I bought this device for class and it is amazing!!! It is super responsive and supports full Microsoft programs and not just apps, has the full windows 10, and incredible battery life. Always had the device on the highest brightness and performance settings and lasted me most of the day. Was charging almost towards the end of the day. Great for media and content creation as well. The keyboard is awesome. Excellent key travel, well laid and responsive trackpad and every key has independent lighting. The pen is very responsive, fluid and is available in a variety of colors, also magnetic so can attach to the device without fear of losing it and has applications on almost every app and program. All in all excellent device, also very quiet and fabless Which makes it easier to use and does not overheat even with CPU and RAM intensive work. Would definitely recommend. Price is a bit on the high side but with Best Buy installments won’t be an issue.

Go for Bamboo ink if you want note taking

I used it for 10 days and exchanged it for a bamboo ink. This pen has its issues. READ THIS - Link has more details : https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/surfpronew-surfdrivers/surface-pro-intermittent-pen-inaccuracy-when-hand/28ef8566-0003-4c68-a964-6c2562423eb0 If you want to use this for note taking then I would suggest to go for bamboo ink which is 30$ cheaper. I really liked the surface pen but it has its issues. For me it manifested in the form of a noticeable offset in accuracy around the corners of the screen while writing. Almost every other line, I had to erase the last 1 or 2 words near the edges of the screen on the OneNote app. Drove me NUTS! For note taking, I believe Ipad Pro + Apple pencil are the best hands down. However, if you want to stick to the windows ecosystem (like me) and you want to mainly take notes, then WAIT for Microsoft to FIX THE BUG with the tilt sensor in the new surface pens. Until then, you will be happy with the Bamboo ink.

This is the first Surface Pen I've bought, and I chose it specifically because I wanted an easy way to mark up documents and textbooks while using my new Surface Pro 2017. Unfortunately, the tablet no longer is sold with the pen - a huge knock on MSFT to start - but the benefits of spending the extra $99 on one are substantial. It's very responsive, extremely easy to use and makes for a helpful stand-in for a trackpad/mouse (an issue iPad Pro owners are all too familiar with). Unfortunately, there are some issues with my unit. The button at the top only intermittently works - immediately after pairing, it works perfectly, but then a week after I'll try to use it to pull up OneNote or take a screenshot and it does literally nothing. I'm not sure why this is - the battery is brand new. It's not a deal breaker for me as I rarely use the shortcut, but it is an important feature of the pen that I think should have been ironed out before it went on sale. Either way, I'm happy with my purchase and it really completes the Surface Pro set for me.

I didn't buy this pen when I bought my surface pro because the pen was so expensive and I didn't think I'd use it. After having my surface pro for about a month, I started to see how the pen could be handy. I mainly use it for playing games because some things are just easier with a pen than a mouse! My main concern, besides price, was how to keep from losing it. But, it is magnetic and sticks right to the side of your surface pro. I used a rewards certificate to bring the price down a bit, but I still think it was worth it. It does use a AAAA (yes, 4 As) battery. They are not as prevalent as AA or AAA, but Best Buy, Lowe's and Walgreen's carries them. I'm still on the battery that came with the pen so the battery life is good.

    Form factor sells it

I've been using an Apple Pencil for close to two years nearly daily for notes -- while I prefer that experience for writing, it simply doesn't work with the MS ecosystem. For the MS ecosystem, I tried both the MS Surface Pen and Wacom's Bamboo offering. Simply, I found the Surface Pen to be passable in meetings although it's really the form factor that sells it. The weight and size I prefer to the Apple pencil but the magnet built in for connecting to the Surface is the greatest convenience. As a business traveler, it stays clipped on in my bag so I don't have to fumble for it on flights. That said, bringing the clip back (or at least making one purchasable) would be ideal too.

The pen is smooth and the digital ink glides across the screen without any noticeable delay and an impressive level of sensitivity! The surface settings also allow you to adjust the pen’s shortcut buttons and sensitivity settings. I can’t say whether it makes a difference on previous surface models, but using this on the Surface Book 2 is excellent for graphic design, writing and anything else one might use a stylus for. I used my friend’s pen that she got with the surface 4 pro and although both pens look similar, this new model is a big improvement! I probably wouldn’t get it if I had a Surface Book 1 or anything before that because Microsoft reported that not all surface models support the updated sensitivity with this pen.

easy to use, best pen available for surface pro

This pen really should be included with the surface pro, but not mandatory for good user experience. I don't use it every day, but when I want it, I'm glad it's there. I wish the magnetic hold was stronger to the side of my surface pro, but I'm grateful that it is as good as it is. I debated about getting the previous model pen or the bamboo pen (I borrowed a friends bamboo pen for a few days) but I'm glad I splurged on this one. It was very difficult to find in stock though. I thought I would want a clip for it, but being clip free and using the magnet on the left side of the surface pro screen is the slimmest and most convenient option for me. It does come off if I bump it sometimes and I worried I might bump it off and not notice ... then will lose a $100 pen

I bought one of these to pair with my Surface Pro because ... well, I can't really say why I bought it. I've used it a couple of times to take notes in a meeting, I'm not entirely sure it's any better than pen and paper for that purpose. But this is about the product itself. It's weighted nicely, feels natural to write with. The magnet is strong and the pen only pops off the side if it knocks into something. For me, it turned out to be more of a novelty than necessity, but if you really need a pen for your Pro, it works great for that.

