I bought one for my wife and one for my mother in law. Returned the one for my mother in law as it would be difficult for her to learn. Windows 8 is difficult to learn if you have been accustomed to XP for years,
My wife loves it, though. I is quick and responsive. Screen is nice and it comes preloaded with MS office which a good value.
The tablet is solidly constructed...maybe a little heavier than expected. It is cheaper than an ipad as well.

Great Device If You Know What Your Getting

This is an excellent device, as long as you go into the purchase and use knowing that this is NOT a full version of Windows 8 like you may have on your desktop PC.
I purchased this device when Best Buy put it on special for the holidays. I have wanted to add a Windows device to go along with my Android cell and iPad2 tablet, but the prices were just too steep.
I went into the purchase knowing that the RT is the Android/IOS of the Windows world, meaning that it is coded for a mobile CPU (in this case the ARM architecture), so you can't just go buy software at a store and install it on the RT. You have to rely on people coding apps and putting them in the MS Store that you access from the device. The selection is good, but there isn't the depth of apps like you may find on the Google or Apple store.
The battery life is excellent though. On standby it can go for more than a week with lite usage during that time. I haven't done many tests for different battery life/usage scenarios at this point though.
I can open and edit any of the MS Office documents that I use on my desktop PC, and the performance is pretty snappy. This was one of the big reasons that I purchased it when the price dropped.
One of the other BIG pluses is that it has full size USB port on the outside, as well as a standard mini-HDMI port. I used a generic Radio Shack HDMI adapter to connect it to my TV and it worked fine. It's bluetooth capabilities are easy to use, although so far I have just paired a bluetooth keyboard to it.
All in all, since I went into this knowing the limitations of the device, I have been extremely happy with it and would recommend it to anyone.

I mainly bought this tablet for typing up my school work since you can buy a nice detachable tactile feedback keyboard (which I haven't bought yet) and I figure it's a decent size instead of lugging around a laptop. The size of the screen is just about right to be able to watch movies on Netflix or read an e-comic. The sound quality is quite good also, since there are a total of 4 speakers on it (1 on each side and 2 on top). If you're an "appaholic" or coming from the Apple bandwagon then this tablet is NOT for you. Microsoft's app market is very dry and most decent apps cost more than $1. This tablet is only good for surfing the web and typing up reports using Office apps that come pre-installed.

Overall happy with the surface rt. If you don't mind spending a little more get the 64 gig. Screen is nice and clear. No where near as many apps as android but hopefully more in future.Battery seems very good.Usb port is a plus.Micro sd card can be added for more storage.Screen sometimes dims on its own. Not sure why.Went online seems to be common with this tablet.

It's certainly light enough to carry anywhere. The screen is large enough to really be usable. The touch screen capability is wonderful. I am still getting used to Windows 8 and am not sure I like it yet. But that's the new OS so I have to live with it. But overall I really love this little computer.

I've had my Surface RT for a month now. To get the big problem out of the way first: there are not enough apps for Windows RT yet. Staples of the Android and iOS stores are missing. This is the developers' fault, not Microsoft's, but it needs to be pointed out. However, there are a lot of things Surface RT can do out of the box that my old Android tablet couldn't. Being able to run a full version of Office is a huge plus - productivity suites on other tablet operating systems just don't match up. The full-size USB port is extremely handy, and every peripheral I've tried works immediately. Connecting to an external display and running a dual-screen setup for presentations and the like is a breeze. Also, the build quality is among the best I've ever seen. Overall I'm extremely happy, though I do think the device was a bit overpriced.

All and all I love my surface. It's light, portable, and about as thin as a spiral notebook. It's very easy to use and I like that you can use "apps" or the desk top... it's great for playing and I love that I can do school and work on it with a full version of Microsoft word and excel.

This is an excellent tablet and fun to use. It is lightweight, has a long battery life, and you can add any apps and arrange them on your screen the way you like. I love the touchscreen and it works great with the apps like the iphone. The BEST is that it already comes loaded with word, excel, PowerPoint and it is the only tablet that you can use a USB. I can work on my school presentations with ease. I LOVE IT!!! I have used the ipad (which is just a giant iphone without the phone) and other tablets, but this is such a great tablet and inexpensive. I was able to dictate an entire Powerpoint presentation and it was 98% correct. How exciting!

Good battery life, very small and portable, touch screen works very well. Microsoft keyboard is a must. Doesn't have tons of memory or power, but good for web browsing and movies on the go, while capable of accessing and editing documents like spreadsheets, powerpoints, PDF's.

I bought this lovely device on Black Friday for $200!! Such. Steal!! I take it to my college with ease! It's so light and a perfect size to just crack open and start taking notes! One note is AWESOME!! And to print, you literally just slide your finger from the side and there's your printer!! friends of mine aren't a fan of windows 8, but on a tablet, it's pretty easy and fun to navigate with. In all this has made my note taking life and lounging on the couch life so wonderful!!

