Better than the reviews would have you believe...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't understand all the negativity towards the Duo. This is an amazing device. Yes, it has some software issues (easily correctable through updates). As a matter of fact there is an update waiting as soon as the device is powered on for the first time. Also. update the Microsoft launcher to the beta version and even more issues are fixed. Yes, the camera isn't the absolute latest and greatest (some issues could be fixed through updates), but you're not doing to get that in a device this thin. It's not meant to be a DSLR. It's meant for Zoom/Microsoft Teams calls or scanning documents. Can you use it as a regular camera? Sure! In daylight or inside with good lighting it's just fine. Low light situations it will struggle, but still nothing to cry about. Yes, it has last year's Snapdragon 855 processor. So what? It still FLIES. Swiping, scrolling, tapping, it's all fluid. No, it doesn't have 5G. So what? 5G has a long way to go before it reaches maximum saturation. Besides, putting a 5G antenna in would require a thicker device, more battery drain, and bigger batteries to offset the drain. LTE is more than sufficient at this time. Yes, it's expensive. So are all the other flagships, but this is in a totally different space than those. The closest thing to compare it to is the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and it costs $2K!!! The 128GB Duo is $600 cheaper, and the 256GB Duo is $500 cheaper! So save a bundle AND have a better multitasking experience! It's a great device for the right people. If you handle multiple emails, texts, calls, Office documents, etc., it's for you. If you don't, it's still a great device. Just give it a chance. Remember, looking back the first iPhone was not great at all.

Wait for version 2. Lots of potential.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The combination of a phone and a dual screen is a great concept. The phone is physically well built. I am impressed with how long the battery lasts. The software is quirky and not near as robust as other Android phones. It is also 4g and not 5g. This is more of a beta version phone. This phone has a lot of potential though. I am eagerly awaiting version 2 of this phone with all the planned fixes.

If you know what your buying, You'll be Happy.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've seen all the reviews that this phone is laggy, buggy, and has a poor camera. Which in all honesty is totally true, however regardless of its issues, everything about this phone fits exactly what I wanted it for. In real world use, I did encounter bugs and lags, but it did not take away from the experience of using this phone. This is basically my sole phone and it works perfectly as it should 95% of the time, any time it does act up its a super easy fix. Just shut the phone and open it back up, I'm guessing this action puts the launcher into its default state which clears up any bugs. Out of the time I'm using this phone through out the whole day (about 12-16 Hour) the total time I've seen bugs is probably only about 3-5 minutes all together, which was fixed by just closing and opening the device. The camera I've never really cared for in a phone. I don't care who you are and what phone you're using, it will never beat a real camera in both the quality and the control you have in your images. The only thing I've ever used my phone for picture wise, is if i just need to document something in a pinch, and this goes for the iPhones and Samsungs i've had in the past. So what do I use this phone for? mostly just reading, whether it be just articles online, ebooks, or comics, this is the phone i've had the best experience with. It may seem stupid to pay 1500 for a better reading experience. But to me the 4:3 aspect ratio is way more comfortable then all these super narrow long screens that seem to be the norm now, and the 2:3 ratio spanned mode is great for scroll reading and comics. No, for me the device is not worth the 1500$ I spent for it, to me its worth more along the lines 1000-1200, but the fact that this is the only phone i saw doing this sort of form factor, warranted me paying the extra money. Durability may be an issue with it being essentially a glass sandwich, but honestly you're spending 1500 dollars on it, just take care of it. Overall, if you look at this phone and instantly know that you could find a use for a dual screen, this might just be the phone for you. But if you need a phone that has a great camera, look elsewhere.

Don't, just don't
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been cursing this phone for 5 months now hoping Microsoft would update it to something usable. I'm finally throwing in the towel and getting something different. The software on this complete garbage. It has so many bugs Microsoft should be ashamed to have put this product out. The dual screen is nice but it if you have it folded for use as a single screen it has trouble deciding what screen to use. I'm constantly having to force it use the one I want. Also, the Bluetooth sucks. If you're on a call, using a headset, and you close the phone, it'll hang up the call. I have to force it to connect to my trucks radio every time I get in the truck. Except for one week a couple of weeks back, it worked great. I thought Microsoft had fixed the issue, then it stopped working connecting again. I'm not going to write a book about the issues this phone has, just trust me, if you're thinking of buying a phone don't get this one. I personally don't like Apple products and won't buy an iPhone, but if I had to choose between the two, I would buy an iPhone over this. I'm switching back to Samsung later today.

