Customers are saying

Customers commend the Microsoft Surface Duo 256GB for its dual screens, multitasking capabilities, and stunning design. They appreciate the long battery life and thin profile, which makes it highly portable. However, customers express concerns about the camera quality, software bugs and glitches, and limited RAM, which can hinder multitasking.

This design is very stunning and unprecedented. I paid attention to it before it was released, and I bought it the first time until its release date, and its performance was very satisfactory to me.

    Terrible phone, but great PDA/reader/mult-tasker

Terrible photos, no NFC. You have to fold it open and completely over in order to hold up to your ear to take a call. For most intents and purposes, it is a terrible phone. But it is phenomenal at multi-tasking, using as a PDA, or book reader, or browsing device. Don't believe what most people say about UI clunky-ness. Once you understand that specific areas of the screen enable specific gestures, it is pretty easy to navigate. A+++ on industrial design. It really is a wonder to hold in your hands.

Great phone for the price with dual screens. I use it for business and it is very efficient when it comes to having 2 apps open at the same time. Great for muit tasking

This is an amazing phone for the purpose it set out for. The screens are bright and colorful, and very responsive to touch. Getting use to the gestures can be a learning curve on its own but other than that no complaints

Love the Duo. It does take a little bit getting used to the screens switching around but you will get the hang quickly. Downside is it is a bit large to carry especially if you are used to using a holster as I am. Is a bit pricey.

Have used it for about a week now. Purchased a Surface pen separately. At first it was doing great but now sometimes it lags. Using the finger or the pen doesn't matter. I like the 2 screen part but it is hard to drag and drop from one screen to the next with the fold in the middle. Almost impossible with the pen because the gap catches it even if it is completely flat.

Awesome phone and productivity booster. Love the dual screens. It is much more comfortable to type on than a "normal" sized cell phone. Does not have laptop capabilities but is still capable to get you through the day.

Absolutely love this thing! Pro's: If you use Microsoft OneNote...you'll love it too! I am an iPhone user, so I'm catching up quick on the whole Droid thing. Con's: Wish it were 5G, but for what I use it for (updating OneNote with specific photos and notes, to specific files...it works great. Battery life is a little short, but I use it a lot, and almost all my use is data transfer. Camera is a little weak, but for what I use it for (taking pictures of houses), it is more than sufficient.

I love this tablet phone! It’s sleek and versatile....great for multitasking. I was initially hesitate to purchase based on the reviews. I literally bought it and didn’t open the box for two days; then returned it. Two weeks later, I thought to myself, “this is bigger than the Samsung fold 2, it’s cheaper and I like microsoft.” So, I figured I would go ahead and risk it and forget the reviews. I’ll make my own judgement over time. So I repurchased the device and so far, I’m happy. I’ll update in 90 days. But for now; I’m sold.

I purchased this as a secondary device, not as a replacement for my phone so I can't say anything about its capabilities in that regard. I will say that as a pda, it is great. Microsoft still has a bit of refining to do with it. The gestures controls are a bit touchy, the third party support is still hit or miss, and the accessories are still very lacking. I did purchase this also because of its potential, not for its current capabilities. I do believe that anyone who's on the fence about this, think hard on the price and think hard on weighing it's current capabilities vs its possible potential for what role you need this to accomplish.

Many many many apps still don’t work well. Can not watch Netflix on one side, and open Chrome on the other side. It’s $1,499, not $49. Come on, did the staff test it before sell it??!

I purchased the Duo on its launch date and was very excited. However, that excitement quickly turned to frustration. The phone is very glitchy and slow. I didn't return the phone as Microsoft had promised monthly updates to the phone. So far, the updates have implemented minimal changes. The phone is still glitchy. It struggles to figure out which orientation you have it in. Also, the camera software is horrible. When I purchased the phone, I understood the camera was not the Duo's strength. However, the software should at least work seamlessly with the hardware. Again, the camera struggles to figure out which orientation the Duo is in. Also, when using the camera in the message app, the quality deteriorates substantially. I really hoped Microsoft would work out these bugs in their updates but it doesn't look like they're making much an investment here. Save your money or maybe go with a samsung fold.

I preordered the surface duo and recieved it on the day it was released. I played with it for a few days and then decided it was not for me. It was a marvel to look upon, but my issues were mostly software related. Yes, I needed a productivity device and in principle this was ideal. I kept returning to my iphone 11 pro max to get stuff done. I returned it. A few weeks passed and I was oddly missing the device. I heard about the recent software updates and also felt I had given this device a fair chance. I was unfamiliar with the Android landscape but loved Microsoft. So I purchased it a again! But this time I put away my iPhone and for a while and used the surface duo as my principle device. As I became more familiar with it, I started to enjoy it. The split screen did make a difference to productivity, and many of the apps ran very smoothly. I felt the phone functionality also improved. Zoom and Skype were more useful in split screen. Now here's the big thing. This does not replace my iPhone. It is a secondary device used primarily to get stuff done. It does not take amazing photos. It's not meant for that. You can't use it for contactless payments. It's not meant for that. To get the most out of this device, you need to customize the interface and apps, the layout, the cloud integrations etc to meet your exact productivity needs. Buy it to complement your phone not to replace it. I realized that it takes away potential distractions you experience with regular smart phones and aims to keep the focus in getting work done, and it presents an interface that squarely puts productivity in front of you. In fact Microsoft never marketed this as a phone. I view it as a streamlined pocket computer. I now get what this device was intended for. I will likely commit myself to this device and look forward to future iterations.

Pretty good phone, the two screens work very well. Overall I have no big problems, however there are some issues. When taking a picture you have to fully open the phone to get it off selfie mode but it doesn't always register. Presets sometimes go back to what they were previously and sometimes opening programs stutter and don't open right away. When I fully open the phone to type I have to wait a couple seconds to grab the phone or when my fingers touch the other screen it moves the picture.

Decided to give this phone a try, was considering the Samsung Note 20. I am glad I picked this phone, I love having the 2 screens (watch TV while surfing the web, using navigation while looking up contacts, etc). Comparing it to the Note I was concerned about the camera, but it takes great photos. The only con I see is that it doesn't have Live Focus pictures, which I loved on my Note 8. It is easy to use once you get used to it.

This phone was ok. It was neat how you can use a duo display BUT most of the applications didn't work to well with the dual displays. I returned the device because it began to be very glitchy despite getting updates.. For $700... not worth it. if it was like 400-500, it would've been worth it.
