1st tablet I've owned. Love it!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time owner of a tablet. Looked at a lot of other tablets before I decided on the Surface. Picture quality is amazing and so far I've been able to learn something new almost every day. I've transferred files from my laptop, so I can work, while away from home and not have to carry a big laptop case. The ease of use is very good. Still have a little trouble with the keyboard, but that is only a matter of time until I start to feel more comfortable with it.

Great tablet for class!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this tablet specifically for my graduate classes because I didn't want to carry my laptop back and forth. The lighter weight definitely improves my commuting experience. One feature that definitely comes in handy is the USB port since this is something that is not available on all tablets. So, with the lightweight construction and the ability to still save my work on flash drives, I definitely recommend this to anyone who is mobile and needs a lightweight computer.

Great small computer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this small computer to travel in Europe for 5 weeks primarily to upload pictures, check email, and keep track of finances. My wife and I were also able to upload pictures of our trip to Facebook for our friends to view along the way. We used it every day and except for a couple of times when we were in a remote area of Scotland where WiFi was poor we could not get online. Simply love the size and ease of operation.

Great Computer/Tablet for the Price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: The Surface is a great purchase for the price. It is similar to a tablet in weight and size, but it has the conveniences of a computer, such as Microsoft Office. Cons: I do not like is the stand. You have to have a hard, flat surface. It would be easier to use with a keyboard on the go if there was an easier way to make it prop up on uneven surfaces. There is also a lack of your typical "tablet" apps available.

Great for college students
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a Christmas gift. My daughter used to carry a full sized computer to classes everyday and now she will not have to. She will be able to lighten her load with the nice size and ability of having the windows office products on this small, light weight Surface computer . She will be able to take notes on a flash drive at school and then transfer them to her laptop at home each night.

Son likes apps/touch/portable.Window8 NOT intuitiv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate it because it takes too much work to relearn everything I already know how to do from a laptop, My son likes it for easy apps, portability, touch screen. Microsoft office already loaded, probably because it is too darn hard for the average user to do it himself.

Awesome for sale price of $199
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was perfect for the price. This is a great blend between a full computer and her iPhone in class. So far it has run everything she has needed to interact with her teachers and classmates with a larger touch screen. Light weight and highly portable. I bought a Lenk bluetooth keyboard and portfolio case for $40 instead of the expensive Microsoft ones and saved money yet adding to function and value. I wouldn't have considered it without the Microsoft Office and free Windows Defender as that was a final selling point from other devices or android operating systems I compared.

Productive, Fun, and Different - All in One
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't understand all of the negativity around the wonderful machine and experience known as the Surface RT. I've had it a few weeks now (after the price break) and I simply love it and it's built in kick stand. What's more, it's tough; it doesn't need fancy covers and other things I needed with my iPad. Lastly, I love it enough that it motivated me to finally write my first review here. There's been a lot said about limited apps and that it's a first generation device but here's what I can do with my surface: - I access the internet with a good browser that negates the needs for all of those apps in the first place - Run applications in split screen mode, no silly double clicking of that iPad home button. Nope, see two apps at once. - Stay connected with a decent, not great email app - Use a "real" Office suite to do some real work when needed, not some off brand product - Watch Netflix - Watch movies on Vudu - Attach to my company's VPN network and do real work - Listen to my entire 10K music track collection on the Amazon cloud player - Listen to satellite radio - Use the built in One Note application to keep myself organized at work It does basically everything and pretty well - but the best thing of all for me is the ability to use a 'mouse' aka point and click. This feature alone is the trump card over the iPad. I tried so many apps to be productive and get things done...but the ergonomics of having to always touch the screen when working on the iPad made it uncomfortable. With the Surface I can use whatever I want, touch interface, keyboard, and a mouse...it's very flexible. I highly recommend the Surface. I hope the negative news doesn't keep others from seeing that there are other really good choices out there. This product will serve you better than other options.

Great Tablet for the Price!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first tablet. It was a steal for the price that I bought it at. The tablet has good battery life, great picture quality, and easy to use. I had heard many negative things about the Windows 8 operating system, but I like it a lot. I like using it with my Xbox One via the smart glass feature. I do think that the Microsoft App store can get better, and I would like to see more browsers made available.

Frustrating in the beginning but love it now
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was used to the ipad before this purchase so I didn't really like using it at the beginning. As I've been using it slowly I keep finding new features and it's definitely a pretty nice tablet. One feature I really like and I couldn't find in any 10 in tablets was text wrapping/ text enlarging on the ie on desktop mode. I read a lot of internet articles and I don't have to keep scrolling left to right. Good tablet for surfing but not many apps. Camera sucks but alright for Skype. Screen quality is definitely worse than an ipad, but for the price ipad I'm not complaining.

Great tablet for work and play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was debating between this and an ipad mini as I was looking for a device to use in my construction work. I chose the surface rt because it has a great screen size, has office already installed and has the ability for USB and micro sd. Overall I am very happy with this.