I have never wanted to like a phone so much
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was ever so excited to get this device, I have been waiting on it to come for quite some time. The fit and finish is great and is amazing. I wanted this device for work and to be productive, there are so many times that I need information from one app for another and this really seemed to fit the bill. Don't care about camera nor did I care about sound quality, just help me be productive and get more done. I have an IT business and support lots of business, and the faster I can access informaiton is important. With that said this doesn't work for me, and it is due to the software. I cannot help but feel that MS rushed the out when the software simply wasn't ready. If they waited till next year in the specs would be two years old and that would not be good. edge the browser would shake on the screen when trying to type in site, it would lock up etc. Chrome did the same thing as did firefox. Outlook which initally seemed like it would be great would freeze as well. I did find if I held device like a tablet with edge in the top scree and the keyboard in the lower it worked, but that sort of defeated the purpose of this. without the bumpers on the device it fit perfectly in shirt pocket or pants pocket, but I certainly would not suggest that you use this daily without the bumpers. Perhaps the Surface Duo II will be better...

Beautiful phone
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I bought the Surface Duo, I made a big mistake in buying the LG V-60 thin, which also has a dual screen but more complicated. The v60 has a chargeable case and it became a big hassle as the battery never lasted long, apps glitched, phone ran hot, etc. What stood out to me about the Surface Duo is that it actually has two screens and it looked easier to use. I like its stylish look and the size of the screen makes it easy for people with vision issues to read. Unfortunately, I found out too late that it does not operate off 5G, and like the v60, the screen did glitch some. After dealing with the v60 for a year, I did not have the desire to get stuck with another iffy device. Plus, upon doing research, I discovered that microsoft was about to release the surface Duo 2 in less than 2 months! I decided to return the phone for that reason. I'm very optimistic and anxious to buy the newer model, as I totally get the Duo surface (original), which still is a very unique device. I received many compliments about it.

Not Perfect, but really enjoy this phone
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I bought this phone, I was skeptical of how much I would enjoy it. So far, I am not finding many issues with it. Some apps do not handle displaying on both screens as well as I like, Discord is an example. But being able to have email one screen and taking notes, surfing the web and pretty much anything else is so far a huge plus. An unexpected bonus is I have started to use my phone as my eReader also since apps like Nook will show two pages at a time, so it gives the feeling of reading a small book. I marked that I would suggest this to a friend, as I have suggested a coworker get one, however I think how a person uses their phone and what they want to use it for will affect me suggesting the phone. Pros: *Dual Screens are great for multi-tasking *Battery Life has been great. I full charge before I go to sleep, and one charge lasts until the next night. *Microsoft Launcher pre-installed, I really like the way this organizes apps. *Ability to pre-group apps to display on different screens Cons: *Cost, this phone is not for everyone. As a developer I like it, but I would not suggest this phone to a lot of people *Not all apps render as neatly as other, this will come as more dual screen phones

Almost there, but missed its mark
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Surface duo is a great device. You can use both screens to do 2 things at one time. The hardware is top notch! The only problem is the hinge. It can creek at times when you open and close it, more to the feeling of it and not the sound. You dont hear anything, but you can feel the gears grind a little bit sometimes when you open and close the device to quickly. This should not be happening on such an expensive product. I have taken the first one back because of that. The second one was brand new also, and eventually did the same thing. The hinge functions normally everytime, but you get that feeling and I feel as though that can make it feel cheap at times. It should not be doing that. Other then that, the device is beautiful. The AMOLED screens are bright and crisp. The software has gotten updated and the phone is usuable, but overtime you will notice a lot of glitches with the software. I am glad they discounted this phone to what it is because it is no where near the price it originally was when it first came out. I would have hated to be an early adopter and paid that much for this. The phone is great in many other areas, but the hinge part has turned me off. Heres hoping that the next version has that part cleaned up. And hopefully the next version should also have 5G, NFC and Wireless Charging which this one does NOT have.

Good, interesting, fun but quirckyd
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The concept is great, screens are clean and clear and very responsive. Having some frustration with a compatible Sim card and carrier since it appears to be limited to Verizon, AT&T and T-Moble right now but it is early and first generation. Tablet function and video conference and viewing impressive as well. Little pricey for these options, though - should have waited for a price drop.

Awesome Harware, but a little too buggy
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is an awesome piece of tech! The hardware is on point. I love how it is something different than what we are use to for the last several years. The only down fall to this device is the software is buggy. It has gotten a lot better with app updates and software updates, but still has some hiccups. Overall its not bad, but they need to send a big software update to address some of the issues. If they can get the software a bit smoother the device has huge potential to be one of the best. The price is way too high for the software not to be where it should. Would've gave it a 5 if the software was up there with Samsung's UI or Apple's IOS

Good Ideas but just misses on some key areas
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This phone brings great ideas for people who like to multi task. I found myself taking care of things that was a pain on a single screen phone. If you plan on using the camera for simple tasks, then that's when they problems arise. Too many times I found myself taking too many steps in order to take a simple photo. Hopefully Microsoft fixes these issues in the next model.

