Ok, to give the proper review of this game. People should know a little about the original version on the Game Boy. Back in 1991 when this came out originally. It was revolutionary then for it's game play and style. This latest version is even better and gives that full nostalgic feeling of the original. You'll hear hints of the original music as you play and it's highly recommended playing this game with headphones and in the dark when possible. I don't want to give too much away but if you're familiar with the original map layout. You will have a slight advantage since certain key items and locations are in the same areas. This game is a remake so it shouldn't be too critical when it comes to similarities of the original Metroid II. A must have for old school fans and new!

An absolute blast to play. This game harkens back to Super Metroid whilst incorporating the modern mechanics found in Zero Mission. Faithful to the original Metroid II story, with a few twists. New abilities are fun and lead to a variety of gameplay and puzzle solving options. If you're a Metroid or Nintendo fan, it's a must play.

There is no exaggeration in stating that this is one of the best games available in the 3ds library. Despite being new, it is already a classic and a must buy. It does not follow the conventional metroid formula to perfection, but does it just enough that it awakens your nostalgia. Very good game and deserves all the praise.

This is a great game for the 3ds that just seems to keep chugging along with new games. Samus returns is a remake of Metroid 2 however, Nintendo pretty much made an entirely different game and updated it to 2017 3ds expectations. It is a quick play taking less than 20 hours to finish however, I loved every minute of it.

I love Metroid games but always struggle with getting lost or dying and losing too much progress. This game is a modern take on the series and is a lot less frustrating to play. It helps you know where to go so you don't get lost, but you do not have to use those features if you prefer a harder experience.

I loved METROID 2 the day it came out on my old Game Boy and I am telling you this is the best remake out there period! Nintendo does these far and few between and the 3D is immaculate! Also includes a sountrack from all Metroid games in this edition. You won't regret this purchase.

This is an awesome remake of the classic Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Nintendo Game Boy, except it has a few new twists and enhancements that make this game an entirely new game from the classic game!! Definitely recommend Metroid: Samus Returns 3DS to anyone that is a fan of the older style games and a fan of the Metroid series! The special edition especially is awesome since it comes with a selective soundtrack featuring different tracks from all the Metroid games, not just the Samus Returns game! It's also pretty sweet that it comes with a bigger box that holds the soundtrack and the game!

As a lifelong Metroid fan I had to get the special edition even though I'd probably never listen to the CD. Excellent remake of an excellent game. Can't go wrong with a side scrolling Metroid game.
I only wish we had gotten the European special edition...

I never played the original Samus Returns for Game Boy, but this game is awesome. I played a 100% playthrough in about 13 hours with deep exploration and backtracking. The game is definitely worth the price and lives up to the Metroid name.

As a huge fan of Samus I had to get the collectors edition of this game. Love the box it came in and the reversable 3DS cover is such a nice touch. It also comes with the Soundtrack, which I love to listen to when I'm writing.

Having heard about the metroid franchise repeatedly referred to as one of the best platformers of all time, I was very excited to start this game. I had never played a metroid game before but I have played other metroidvanias such as Hollow Knight and Guacamelee. This game goes up there with those two easily in terms of mechanics and control. The bosses are extremely difficult and rewarding. The only thing I found lacking in this game was the story. The game chooses to use environmental devices to tell story with the only dialouge in the game happening in the first 2 minutes. I understand that this game is set between Metroid for the NES and Super Metroid for SNES and that this was a Game Boy game originally, but the lack of story and importance of this entry of the series shows. I enjoyed the game, but I want more story so I will be looking to play bigger entries in the series for more plot. Overall, I recommend this game for those who have a 3DS and want a game with a good challenge. In the end, you find yourself where I am, looking for Metroid games to play. Not a bad position to be in.

A remake of Metroid II for the gameboy, Samus Returns is an absolute gem. If you're a fan of the old school Metroid games, do yourself a favor and lose some evenings to this crawling side scrolling game.

I remember when I got the original Metroid II for the Gameboy way back when. This game is a great throwback with some nice quality of life improvements. It's a faithful recreation and gets things just right. The 3D looks great and difficulty ramps up appropriately. It can get a bit repetitive at points, but honestly, what game doesn't. Overall, this is a fantastic game and highly recommend to anyone. It's a great entry to the Metroid series as well.

This game is great. I hesitate to call it a remake, more of a reimagining of Metroid 2. Everything in the game is solid, and just what you'd expect if you played games like Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Fusion, or even Metroid Prime. They added some new things (to 2D) like 360 aiming and new abilities that keep it fresh. But in the end it's good classic Metroid, couldn't ask for anything more. Well, maybe a Switch port would be nice.

Metroid: Samus Returns is an easy recommendation and you can’t go wrong with this in your 3DS library. The team put a lot of work into polishing this remake and it shows.