Good for a $200 tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this is a gift for my father as his first tablet. Being a MS Windows PC user, I'm hoping it will make the transition much easier than either Android or iPad, both of which I also own. Having the capability for keyboard and touchpad makes this work well, also the included MS office makes this work for it's intended use: office applications and surfing the web. The most disappointing part is the lack of printer support. Supposedly no drivers available for the RT version because there was no effort to re-compile the drivers in something the ARM processor can interpret. This to me is just laziness on Microsoft's part. Good product for the $200, but basically, this can't print on existing printers unless they have integrated WiFi. This severely limits it's application in any kind of home or business environment (and renders MS Office half-useless). Definitely a learning-curve on how to use the new Windows 8 touch (not as intuitive as Android or IOS), let's hope the next version is better (follows the trend of the odd-versions being better, starting with 3.1). Also, having an IE app not coupled to the IE program on the desktop is disturbing. Updates take a long time on WiFi, unsure as to exactly why... be sure to update while plugged into power. Also, MS keyboard starting at $135 is a little steep. Same with the accessories (video adapter cables). Taken from the Apple pricing playbook. Overall not a bad machine, but know what you're getting into with RT.

Great tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I splurged on this Surface a week before I was going to a business conference so that I would have something I could take notes on without having to drag my laptop with me. I'm so glad I did! The pre-installed Office software is such a big plus for this product. I'm a Windows person. I've only ever had a PC and tried to get into using a Mac at work, but it's so counter-intuitive to me that I went back to my laptop. I have an iPod touch, so I'm familiar with iOS, but I just really like how innovative the Windows start screen is with the live tiles with custom sizes and you can change the color scheme to suit your mood. I just find it more geared to the individual than iOS is. I did not purchase the touch or type cover because I still do most of my typing on my laptop, and at the time I wasn't able to shell out another $120, but maybe for Christmas. I haven't had any trouble typing on the screen keyboard and regularly use a stylus and the writing feature to take notes. The only con I really have is that it's just a little too big. I appreciate the extra screen size, but it's hard to find a cover for it that I really love (I guess they really want you to buy the touch cover). Everything is made for the iPad size. But the size is not cumbersome. It's comfortable to hold, I even regularly read on it lying down. If you're looking for a tablet, check the surface out. Play with one in store and don't be afraid of the start screen. I hardly ever use the desktop feature unless I'm in an Office program or moving files around into different folders. It's a fun looking tablet and it's fun to use. You'll hear about the low selection of apps, but there is nothing not available that I can't live without.

Great Tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research when I finally got around to getting a tablet. There were a couple of features that made me go with the Surface. It was reduced due to the Surface 2 coming out and got it for $150 off, which paid for the detachable keyboard. I like the built in stand as I did not want to buy a case. Access to Xbox Music and Games is a great plus. You basically get access to any music you want, though with some commercials. The biggest benefit for me is that its windows based, which allows me to go from work to play very easily. The negative is the amount of apps though I'm not really missing anything

Better than iPad
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the Surface because (i) it has the "app" version of microsoft office and (ii) it has two USB ports (unlike iPad which does not have pre-loaded word editing and spreadsheet apps or USB ports). The Surface is also very light and screen resolution is great (but not as great as an iPad). I have been able to use the Surface for just about anything from paying bills to doing some light microsoft office work or connecting to the smart TV, and that USB port comes in very handy for upload and download material. The only thing I did not like is that the sound quality is quite poor. So if you want to use this device for audio material, I suggest getting a pair of speakers.

Great tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second one of these I have purchased for wife and now daughter. They have pretty much replaced their desktop PC's and the included Microsoft office is awesome for work or school. Build quality is excellent and the screen looks great. Battery life is in line with other tablets. Getting the keyboard is a must do imo and slap asb mouse on it at home and you have a laptop replacement.

Great all round Tablet for home and business use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Microsoft Surface RT is a great table that uses all native Microsoft office and Internet explorer software. While surfing the internet the MS Internet Explorer can access all websites and works with a great deal more plug ins than Android or iOS. The light weight design and optional keyboard makes it the perfect mobile, go anywhere table. Eazy to set up and configure. A little light on applets from the market but it seems to be gathering momentum. If you want to load off the shelf software you will need to upgrade to the more expensive model.

Great features for a tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like my new surface rt because it has the office package already preinstalled and is very useful. I like the microsoft store, the settings are easy to set up, the resolution is great and actually the battery life is not bad at all. Overall, I highly recommend this product for fun or business. Maybe the only thing I dont like is that the touch screen does not respond quickly.

Good tablet for home use.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this as a Christmas present for my wife. It was on sale for a good price which made it more appealing than an iPad or other third party tablet. It was a bit difficult out of the box because the set-up instructions were non-existent and the tablet required several updates to get up and running. The worst part was that the update process was not made easily understood on the device itself and required a bit of computer knowledge. This was very frustrating to my wife who is not as understanding of the "behind the scenes" operation of a computer. That said, once I managed to get everything updated for her she now loves the thing. She has a hard time with a few of the apps which will freeze or unexpectedly close on her but its only a few and for the most part everything else works great. Videos look great on the screen and the sound from the tablet itself is far better than expected. Its a great sized screen for as compact as the tablet is. We just got a VGA adapter for the mini HDMI and will be trying that next with our big screen TV. We have a touch-pad on order so I cannot comment on that as yet. Awesome tablet for the price we paid. Don't think I would have bought this outside of the sale though. I definitely recommend a screen protector and case. Downside is that cases (styles/brands/colors) are not as abundant as those for the iPad.