Not a big fan of the stylus, however the surface pen has out-preformed any that I have used before. I watch other class-mates that have to plug their pens into their tablets to sync them, I never have that issue. I do not know how long the batteries will last, but for now it has given me no issues. I have purchased a set of different tips to try with this, but they are currently "on a slow boat from China" literally. Very interested to try out the different tips, but even before that, I would highly recommend this product. P.S.- Love the magnetic feature that holds the pen to the side of my surface book 2. works very well.

    Best option for Surface

There are other pen options for use with a Surface, but this one works the best IMHO. The new Surfaces and this new pen finally got the magnetic storage to a point where it is pretty good. Still wouldn't just throw it in a bag like that (though you wouldn't lose it in a bag). It is fine for carrying around the home/office. I use it for basic inking/markup and it is fine for that. You'd have to read an artist's review for that sort of insight. When you get down to it, if you have a Surface and want/need a pen, get MS's. Don't cheap out, they were literally designed for each other.

I purchased it to try compared to my original Surface Pen. From what I saw, the "new" Surface Pen didn't work much better or worse than the old. It still took pressure to change the width of the pen on screen. I recently tried the Apple Pencil and I was hoping for similar performance, but Surface Pen didn't track the angle of the pen, only how hard I was pressing with it. I ended up returning since it's the same as the old. Oh! And they removed the clip from the pen. I want to put it in my suit pocket so I don't lose it, but now you have to use the magnets or let it flop around in the pocket. Bad design decision.

I was using the previous version of this pen and liked it. But then, when I dropped it one too many times, I had to get a replacement. I really love the way this one writes. The sensitivity is fantastic and the writing is an improvement over the previous one that I had. The one thing I don't like is that this one no longer has a pocket clip on it. I rely on that clip to hook it too my surface case, hook it over a divider in my backpack so it doesn't slide to the bottom and also be a little more confident that it will stay in my pocket when I put it there. Overall though, it works really great and makes note taking in meetings and marking up slides and photos very easy,

I like this Surface Pen very much, but it's just so pricy! It's very comfortable writing in your hand and holding. The pressure point feels close enough to act like a real pen as the more pressure you apply the thicker the pen stroke (tested on 2017 Surface Pro, settings can be tweaked here as well). The button on top of the pen can function as an eraser and used to be set as a shortcut key for sketchpad, etc. As for the button near the bottom I haven't figured it out yet.

This is a great quality surface pen that does exactly what it is advertised to do. The sensitivity levels are great if you are a graphic artist and us this kind of pen. It was very easy to insert to battery and get it set up to use as a surface stylus for your devices. I love the slim lightweight style of this pen, just exactly what you need when working on a glass surface. The price of this quality pen is amazing and I would highly recommend this pen to those that work with the devices that are compatible with a surface pen. You can't go wrong with this one.

Up front, I subtracted a star because I feel this should either be cheaper or be included with a new surface. That being said, I think it is an excellent accessory to get the most out of your surface. The added tilt sensitivity makes art apps much more useful as this was always a limitation of stylus. The added detail of the pen over your finger when using any art app is a justification for buying this. The magnet to attach to your surface is also very strong so I don't worry as much as I used to about it being knocked loose while carrying around my laptop.

I own a surface pro 4 and while I lived that pen, this new pen feels better than the Apple Pencil in my opinion. The Apple Pencil failed on a click function and the eraser tip. That alone puts the surface pen ahead as far as capability. As for form and function again the Surface pen 2017 model takes the win! All in all I like the new pen and hope that Microsoft would give all users a gift card or maybe send all who purchased a new pen some extra nibs. I feel it is the least they can do. It is what makes them a better company than Apple. They are providing a true and honest product for the professional and student consumer.

I love using this pen. It is super easy to sync with my Microsoft surface, and I can start using right away. Everytime I click the back button of the pen I am asked what I would like to do with the tool, ensuring I am in the appropriate program. I also love that it does not have to be a Microsoft program to use. I use this the most with Adobe post production programs. The one thing I would change is a better way to secure it to the computer then a magnet. That is why I had to purchase a replacement in the first place

I purchased this pen with my burgundy Surface Laptop. I was sad it wasn't included because of the hefty price point. But I decided to purchase it anyway. It is very nice for a college student to be able to highlight and circle words in a text. The downside is that I find myself barely using it. With the Surface Laptop since the screen is connected, it is a bit uncomfortable to use. But other than that it was a good purchase, especially for an art student.

Had I not spent nearly 3k on my beloved new surface pro i7 w/ 1TB; I wouldn't even consider it. But it's all or nothing kinda deal for me. In all honesty, the previous model of the surface pen is more comfortable to use. the single button on the side is hard to click, I find my hand shaking because the button is recessed back into the pen and my big fingers just don't grip it, causing me to squeeze really hard til it clicks. But.. thi.. this pen has MAGNETIC latching! I like magents! And.. I like stylish accessories on my SP. Therefore, I LIKE it there!!
