Customers enjoy the Xbox One Media Remote's ease of use, backlight, and comfortable size and design. Many appreciate its good battery life and the pleasant feel and texture. However, some users point out limitations in range and the need for a direct line of sight to the console. The infrared technology and occasional response time delays were also noted as potential drawbacks.

Good for streaming vs. controller

I got this since I also use my XB1 to stream with Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go. I like it better for streaming usage than the controller since the controller has a timed auto shut off, which is good to conserve its battery, but not ideal when you quickly want to pause. So the media remote's always-on is definitely great for streaming video. The remote feels nice is your hand, and it's pretty cool how the buttons light up when moved even slightly. However, I do wish the buttons also had easier to see designations to tell which button is which when not lit. I think a couple of the buttons could be placed better (mostly the Back button), but overall it's a great remote.

My wife loves using this remote for turning on and watching TV instead of her voice or a game controller. I also find it better than the game controller, and use it all the time when the rest of the house is sleeping and I don't want to use my voice for XBox controls. My only complaint is that it uses infrared instead of bluetooth to communicate with the XBox. This means I must have a direct line of sight to the XBox to get it to work.

Great Remote for Xbox One

Was hesitant to buy for my Xbox One since you can use the Xbox app and the controller. But the app doesn't always connect to the Xbox, and turning the controller off and on after every TV show is a pain and waste of the controller battery. This remote is simple and works right away. Cool effect that the buttons are softly backlit when you pick it up.

Works very well. Nice how it goes inactive to save battery for when you need it. Easily readable and navigated the Xbox Ones menus really well.

This is a great remote. The feel of it is quite nice and the controls are easy to follow. The only down fall I can see is that it needs a direct line of sight to the Xbox, so certain angles aren't easy to use it with. Also, it activates only when it's pointed at the Xbox which is great incase you accidentally hit it or sit on it, it won't change anything. So it's a pro and a con in my option.

It definitely makes watching videos (either online or blu-ray) infinitely easier than trying to suss out which XBox controller button does what. Honestly, I can't imagine how I made it without this thing for so long. The price is right, and if you use your XBOne for any sort of video watching, just get this and be immediately happier.
I only knocked it down a star because it does need a pretty absolute line of sight to the sensor (regular controller obviously doesn't), so I'll wind up leaning over sideways to use it sometimes, depending on where I'm sitting.
But seriously, this remote is a must-have.

Like the soft touch feel of the remote. It's fairly useful except when we want to put in a pin code to give someone access to content above their age.
Easy set up.

Using the Xbox One controller is great for games, but for anything else it can be tedious. This remote works great for all other functions. I use it for watching Netflix through the Xbox and it controls all functions, such as pause, play, FF and REW. Also so great for all Blu Ray movies. This remote lights up when you move it in your hand and is very easy to read. Has a nice smooth feeling in your hand and is light and comfortable to use. This was a great add on to the Xbox One. I highly recommend it.

If you don't happen to have the Kinect, then I would suggest investing in this remote. I use it so I don't drain the batteries from my controller and since I don't own the Kinect. Its small enough to fit in your hand and the buttons won't come loose either. Price isn't too bad either.

If you use your Xbox one for multimedia then you must have this remote. It's small and contains all the buttons you need while eliminating the ones you don't in one small lightweight package. It has a slight rubbery texture that feels good in the hand. The remote buttons light up when it's moved so it makes navigating that much easier. Would recommend this for sure.

You do need the Kinect Sensor to use this remote, it does not work via bluetooth, you have to point it at the Kinect. I bought my Xbox One at launch so I had no choice but to get the Kinect but they have since come out with the system by itself so I imagine most late adopters may not have one. I gave it 4 stars because while I do like the design and feel, it sometimes won't work until you point it DIRECTLY at the Kinect, then it seems to give you a little more leighway as far as how accurately you need to point it.

After discovering that it wasn't intuitive or easy to use the Xbox remote while watching bluray and 4K movies, we searched for an Xbox remote--much like the one we have enjoyed with our PS3. In my opinion, the PS3 remote is much better and its price is more or less justified. But we needed an Xbox remote for movie watching. Searching the options it appeared that this remote is best. I don't disagree as it is very good and does everything we want it to do. Arguably, this remote has simplified my family's movie-watching experience with the Xbox. In fact, it is very good and very solid and very intuitive. I just don't think Microsoft should charge as much as it does. Feature-wise, it lacks a lot when compared to the PS3 remote. But where this review isn't meant to be a comparison of two remotes, I will say that we are pleased with the remote and are happy we have it. It has become an essential (for us) accessory to our Xbox while we use the Xbox One for viewing 4K movies.

The backlight turns on when it detects motion. The device is well shaped for the hand. Accurate control.
