I love this laptop!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use Windows 10 while at work, but never felt comfortable with it since I use my MacBook pro and iMac to write while at home. I had considered getting a windows machine to get better acquainted with Windows 10, which seemed less friendly to me. I had my eye on the Dell XPS 13 for awhile, but then I saw a surface laptop and decided to bring it home. The style of this laptop is on par with apple products and in fact may be even more stylish than MacBook, which seems dated in comparison. The minimal look to the surface laptop 3 gives it a classy feel. No intel stickers on the computer, or distracting engravings detract from its style. Its all aluminum case is a pleasure to hold, while is slim design makes it seem lighter than its actual weight. It is practical to carry in my bag, but I notice the added weight when toting it around. The laptop is powerful enough to do the things I need a laptop to do, mainly editing word documents. I bought the intel i5, 256 GB model with 8GB of RAM, normally $1299 but was on sale for $899 at the time. The laptop 3 does what I need it to do, and is snappy while doing it. The power brick connects using a surface connector, which charges the computer. A bonus, when this port is connected to the surface dock, it powers the laptop while communicating with dual monitors and connected USB devices like hard drives and wired keyboards. It is nice to simply dock to the surface connector and begin using all my connected monitors and devices without having to sacrifice my USB A or C ports. The dock ports are not modern and probably should be updated for 2020 by adding at least one or two USB C options. But for my needs, it works perfectly as is; two mini display ports to power my old 23 inch Apple Cinema displays and two USB-A type3s that are connected to a hard drive and keyboard. The dock makes my desk less cluttered, a nice benefit. The keyboard and trackpad are great. I would love this keyboard on my MacBook. This is the best trackpad that I have used on a windows machine, but the mac trackpads are just slightly better. The touchscreen and support for the surface pen is nice, but I rarely use them. Writing on the laptop screen is awkward, since the screen does not fold all the way over. My messy handwriting in even worse when adding notes to OneNote. There is no dedicated place on the surface 3 to attach the surface pen when not using it, but the magnets on the top of the display does a good enough job to keep it handy (see photo). The battery life is not great. I can adjust power usage to extend battery life while sacrificing performance, but this is more of a Windows 10 thing, not really an exclusive surface 3 trait. While on best performance, my power dropped to 50% after two hours of web surfing and light document editing, which is fine for me since I am accustomed to this battery life. The surface laptop 3 is not the most powerful that can be found, and its cost (unless on sale, like mine) is higher than other options. I enjoy the style of the surface laptop 3 which compliments the Windows 10 operating system well. Unexpectedly, it has become my main device. I still love my macbook but after using macOS for so long, working on the surface laptop seems fresh. I like it.

The most convenient and practical laptop
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beyond Excellent would be the proper rating for this Microsoft Surface 3 13”. I am currently working from home because of the lockdown and this laptop is just amazing. It is fast, smart and sleek! Completely justifying the true meaning of a computer, which is, “Convenience”. I had purchased a MacBook Air 13.3 but I guess being a layman in IT issues, I needed a computer that is not complicated at all and so I returned the MacBook and exchanged it with this Surface Pro Laptop 3 13. Best decision.

Microsoft's Best Surface Yet
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Surface Laptop 3 is hands down the best laptop I have ever owned. I purchased this computer months ago while I was still in school. Mainly for university classes and it has since surpassed it's uses since then. The all metal design is amazing and certainly fits the sleek look its going for. The matte black model can be sort of a fingerprint magnet at times but because of the metal finish it can wipe right off really easily. Its extremely fast and snappy. The only real con I can say about the laptop is its battery life, for some it can feel a little short. Sometimes into the 4-5 hour range and for others it can be 6-7. It mainly and always comes down to your individual use. Overall, I can really say it's the third times a charm for the Surface Laptop 3.