I love that I can use this like a computer, as I also bought the keyboard, but it's so much lighter and easy to travel with than my other laptop. It has a desktop and the ability to have many windows or apps open at once, and I love that it has a USB port. The worst part is that you can't download programs unless there is an app for it - and the store is really lacking in apps.. i.e. no app for google chrome, no way to use itunes or get anything off your ipod... etc. Hopefully they keep growing the store... Overall I love it!

I looked at several competitive tablets and found that this was right for me. I use it primarily for pleasure but I do sometimes use it for work. Big enough to easily read the screen and small enough to fit in my larger purse. Reasonably lightweight. I am getting use to Windows 8 but it has some wonderful features. I haven't used it to transfer data from the Surface to my laptop, but I assume that it will be relatively easy to do. I purchased the accessory keyboard that it more like a laptop keyboard. For me, it was a necessity as I didn't like the feel of the so called padded keyboard that is available. Keyboard easily attaches magnetically to the Surface and can be used as the cover to protect the screen. The charger cord is magnetic so you don't have to worry about it being 'plugged in' and ruining the tablet receptacle

The good: The Microsoft Surface's Metro interface is innovative, elegant, powerful, and versatile. The tablet feels strong and well-built, runs Office 2013, and includes rich video and music services. Its keyboard cover accessories are the best ways to type on a tablet, period & has a external keyboard.
The bad: The tablet's performance can be sluggish, its Windows Store is lacking, Metro takes getting used to, and the Desktop interface feels clunky and useless. Must have a keyboard for accurate functionality ..windows 8.0 takes alot of getting use to.
The bottom line: If you're an early adopter willing to forget everything you know about navigating a computer, the Surface tablet could replace your laptop. Everyone else: wait for more apps

I wanted a computer to take with me every day to work. My hours are 12 hour shifts and I didn’t want to worry that when I used the computer it might run out of battery life. Now, when it gets slow, I could get some work done on the computer and I know I will be able to use it later as many times as I need. I also didn’t want to be carrying around 5 or 6 pounds of weight or lug around something bulky. Surface is so lightweight, so pretty, so long lasting and classy. I am very happy with it. This tablet is also big enough for writers to get their work done while being so convenient to carry. Now, if I could just do all the writing I purchased it for and not cruise the internet so much I will be accomplishing something too!

The Microsoft tablet is very easy to use. The screen is crystal clear and it is very easy to navigate. A big PLUS for me is that the Microsoft tablet is lightweight and comfortable to hold. I am a college student and this tablet is perfect to use in class while taking notes. So far I have been very pleased with my Microsoft - Surface RT with 32GB Memory. I have and will continue to recommend the Microsoft - Surface RT with 32GB Memory to all of my friends and family.

I purchased this PC for my wife's birthday. Overall she finds it easy to use. We have yet to connect this PC to the work network via citrix because the RT operating system does not support java. The preinstalled email program is not very flashy, but it works. The size and weight are great. The additional keyboard makes it easy to use.

I chose this tablet mainly for school work. If you're a college student and you dont want to carry a netbook or your bulky laptop around, I would suggest this. This tablet, if purchased with touch keyboard, is very convenient and remains thin. I believe this is the only licenced Microsoft Office of Word, Powerpoint, OneNote, and Excel in a tablet. This was one of the main reasons why I purchased this item. I want to be able to do my work anywhere I go in a thin tablet that does not look awkward. The only thing I do not like about this is the windows store. It cannot compare to the google store, but this is intended for classwork anyway. Overall, this is a good tablet and I am happy with my purchase. It is very durable and does not look cheap.

I like it more every day.
It was a little hard to understand all the little ways that you need to know to use the unit to its potential. So an included manual would have been very helpful. But the manual is online and after reading it, it makes it a lot easier to use.
I don't notice a difference in the battery life between just turning the display off, or going into sleep mode. It may be because I have turned off the auto updates for most of the programs that run in the background.
About the only thing I have constantly running are my e-mail and the weather. So when I turn the Surface screen off, the battery in standby is good for several days!
I also thing the charger is a little clumsy when you plug it into the Surface. It's at a weird angle, but when you match it up correctly it kind of magnetically snaps in place. And I do love that there is a tiny charging light on the end of it that comes on to tell you that you are charging.
Even though there are not all the apps out there that run on the RT system, it's nice to be able to just use the internet to do what I want.
I use the Wells Fargo Banking app on my phone, but RT doesn't have one yet. So I just log on to the web and and use the banking program just like my desktop.
All in all I am very satisfied with this tablet. I use it way more than I expected!

- great looking screen
- easy to use OS
- app store growing and getting better
- full USB support
- keyboard attachment is awesome
- MS office included as other office apps
all in all its a great tablet for the price I got it for on BF. there are other great tablets out there too like the Asus t100...was going to get a chromebook but BF came and sold this for $200 and less at other stores.
also update immediately to 8.1 which is night and day compared to 8.
