Nice Tablet

More than just a tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very pleased with the Surface. I use it for web surfacing, watching videos, recipes, and some school work. It does most everything I need from a laptop (I.e. I don't construct documents like I would on a laptop or desktop, although that is possible), and more so than any iPad I've used. It makes me question why anyone would buy any other tablet that is strictly limited to its apps available (e.g., iPads, Droid tablets, kindle, etc.). This was the only tablet available that allowed me to watch my online lectures on. It has adobe flash. And it allows me to easy transfer files from my other computers via home group networking, or thumb drives.

light & compact
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The start up manual is convenient and easy to use. Built in stand is attractive Its good to have it for travelling & entertainment but not so much on doing school/business work as the surface screen is too small for projects assignment.In-built keyboard took up half the size of the surface. Overall price is not competitive as it doesn't come with external key-board & stylus

Tablet packs a punch
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a tablet it is very open on what you can do with it. Not only does it have the Windows 8/8.1 interface but it does have a desktop mode. Which is basically what a pc/laptop desktop would be. You can plug in a mouse if you'd like and use it pretty much as a mini laptop. can handle several apps open at once and switching between them is smooth with no lag at all. Screen is ultra responsive not slow or sluggish at all. I got this model for black friday for 200. Perfect price for it. If you go for the 64gb model or a pro 2 you will have something that is on top of the tablet world at a way better price than any apple product would offer.

Surface tablet is the best companion Device.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am writing this review in response to all of the negative press that Surface is getting. It's gotten so bad that I am not reading blogs that say that the reviews on the best buy websites are fake because the surface is getting such high ratings... really? This review is coming from a Android/IOS user. I currently have the 3rd generation Ipad and Asus Transformer w/ Dock. Build This tablet is built really well. The VaporMag case is sturdy and feels very similar to the Ipad case. There are no flexes anywhere. The tablet is heavier than the Ipad according to the specs sheet, but you seriously can't feel the difference. The screen is an inch longer than the Ipad 2(diagonal). The thickness is exactly the same. The built in kickstand is awesome! It's sturdy and it does not rattle when not in use. The USB port has accepted all the mouse, keyboards and other USB items i've plugged into it. Display I am used to my Ipad 3's resolution, so I can tell that some sites have pixellation and all that, but reading text is not a problem. I have a 15.6 inch laptop with the same screen resolution as the 10.6 inch screen of the Surface. So comparing the two, the surface is HD like. Wathing movies works really well, actually better than my Ipad because there are less black borders on the top and bottom screens. Like any touch screen, it picks up finger prints. I am not going to put screen protector because this is Gorilla Glass. Sound Two speakers on this thing, spreads out the sound nicely. However the speakers are not as loud as the Ipad 3. But it doesn't mean that it can't play music or movies. Don't believe reviews that say its too quiet you can't hear it in a quiet room. Those users are obviously loosing their hearing already. Performance NO LAG!!! I've seen videos on youtube, where people load up all the apps and it makes the surface stutter. Especially when playing games like Cut The Rope. In those videos there are dropped frame rates, but these guys need to update their tablets. I updated my tablet and it's smooth. Granted, it's not as smooth as my Ipad 3, but with more updates this thing will fly. Apps I've had this tablet for a month now. When I first got the tablet there were only 6000 or so apps. A month later and there is now over 20000 apps. There are apps like dropbox and dedicated youtube app that are missing. Drop box is coming and there are alternative youtube apps but doesn't have full functionality for example: filtering for content based on upload date/time. Eventually there will be more apps and I am really liking the Metro themed apps. Desktop Mode/ Legacy Apps There is desktop mode, and this is basically Windows 7 except for two major differences. There is no start button and you can't run legacy apps. This is where the productivity apps live as well as the desktop version of Internet Explorer. Legacy apps are programs that are not found in the Windows Store. So for example you can't install the Chrome Browser or full version of Photoshop because it is not compatible. This is the aspect of the tablet that seems to turn people off. First things are not optimized for touch and two people probably have programs that they really need. I think the desktop mode is useful for people who like to mess with their settings. As for the inability to run legacy apps. What tablet right now is able to run legacy apps? My Ipad can't run the full version of pages or any other OSX programs. Android has always been a mobile platform and doesn't have legacy apps. For people complaining about these things, its a tablet not a full computer. Most people who have tablets probably have a main computer. The surface is a good companion. If you do prefer a full computer, don't buy this product. Buy the surface pro or an ultrabook. In some ways this is Microsoft fault for not making a clear case between RT and Pro. Conclusion I have a stand alone computer and this is the best tablet companion for my needs. I can do office productivity + any thing that I used to do with my Android Tablet or the Ipad. The screen is lower resolution but thats not really an issue. There are a lack of apps and some slight performance issues, but that will get fixed eventually. I hope this helps. PS. This is not a fake review =P

Great Tablet and Windows RT is not bad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this tablet because of a great thanksgiving deal and I have been surprised by how good it is. I was very worried about the Windows RT operating system. Instead, I have found that while there are a few things it cannot run, it does almost everything I need it to. I find it superior to both Android and IOS for the tasks I need. It may have slightly fewer games but it runs flash well and the full version of Office that comes included is far better than anything available on other tablets. I currently own a Galaxy Note, an Ipad 3, a Dell Venue Pro with Windows 8.1 and numerous other devices and I strongly recommend the Surface.