Not very reliable
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an IT professional with over 20 years of repair experience, so I've had my hands on many different computers over the years. ALL THIS THING LIKES TO DO IS BLUE SCREEN AND SHUT DOWN! I kept fixing all of them and it just kept happening. I figured I would give it a solid couple weeks of use to break it in and give Windows updates the benefit of the doubt. Attachment shows picture of crash history (all the red x's were critical failures resulting in blue screens). As you can see, on 1/31 I started getting critical hardware errors. Not acceptable for a brand-new machine that I dropped over $1000 of hard earned cash on. All the crashes I experienced during my short time of use were during projects that didn't get saved. This will be getting returned and does not have my recommendation. I understand that I can return for a new one and this could just be a lemon. However, my trust is lost and I will be returning to my loyal and trust able Macbook. Dear Microsoft, The Surface Laptop 3 is a beautiful laptop. I was easily persuaded to purchase as soon as I laid my hands on it at Best Buy. Please put more attention to detail on the internals and optimize the OS, which in the end matters the most. No one should have to suffer this much with a band new out of the box laptop. A beautiful, but dead machine doesn't do us any good. Thanks, KRS

Love this laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did lots of research after my MacBook from 2013 died and I’m so glad I switched from Apple products to this. The touch screen is really nice and the keys are comfortable for typing. It is so light and thin and the shape/design is really great. I saw some comments about this computer getting hot when you work on it for a while and being able to hear the fans but I haven’t had that problem yet and have spent several days on work from home meetings all day. This is a great computer for students and those doing every day work on a computer. The only con is the price point is a bit high but comparing to Apple products it’s a deal for what you get.

Very pleased with this MS Surface Laptop 3
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very pleased with this MS Surface Laptop 3 so far. Very light, solid fit/finish, looks great. Love that I can open the lid with just one hand without the whole unit flipping. Very quick start up. Wake up with facial recognition is a great feature...works every time. Charges full in the blink of an eye. Processor seems snappy....unit only lags a little when in total battery saver mode. NO bloatware that I have found. Slightly overpriced compared to the competition, but the reviews were better so I pulled the trigger.

Should combine areas of surface pro to laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched from a surface pro to the laptop and really enjoy the bigger screen, larger keyboard area, and ability to use as a normal laptop. The only drawbacks I do see is the position of the charging port makes it quite difficult to connect, unlike the surface pro where it was on the screen area and easier to connect. Small bother i know, but it makes a difference. Also, it does not have an expandable micro SD slot like the surface pro And there is no designated area for the surface pen, it just dangles akwardly on the front of the laptop. It works great though, I havent had any issues with it and is built very well. It is quick, boots up fast, and very light and sleek. Just wish they would make a magnetic area for the surface pen that I bought for 80 bucks

Premium device for a premium price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had mixed results with this device but overall it was a decent machine. This was intended to be my mobile machine for grad school. This is my first windows machine in a few years and my first portable windows device since my Surface Pro 3 in 2014. It was replacing the higher tiered MBP 13, which had issues in its own right for sure. Pros- -Fast at everything I tested it for: multiple Office apps, browser tabs, and pdf files. -Windows 10/One Drive is better than the last time I used a PC at all since about 5 years ago. -Looks incredible. Matte black is a great look, this was one of the most attractive devices I've seen. -Keyboard is the best I've typed on from any portable device or desktop device. Front to back slope was perfect for me. This would have been a comfortable way to type a couple hundred pages of research. -Screen is sharp, large at 13.5, and touch provided some conveniences. -1 of each port and a proprietary charging port is nice compared to Macbooks of comparable pricing. You don't really need a dongle and you don't lose a port for charging. Plus the power brick as a usb port on it and a flat cord. These are nice touches for a premium feel. Cons- -Mine always had issues with the camera. I went through about 15 hours of trouble shooting, tech support, reinstall of every level, and countless restarts to try and fix this. Facial recognition had about a 50% success rate. The camera app was functional less than that. Maybe it's an issue with the FR software, maybe it was just my unit. -Premium price. I only bought this one because was at great sale price and I hate the material of the less expensive one. I don't use 256gb worth of storage on portable devices. So for 1300 does it have the same value for more space and the all metal body? That's up to you but consider the comparable Macbook Air for the same price; almost identical processor, twice the storage, but a slightly smaller screen without touch. -The finish was incredible looking but attracted dust like no other. -The surface pen is nice and the touch screen is convenient but it would the form limits the function of it for those who might be interested or tempted in using these features full time. I ended up exchanging mine. I just don't feel a 1300 laptop should require a part time job worth of trouble shooting to get a camera working. This is pretty basic in 2020. Maybe had this not happened I would have kept it and been happy, but somewhere around hour 2 it occurred to me that I could find a windows machine with the same performance and touch functionality for half the cost. I would still recommend the device for some folks but if you are a student or on a budget keep researching your options.