Perfect for me
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, by this point everyone should have seen reviews of all the positives and negatives in order to make their decision on this purchase. For me, it was easy and has worked out as expected. This is not a phone for anyone active on social media. The camera is made to be functional for Teams/Zoom meetings, and not for pictures. Not to say that you can't take them, but if you are regularly updating Instagram this is not the best use for this device. Most of the negative reviews I've seen are critical of the camera and the reviews were published prior to the stabilizing day one update. As above, this is not intended for social media power users. If your company is ingrained in the Office ecosystem, this is where this product shines. Outlook, Word, and Excel all work the same way you'd expect on your desktop or laptop. That's massive for me. Being able to read an email and open the spreadsheet attachment on the 2nd screen is awesome. Any issue I have is minor after a week of use. I wish the screen rotate was a little more quick to respond, and there are some software bugs that I would expect to be fixed in a patch. If you want a work phone and use Office regularly, I couldn't recommend it more

Good for multi tasking
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A very good device for multitasking, you can see website in one panel & search for something/map in another panel, it’s like double screen. Only disadvantage is the camera, need to carry iphone for taking photos. If u take tons of photos & want a handy phone this is not that. I felt it just amazing for multitasking.

Love this phone but has flaws
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Microsoft did a great job designing this phone but has one major flaw. The side is made of plastic which means the usb c port is very fragile. Its not a question of if youll break it its more when you will. Aside from that and some software quirks I this this is one of my favorite phones of the last several generations. It feels new and different. Its very thin when unfolded. Battery life is acceptable, better than youd think. I can get 10+ hours on a charge with heavy use, standby is REALLY good. Both screens are beautiful. I never cares about filling the phone with only screen. Both screens feel big ( in a good way) and the wideness of the screen compared to how long other phones are great for reading. You get more words per line which makes it a lot more comfortable. Works well with the kindle app spanning on both screens! Auto brightness seems to work really well and seems to learn and adjust based on how you adjust it while leaving auto brightness on. Multi tasking is awesome! most apps work well being on either screen and the weird screen ratio. very few apps (mostly Microsoft apps) support spanning across both screens properly. Having a video and working on email on other phone. Or Looking up a recipe and creating a list for ingredients on the other screen. Even though the phone has last years processor it feels current. Its fast, never experienced any slowdowns. Mono speaker is not great. If the audio is already bad it makes it even worse. Its acceptable but boxy sounding. Camera is also a low point but is acceptable to me. I dont typically take a lot of photos but ones i do take work fine with this phone. Id like it to be better but not at the cost of the thinness and flatness of this phone. Camera bumps are UGLY and stupid looking and i am glad there are a few phones out there that avoid them. This phone isnt for everyone. There are still some software problems to fix and the phone is fragile at the usb port. If you are a major microsoft/surface fan this is great. If youre looking for great sounding speakers, and being able to take breathtaking photos, this isnt for you.

Great with some Software Quirks
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have really enjoyed my time with the duo. There are some quirks with the software that can be fixed with future updates. I do think that for the dated chip set, lack of wireless charging, decent camera, and nfc that this phone is pricey but using both screens at the same time is a joy.

1st gen, has compromises, but I'm sold
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hardware is amazing. It's a miracle what they can do with such an impossibly thin device. And with that there are compromises. But I can live with most of them; the processor is still newer than my Note9, 6gb of RAM hasn't been an issue, battery last the day for me and I've never used NFC. However, the biggest compromise is the camera. It's not good and not easy to use. The software has been pretty good for me. I love having the two separate screens; makes multitasking (task switching?) much easier. I use a lot of MS Office products and most work well on the duel screen. I like the wider aspect of the screens, makes things easier to read. Once you get used to the gestures it becomes an amazing experience. An excellent 1st gen product.

Nice First Gen Product
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchase this item when the price was half-off. I allow the device to download the updates (approx. 4 updates) then configure with my Google/Microsoft/E-mail accounts. The device worked/works perfectly. I had no issues as reported when the product was first release. There is one minor (minor) issue, during startup a message appears but disappears too quickly. It appears something Microsoft could not read but the device is working well. It has some weird quirks, like it won't power off if connected to power source (it just reboot). It is not clear why the screen turns off some times when you close the device. The camera is fine for taking a picture (for recording purposes), however if consider yourself a photographer you may want to look elsewhere.

I like it others may not.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am sure you have read quite a bit about this phone by now. I am not going to go into too much details. The main purpose I bought this phone was for combining my laptop work and usage of messages and texting. The dual screen was enough to convince me. I like all the features I bought this phone for. It is not a good phone for calling or receiving calls but I like it’s tablet features. Holding the phone can be troubling. I have ordered a phone ring holder to grab it and keep it safe. The shiny glass may make it difficult for the holder to stay put. We will see. I have been thinking about buying Fitbit which may eliminate my phone capabilities complaints. I have already put it in my inbox. One of these days I will hit the buy button. I came from Apple so still getting used to it. But overall I like the phone very much. Good luck to you.
