Microsoft Duo
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The main thing I've noticed is in colder or hotter temperatures the screen doesn't seem to respond to touch. The voice to text doesn't work very well it always clicks out and you continuously have to click voice typing. Would have been really nice if they added an SD card and also the Sim chip tray would be better if it had a bottom that allowed it to fit more securely. One last note is you can't reverse camera in a lock state so if you want to take a quick picture you can't just click the picture and reverse the camera. Even with all that I still like the phone a lot I feel there's a lot of potential especially once they work out all the Kinks

Exceptional and transformative
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Exceptional quality. The form factor and ergonomics of the dual screen design with gestures feels natural and intuitive. This device has been transformative for me, and enables mobile app usage and a phone in a perfectly sized package that just works so well for me. Clever UI features like dual-app launching are unique and so useful. It's also surprisingly smooth and performs much better than the Samsung S20 Ultra it replaces with competitive battery life. Thats probably the biggest surprise of all.

Great 1st generation fold phone
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The phone is great. snappy, great screen resolution. Only one forward facing camera unless you fold it. Not 5G. The hinge can be distracting when spanning application over both screens. Only one color. Overall, it is a great folding phone.

Great device, but Verizon customers be careful.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the Duo format, but experienced significant challenges using it on the Verizon system. It appears that they haven't yet had enough exposure to this device to provide good support and, in my case, I kept dropping calls which is unacceptable for a device that was replacing my phone. So I've returned it with great disappointment. The device, itself, was slightly wider but not as long as my current phone so there was no difficultly carrying it in my pocket. Screen quality is excellent although many of the apps that I use most have not been optimized for dual screen and I'm not sure they ever will. There is a significant learning curve involved, too. While it is Android, the flow of the operating system is not exactly what I am familiar with, particularly with respect to settings.

Different than the rest
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've have had the Duo for a month now and I can say it's a different experience. It's not really a phone, it's more of a tablet. it's great at multitasking. Not great at taking pictures, and sometimes it seems overworked.

Good start, not ready for prime time
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a fun device with a lot of potential. The draw backs are a few to many up front for it to become a hit. It's about 1/2 to 3/4 inches to wide on each screen. No rear facing camera or flashlight is an issue. No face Id capabilities. The software is still a little buggy but I think that can be fixed in patches. I think if they make a second version that addresses those couple things it will be a heck of a mobility device. I've enjoyed it and am still on the fence from my iPhone but it's a great start

Outstanding device; don't believe the hate
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't understand why all the hate for such a new device. Granted, the software does need some work, but it's just that: software. Software always changes. The hardware is impeccable. I've been an iOS user for 10 years and the recent cloud gaming fiasco got me interested in other devices, then I discovered the Duo. The first couple of days of using a new OS and a new device were difficult for me, but I'm really enjoying it now. Sure the camera isn't up to par with the flagships, but I'm not a photographer. Plus, they can always port over the software running on the Pixel devices, which I'm sure they will. I've tried to replace my iPhone and iPad mini with the Duo and it's been great so far. Reading books in book mode, viewing webpages in dual-screen vertical mode, watching media on single and dual screens, creating app groups for my banks and home automation so they launch at the same time, keeping a video/page up on the left and using the right screen to research something or paste content.....the use cases are crazy on this thing! The hinge does present a black bar in the middle of the screen when going dual-screen, but I've found it doesn't bother me THAT much, but it is something to consider. Fingerprint sensor is the best I've used! There are plenty of negative reviews out there, but take it from me that this device is solid, and with future software updates (3 years promised by Microsoft) it's only going to get better! A+. Great job Microsoft/Google.

Nice product for work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this to use for work purposes and it is nice. The software is still a little buggy with the swipes but it I set it with the 3 button option and that works nice. I also setup the split groups which shows my work email and calendar so that is a plus as well. As for the phone, I normally use Bluetooth earbuds so that want an issue for me. I recently got a Surface Pen to try and that works nice only thing is there is no place to put the pen so I have to carry it. The duo does fit in the pocket of my work clothes and workout stuff. It would have been nice to have a small cutout for notifications when it is closed. If they fox the buggy software and lower the price it would be an excellent device

Quirky but Awesome!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is like having a computer in your pocket with two monitors. Copy and paste from one application to the other while leaving both open for viewing. Type on one screen while you view on the other. Make something you are reading larger by moving it to both screens to use as one. Watch a video conference by folding it back and it stands on its own. Works as a phone just fine. Camera may not be as good as some. Sure, it's a bit quirky at times and it has a slight learning curve. Once you get use to it though, you will not want to go back to your old phone.

ITS ALMOST THERE
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.it's very uncomfortable in the hands. The best option is to close it or leave it wide open. The screen let's you work and multi task. The battery life is good and speaker is good. It includes a bumper which is great. As of release there isn't any covers for it. I'm gonna wait for the next gen. Value is high. It's like buying 2 phones.call reception and voice is great.

Awesome
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Surface Duo is awesome, especially considering the possible future uses new apps will bring. It's very versatile and greatly enhances multitasking. Because videos can overlay, you can actually have three things going on at once. Apps that utilize both screens give you a great amount of real estate, especially for a mobile device. I didn't buy this for the phone capabilities and I'm not using it for that,

surface duo phone
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whenever you fold the screen back and don't want to use it, it sometimes turns on while just trying to use one screen so sometimes its hard for the phone to detect which screen you want to use when its folded back also sometimes some applications freeze but other then that the phone has been working out great for me its a great phone for multitasking. I would definitely recommend for someone who basically needs a small computer in their pocket.

