I am a Mac user who had to start using a PC for work, so I got the new Windows 8. I have to say that it was very easy to use and has been very easy to get to know. I am still working on getting to know the way the app store works, but for basic functions, it is very easy and cool to use.

My grandson crashed his new hard drive so he needed a new hard drive and copy of Windows. I bought, he loaded and it works, so that is the bottom line. Windows is a tough product to reveiw because there are is only one choice for operating system on this type of hardware.

Windows 8.1 boots to a lock screen like a cell phone, but opens to the traditional desktop. It may take a bit to get used to the new layout and the fact that the start button is next to useless. Still, it is faster than 7 and should get you through for several years.

Clearly much thought was given to creating an easily installed program achieves it's goal without mass consumption of time.

Windows on MacBook OK

I needed Windows 8.1 installed on my MacBook Pro to run a specific Windows based program. I've been using Vista and XP previously, and I'm definitely not a fan of the changes. Each time Windows upgrades they make it more complex, instead of making it easier. The only thing I can say is it installed fairly easily.

Setup was self explanatory from using version 7. after that the tutorials were helpful in learning the new ways to utilize the windows. I do not have a touchscreen laptop, however, very intuitive to use the windows to jump back and forth between projects.

I rebuilt an older laptop for office work. This was a replacement for the Windows VIsta OS. Installation was easy.
Note: This was a 'clean' install to a new solid state drive (SSD) that I installed in the system, not an upgrade over the existing OS.

Takes some getting use to.. Exceptional if your primary machine is a Mac. But once you master it.. its actually pretty productive.. Window 7 and below users, prepare to be frustrated at first.

Clean install went easily on a new hard drive in my old laptop. Lost the bluetooth stack because of lack of drivers. I wasn't using it though. The machine is blazingly fast compared to the old Vista system, which wore out hard drives due to it's habitual accessing of them for minutes at a time. Yes I had disabled all the usual causes but it was still exceeding slow. It's like a new computer. The interface is a little different, but 8.1 lets you set up the defaults to boot into a desktop view. There are plenty of start menu button replacement apps if you miss your legacy windows.

Windows 8.1 has a lot of cool features. I checked out a book from the library about Windows 8.1 for dummies and I'm really learning a lot of the different features pretty quickly. I have heard that some people don't like it too much but I really enjoy using Windows .8. It really offers a lot of great features.

I have been using windows 8 for a while now first on a surface then on my desktop. I really enjoy the new start screen and search functions. The start screen may take a bit of getting used to but to me it seems like the obvious improvement to the start button. I am glad that in 8.1 they have added a quick way to go from the start screen to the desktop. and that oyu can power off in the start screen but other than that windows 8 is on the right track i Think.

I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. The process was straight foreword and I encountered no issues. It's a well designed program and I would recommend it to anyone. Best Buy had it in stock and the sales person made sure I got what I need.

Windows 8.1 for Mac Boot Camp works well

My son wanted a Windows 8.1 computer for his 11 birthday. Since he had a MacBook Pro with an i7 processor I asked a Best Buy Windows representative whether we should buy a dedicated Windows computer or use the MacBook Pro. The representative indicated that Windows 8.1 64-bit version would run well using Boot Camp on the MacBook Pro. Moreover, he indicated that the i7 processor and speed of the MacBook Pro would likely be better than that of a lower priced dedicated Windows computer.
We purchased the Windows 8.1 operating system which was stored in the back warehouse of Best Buy as the store shelf did not have the actual boxes containing the operating system. The reason for the 4 rather than 5 stars is we needed to have someone go to back area of Best Buy to bring up a Windows 8.1 box containing the DVD. This led to taking longer time to buy the Windows 8.1 DVD.
Windows 8.1 loaded on the Mac and now my son has use of both Mac OS X and Windows 8.1 on the same MacBook Pro.