Fast and efficient
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was in the market for a work laptop to utilize throughout the day in and out of the office. This laptop checks all the boxes; fast, efficient, beautiful sleek design, and lightweight. Long lasting battery and fast charge. I would recommend purchasing a sleeve for the laptop immediately as it scratches easy and is way to pretty for scratches.

Another solid laptop from Microsoft
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for a good looking design, good build quality, and strong performance it's hard to look past the Surface Laptop. Sure, it's not a 2-In-1 like it's siblings but it stands strong as a thin and light device. The touchscreen works fantastically and the display itself is bright and crisp though it does have some glare. Performance with the 10th Gen Intel processors will please anyone and is fast and snappy due to the lack of junkware bundled in the OS. Microsoft likes to keep Windows free of clutter in their Surface devices and IMO makes it worth the premium price to not have to deal with bunches of trialware and extra license agreements. If you're willing to spend a little more the Surface Dock makes it easy to have a nice workstation setup for school or work projects with a single cable to connect or disconnect when you want to get more done or take it on the run. Overall, a highly recommended product.

Great bang for your buck
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this because my surface book 2 died and needed a laptop for cheap and I am insanely impressed by this thing. Graduated recently, but as a student this thing was amazing. Slid right into my backpack, super slim and super light. Not amazing specs but you don’t feel the consequences of it. Seriously recommend. I also really love the design of the laptop overall. I should also mention Surface devices are a slightly taller dimension which is AMAZING for productivity. You can see so much more and going to 19:10 is always hard after using it for a while. Great screen quality as well.

Amazing premium Windows laptop for Windows users.
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome performance, solid battery life, AMAZING design and build quality. This is a great option for school or road warriors that need a solid build, good performance, a big and sharp useable screen with its taller aspect ratio, very good backlit keyboard and large and accurate trackpad. The speakers sound great and get VERY loud and are very clear. the windows hello face recognition log in is still fast and accurate and I enjoy it much more than the touch ID in my M1 Macbook pro.

Swing and a Miss
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to love this laptop - it has such an elegant design and seems like the perfect ultrabook; but, unfortunately, strange bugs and poor quality control make this laptop miss the mark. First, let's talk about the positive. This is probably one of the nicest looking and feeling laptops I have ever used. It's refined form factor, sleek angles. and light weight exude a premium feel. I also really like the alcantra fabric keyboard, and it's a real shame Microsoft only offered this option on a limited number of configurations. The keyboard and trackpad are also positives - both are incredibly responsive and have a great feel to them. In addition, the touchscreen is incredibly responsive and useful (Apple - take note - touchscreens are not a bad thing). Despite these refined features, the device ends up feeling cheap after only a few hours of use. For one, there is horrendous light-bleeding along the bottom edge of the screen. Second, the auto-brightness is erratic and downright annoying - seemingly adjusting for no rhyme or reason every few seconds - yes, you can disable this setting, but I have a hard time accepting that as a solution to a problem. Finally, the speakers on my unit would periodically emit a popping sound; I suspect this is something that is software versus hardware related, but it's an unsettling sign for a brand new laptop. Windows is better than ever, but it's still plagued by a frustrating update process and random bugs - Windows updates seem to bring more problems than they solve, and Microsoft really needs to figure out a better process for ensuring update releases that people can trust. In the brief time I spent with the laptop I found performance to be adequate for normal tasks. Overall, this is not the laptop for me - too many minor bugs and glitches add up to taint what is otherwise a potential game-changing laptop. Maybe next year, Microsoft....

Buy the Surface laptop 4, not 3!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start with this computer is beautiful but has many flaws. The design is very attractive, its sleek, it feels nice, its easy to use, and the display was great. Being an Xbox gamer I chose this over a MacBook pro just because of the seamless integration of windows across all my devices and I needed something for on the go use with work or army classes or some light gaming. I have three problems since buying this thing. One, the fan is loud and it gets hot, even with light use such as browsing YouTube and uploading some iCloud drive or one drive files. Second, the performance is terrible. I expected a lot more performance compared to the money I payed. "Light" Gaming means extra light, this thing struggles to run even very old games. I struggled to get any quality and resolution from Rome total war 2. Battery life is also terrible compared to some other devices such as a MacBook pro. I purchased this a month before realizing they were dropping the surface laptop 4 which is has those much needed upgrades. For those of you shopping, go with the Surface laptop 4!