More cons than pros
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very glitchy. Hoping for software updates. Also am having trouble with getting phone calls. I do like the dual screens and easy access to my Microsoft products. Price tag isn't worth it but I'm going to stick it out.

An Evolution Not A Revolution
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am really enjoying my Duo but the software just isn't there. It kind of reminds me of how Android was back in 2008, work well but had a lot of issues. This is a device that can't primarily be used as a phone but a productivity device. Oh, and the camera is just fine for the basic needs but as a "hurry get your phone out an take this shot" it is a clunker.

A great glimpse of a future.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR I returned it, too buggy, but MAN this design is spot on. This little machine is a great invention. You can't really question it until you try having YouTube on the right screen, and scrolling Twitter on the left screen because you're left handed. The design is amazing. Its light, the hinge is sturdy. You have to feel the closing of this phone. 5g isn't needed at this time, dead spots everywhere. To why I returned it, the software is trash. I see what is trying to happen, but I see this as an alpha being pushed out to gain capital for the 2nd one. I could live with the camera, I can live with the big phone while I'm on a phone call. What I can't have is use a GPS with this phone. Try to figure out the next turn while at a stop light, and it crashes because I did the UP gesture to minimize it....but it didn't minimize....so I am left not knowing where I am or going....so I had to stop...potentially failing a client....BIG NOPE FOR ME...

Great Concept, but...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Microsoft Surface Duo is MS’s first ever Android phone. And in the crowded Android ecosystem, Microsoft rightly strived to differentiate the Surface Duo. In this they succeeded: Its different. But among the mature flagships, different isn’t enough. Let’s talk about the “good”. To start, the device is beautiful and seemingly constructed well. Combining glass inner and outer surfaces, a plastic frame, and a metal hinge, the device is fantastically thin. Seriously, each half is barely thicker than the USB-C charging port. And the hinge is a work of art, with a super satisfying feeling when opening and closing the device. The volume rocker, power button and fingerprint scanner are all positioned well. Once the device is booted, you’ll find Android 10 with Microsoft Launcher. The standard Android apps that you would expect are present (Gmail, Chrome, Play Store) as well as the suite of standard Office productivity apps (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Overall, its familiar enough with some really clever updates to take advantage of the form factor, like App Groups. That aforementioned hinge combined with the software tweaks allows the device to be crazy flexible. Fold it in half and use one screen like a traditional smartphone. Set it on a desk like a tent to watch a video. Use it like a laptop with a keyboard on the lower screen and your mail on top. Multi-task with both screens with your mail on one and your calendar on the other. Options abound. Battery life has been better than I expected. Given the thinness of the Surface Duo, I didn’t have great expectations, but it is possible to get a full day of usage. That said, your mileage will obviously vary based on your usage. Not just based on the usual screen-on time factor, but also from the number of screens employed. The more you use both screens, the faster it drains. Some of the other good points: The AMOLED screens are bright, clear, and vivid. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate. The 128GB and 256GB storage offerings are generous. The device is unlocked and can be used with all US carriers. And, because its a phone, call quality was clear. Now, let’s talk about the “not so good”. To start, there is a plethora of missing hardware features that you would expect to be present on a flagship-level device. No 5G. No wireless charging. No NFC. No expandable storage. No stereo speakers. No headphone jack (and no included USB-C to 3.5 dongle). And no IP rating. One or maybe even two (if you’re feeling generous) of these absences would be tolerable. But all of these taken together make the device feel...incomplete. Then there is the single camera, which is mediocre at best. Brightly lit pictures can be acceptable. In the dark, AI helps keep the pictures usable. Maybe. Sometimes. And there is no optical stabilization. Even putting the camera hardware aspect aside, usage can be frustrating: If the device is closed, by the time you open the device and launch the camera app, the moment can be easily missed. The single loud speaker is also problematic. The low volume is strangely not low enough, full volume isn’t loud enough, and overall sound quality is only just acceptable. Finally, there is the software. While there are some great features cooked in, there are periodic lags and freezes. Gestures are frequently missed. When folded in half, the back screen will occasionally just turn on. The screen orientation sometimes just changes (maybe a function of the accelerometer?). And many apps are simply not configured to work well with the dual screens. For instance, I tried installing an alternative launcher that I frequently use on other devices and it was wholly unusable on the Duo (I get this comes back to the app developer, but it only adds to the pile of issues to be aware of). Some other bad points: Running Android 10 and not 11. Android 10 was fine...in its time. But 11 has been available for 7 months. The Snapdragon 855 is similarly dated. Yes, it too works, but its not worthy of this price point any longer. And, for a phone that focuses on multitasking and productivity, 6GB of RAM seems insufficient. Especially when other single-screen flagships are sporting twice that. At the end of the day, the Surface Duo is a great concept. It demonstrates what’s possible when a manufacturer thinks outside of the box. And, for those looking for flexibility and productivity above all, it might suffice. But the hardware absences combined with the current software bugginess keep the Surface Duo from serving as a daily driver for me. Disclaimer: I am a member of the Tech Insider Network Program. ||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Microsoft again proves they know how to make a quality product. Thin, light, and intelligent the Surface Duo exceeds expectations. Multitasking is amazing. Don’t need to multitask? No problem, fold it all the way back for one screen. It’s a great product.

Great for productivity
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Owned it for a week now and its great. With the dual screens its great for multi-tasking and productivity. The only, downside so far is the awkwardness when using the camera and taking pictures. The camera is great for doing onlone meetings but taking pictures is awkward.
