The keyboard cover is not very well built, I would have liked to see a sturdier keyboard cover. I also think they could have designed a better pen.

I gave 3 stars only because it won't connect if you're using a case which is very inconvenient. Other than that it works great. Very strong connecting magnets and great felling material.

First pen that came with it was DOA. Keyboard was fine. Replaced the whole combo and seems to work. The double-click feature does not always function correctly.

Do not buy this. You will regret it after a year. It suddenly stops working and it can't be fixed in the store. You have to ship it out to get it fixed meaning you will be without a device for weeks. Its too expensive for nothing. Just buy a regular laptop that comes with a reliable keyboard.

The look and feel of the keyboard is of good quality--- I think that quality should be a given, especially with a Surface Pro. I want to stress out more how much better the signature keyboard is used than looked just at. The functionality and feel of the pen is awesome too—clicking on top, pressure sensitivity, comfort--check check and check. I used to have the first generation Surface Pro with keyboard and pen. After years in the game, this detachable keyboard has advanced a LOT! I used to not like the first one—it felt like I was typing on keyboard and I could break it if I was writing an angry email (no, never write when you’re angry). This keyboard is very stable, not only as I type but even as a protector to the surface when I close the screen. It made the Surface an actual laptop without the bulk of a real attached keyboard. Also, the Pen set up is ingenious. I like that is now tucked in the keyboard! I don’t have to worry about storing the pen anywhere, plus it charges it while it is in there. There is some overlap on the screen though—there will be some partial covering of the taskbar but it’s not a bad trade-off. I don’t know if anyone actually purchases other keyboards with the Surface Pro, or even older gen keyboards will work on the new ones. But I don’t think I will own a Surface Pro without this!

works well, included slot for charging pen is great. However, I'm not sure how long it will last being put through it's daily use. It feels so cheaply constructed. Honestly, it feels like cardboard with keys stuck on one side and cheap microfiber on the other.

First off, the back is covered in Alacantara, that stuff they make fancy car upholstery and phone cases out of. I love the feel and look of Alacantara. I have a similar iPad keyboard with just a vinyl back and the finish has worn off quickly. The Alacantara seems to be holding up much better. The keyboard itself is rather standard fare for a chiclet style, low travel keyboard. Spacing is standard and the keys are pretty much full size. Keys are backlit and have a few degrees of brightness, perfect for a darker conference room. As with the other Surface keyboards you can set it out flat or stick the top portion magnetically for a raised angle. The cool part is that the keyboard has a cavity for the flat Slim Pen. It's held in with a strong magnet and then is fully secured when the keyboard is closed, so there's no chance of losing it. It's much more comforting than the magnetic stick-on-the-side type. My only complaint so far is that it seems a little larger than the tablet itself, so it sticks out just a hair. If you have a Surface Pro X, you're going to want to this to make it into a full-service Laptop!

Must-Have for the Surface Pro X

If you're going to buy the Surface Pro-X (and that's a big if given its price and lack of supported apps), you need to buy this keyboard and slim pen. They keyboard and pen add little weight to the already light Surface Pro X. There are two clever features of the keyboard. The first is the storage area for the pen automatically charges the pen. If you’re an office worker, you’re not likely to use the pen often, but it's good to know it will be charged and ready for when you need it. The second nifty feature of the keyboard is that when you first open it into typing position, the magnets keep it from fully unfolding. That results in the the keyboard laying at a slight angle instead of completely flat, which is easier to type on. In that initial position, the pen stays hidden. If you need to use the pen, you completely unfold it flat. The pen itself is pressure sensitive. That would make it great to use for photo and drawing apps, except that the Surface Pro X is so slow, and I'm not sure which apps support its SQ1 processor. Also, the pen is slim and not round. You will either love it or hate. You should certainly test it out before committing to a purchase.

This keyboard/pen combo is a great addition to the Surface. The keyboard is solidly built but still thin. The keys have a good feel to them and a noticeable action to them when pressed, making it feel more like a standard keyboard. The pen hides nicely when not needed, and the magnets are incredibly strong. The pen works very well, certainly better than a finger. Using it in either Whiteboard or Paint 3D is very satisfying, more so than trying to use a mouse to the same effect. There are some extra options that come along with using the pen - (top) click to open a specific program etc. I would say that worked 95% of the time, but I don't know if it was the pen or the Surface being finicky. I would also say the writing to text recognition was more hit than miss - again not sure if that is an issue with the pen itself however.
