mainstream. It's not my favorite album but it definitely deserves a lot of respect. This is one of Metallica's biggest albums and is one of those albums that you can listen to front to back.

This album exemplifies metal. I first listened to it when I was a teenager, and my appreciation for it has only grown. I have no doubt that my children, their future children, their future children, etc will continue to listen to the songs on this album, and will keep on rocking!

My mom picked out some old school music for me and while she sometimes gets some duds, this one was great! I can't believe I haven't really "heard" these songs before but now that I have, it seems like some of these songs are still really played a lot being so old.

What can one say about this album? If you're reading this, then you've either never heard of Metallica or didn't grow up in the 80s. If you like 80s metal, buy this. Before corporations own celebrities and musicians, they let them make a few albums that rock. This is one of Metallica's.

Metallica Metallica or Metallica Black as it is also known is arguably their best album. Personally for me it is the album that started my love for Metallica. It is one of those CDs you can put on and listen to every single track considering there isn't a bad one in the bunch.

This is probably the 5th copy of this cd that I have bought since it's release in '91. I either completely wore them out with scratches, or left it in a car that I sold, but keep coming back for more. It's an awesome album - every song rocks. Must get my mandatory dose of Metallica!!

I had to rebuild my Metallica collection after my car was stolen with all my cds in it...This CD still stands the test of time and reminds me why I got into this band in the first place. Heavy, strong, and I don't care what the "purists" say; I LIKE the more "mainstream" sound!

Best metallica ever! Had this black album stolen out of my miata 25 years ago. They brought all my cds they stole to a CD store, yes they had those back in the 90s. And the only one they didn't sell back was the black album! So happy to have it again!

My husband and I love this album. We were not Metallica fans before, but heard a couple on the radio that we loved, so I bought this album since those songs were on there. You won't be disappointed!

I bought this cd for the song Enter Sandman, which was Mariano Rivera’s theme song that was played whenever he came out of the bullpen to save the game at Yankee stadium.
