I suppose one could get by just fine without the type cover, but I use mine constantly. Perhaps if Windows would ever have more on screen touch keyboard options, I would be more inclined to forego the type cover. I am not the biggest fan of the on screen touch keyboard. So yeah I am always using this type cover. I love the size of it and i adapted instantly to typing on it. Maybe if i have any complaints it would be the touchpad. But i think it still does what it needs to do, I use a bluetooth mouse anyway instead.

I bought this keyboard when I bought my surface pro 3. I really like that it has back lighting, something most of my laptops haven't had. I also like that it is magnetic which makes attaching it to the surface pro simple. Just hover the SP3 over the keyboard and it attaches itself. The magnets also allow you to fold the top up, so that the keyboard is angled and easier to type on. The function buttons also come in very handy when changing settings ect. Overall, it turns the feel of the surface pro 3 into that of a laptop when you attach this keyboard and sit at a table or desk. Now if they could only find a way to make it cost a little less....

This keyboard really makes the Surface Pro 3 a well rounded laptop-tablet system. Easy to install by a strong magnet to hold keyboard in place. Easy to remove for use as a tablet.

I like the keyboard because of the functions that are available and how those functions integrate nicely into the Microsoft Surface. Overall, I am able to quickly access key functions without having to transition to the touchscreen.

This is a must have if you are going to get a Surface Pro 3. I love the red color, plus it goes great with my case. The price is a little high for a keyboard, but it is worth it.

I like the feel of the keyboard and the ease in attaching and detaching the keyboard from the computer and the power cord. It was good to have color choices. I settled on the blue.

This is essential for making the surface useable as a laptop while on the go. It was as natural to use as a separate keyboard and the touchpad works when a mouse isn't handy. I suggest a separate Bluetooth mouse though. As a cover it pops in and out of place easily and accurately. As a keyboard, it is designed well and responds flawlessly. In ones lap, it takes a little getting used to. But the keys are well placed and there is good feedback from the keys. The surface powers the keyboard when attached. Sadly the keyboard cannot be used unattached because it isn't self powered. There are times it'd be handy to have keyboard in lap and surface on a side table. I'd rather sacrifice the bulk and stick with this design. Overall I think Microsoft did a great job with this product.

The keyboard is slim and I love the way is attaches to the Surface. Also love the way it can shut down, hibernate, or sleep when you use the keyboard as a screen protector.

This keyboard is great and I love the fact that it can be used as a type of cover for the screen when it is not in use. It connects easily and you can remove it just as fast.

This is the perfect accessory to my Surface Pro 3. It's convenient, light and easy to use. It feels great on the finger tips as well so I am confident in my typing. Love it!

The design of the keyboard makes it extremely easy to attach to my SF3 in addition to it being lightweight and protecting my screen when being transported in my backpack.

The detachable keyboard for the Surface Pro 3 is perfect and a must have if you are working with a Surface Pro 3. While the on-screen keyboard is very functional, if you are using your device for business or a lot of typing, this turns the Surface into a true laptop. It works excellent and is as described. I was really worried it would work as well as I hoped, but it has met all of my expectations. The thumb mouse / scroll bar is a little weak, but I am using a wireless mouse so I don't worry about it. It works great for clicking, but scrolling up/down webpages is not very accurate. Other than that, the keyboard is outstanding.

Easily turn your tablet into a laptop. Easy to install. Great for protecting your screen. However, the touchscreen at the bottom of the keyboard is a little too sensitive. Maybe I just need some time to get used to it.

I appreciate the sturdiness of the keyboard, the keys seem durable, its lightweight. I dislike the velvety material, I worry it will fall off. Perhaps a vinyl finish.

This keyboard works really well! Expescially love the back lighting on the keyboard. Easy to use and sensitive to the touch where you don't have to push hard on the keys.

For the surface pro 3 it's a must to get the keyboard if you are doing a lot of typing and I have used it a lot and it works great . Easy to snap in and snap out and the keys light up which is another great feature

Sleek keyboard with soft touch buttons. Key stroke response is excellent. Cool magnetic strip connects keyboard. Makes easy to carry laptop because it is lightweight.

Helps keep screen from damage. Easy to connect and disconnect. Cover is stained and marked up easily. Cover buckles slightly when pressing keys when it's in the angled position. Mouse pad area is easy to control.

Much better than a separate bluetooth keyboard. i do a lot of web design and form design that requires a lot of typing. This keyboard was an excellent choice. I just wish there was a better way to attach the pen.

This keyboard is very easy to type on. It is back lit so in low light settings easy to see. Super easy to remove and put on. You won't regret purchasing this keyboard.
