I Love It Even If It Has Issues

Bought this Zune back in June and loved, loved, loved it! I had it for about a month and then the little metal ring, there around the big button, started to lift off. No biggie, I bought a warranty thingie. We took it back to the store and left with a new Zune. Then a few more than a few weeks later it died. Like black screen of death, the comptuer no longer recognized it as a legitimate piece of electronics dead. I still had the warranty thingie so I took it back again. They don't have the pretty, shiny, red ones anymore. They only have nasty, not shiny, very drab black ones. :( So, reluctantly I take the nasty black Zune home. I failed to notice until I had spent the better part of an hour loading all my music and stuff on to it and getting it all set up to my liking that the small metal ring on this gothic little model is lifting up too. :( I just can't win. (It should be known that my best friend bought one too-in pink-and hasn't had a single problem with hers. I just keep getting the one with issues.) So I call Best Buy to see what my options are. Come to find out that Microsoft is no longer making the 4G Zune at all, in any colors. But since I bought the warranty thingie I can either upgrade to an 8G Zune, which they do have in red, or I can try a different brand all together. After much thought and research I decided to give the new iPod Nano a shot. People like iPods, right? They're good. Plus they own the market in accessories...and I had gotten to be sort of tired of returning busted Zunes to Best Buy. I swear they recognize me at the Customer Service desk now, "Look! She really did break another one. I told you so! You owe me five bucks!" So I abandoned my beloved red Zune and brought home a brand spankin' new, just released to the public, shiny, pretty, bright green 4th generation iPod Nano. I've had it for a little more than 24 hours now and I don't like it. I want my Zune back (well not MY Zune, but a Zune-one that's not broken). First of all, and my biggest complaint, iTunes. iTunes totally sucks. No way around it, the program sucks. It is not intuitive by any stretch of the imagination and the UI on the iPod really isn't any better. Then Apple has crammed so many "features" into the little thing that it's kind of a pain to use. The Zune may not do as many different things as the iPod does but the user interface is very sleek and very intuitive. I've been using the iPod and trying to love it but it's not happening. I miss my little red Zune. So after much internal debate, and much external cringing at the thought of taking yet another mp3 player back to Best Buy I have decided that I am taking the iPod back. I really miss my Zune. I loved it enough that I am willing to take my chances on a new one. I'm crossing my fingers that the newly released models won't have the issues that I dealt with on this smaller, older model I had before. I would HIGHLY advise you to buy the additional warranty. It's been the best $20 I ever spent.

    Best Let Down Ever

Simple, functional, capable? You first have to activate it based on the operating system listed on the side of the box. Truth be known, it will not work with all Microsoft Operating systems. I have one of the listed systems (Windows XP). More precisely, a Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2002, with the latest 3.0 Version downloads. According to the packaging; the System Requirements lists the narrowed down version of XP and Vista, plus the recommended use of a high-speed internet connection. So far so good...not really, to my surprise after connecting my Zune to my PC, it wasted no time in letting me know, I needed updates. Okay, can do. I was hoping for a plug and play, not plug and pray. But patience prevails and after 11.5 hours of downloading and tech support, I was back to my IPOD. I consider myself a smart enough shopper who bought into the hype. I DID like the FM feature and I was looking forward to easier music downloads (unlike my IPOD) only to be stuck at step one. Next obstacle, 1-800 tech support...who wasted no time in navigating me to the right click properties page. Quick answer, "...take it back to the store." Although he was suprised to here of a version 3 software, it really didn't matter. Has Microsoft grown to the point where it's own products can't talk to itself? Or am I to shell out more money to communicate with them. Think I'll keep my money.

when i first got the zune, it thought it would be pretty good, but i took a while until i actually got to put songs on it, i have 3 computers (yes, really), and for some reason 2 of them would not let me download the software, even after i did everything it said.i love taht it shows the album covers in big bright colors and i lov that u can make ur own backround. the radio is nice too, it has a good quality radio.if u get this i recommend getting the warranty too. they all seem to get messed up eventually.mine did. fortunately i got the warranty and i hav 160$ store credit, i am currently debating wheter to get the zune again, or try the ipod. i tink ill get the ipod and them compare them.umm....i dont really lik the circle thingy, the ipod wheel is better. there is a thing called "social" that allows to interact with other people's zunes, but i dont think anyone evr uses it. i guess its a pretty good deal if ur thinking of buying it

    The iPod is lacking.

I just bought mine yesterday and I'm impressed. My 30GB iPod I had for three years crapped out on me earlier this year, and I really needed music for the new school year. After my brother had gotten a black 4G Zune, I automatically wanted one because it just basically rocks. The sound is perfect, the videos and photos are beautiful, and the set up on the Zune is fantastic because its very easy to use. The screen is bright and crisp. The radio is crystal clear and the syncing is brilliant. The headphones are surprisingly good as well. The only problem with this is the software they give you. If you have some sort of program that protects you from spyware and viruses, you might have to delete the programs in order for the Zune set up to install properly. It's a pain in the butt, but its DEFINITELY well worth your money.

Well, here's the thing, I got this sweet new mp3 after researching for like ever. All was great, until I attempted to get the thing working. I connected the Zune to the computer and go to the website. Then, I find out that you have to download the setup software, which takes forever if you don't have high-speed, so I do, and then you have to download the actual software for Zune. Where the thing takes another hour to prepare your computer, then even more time to set the thing up! So, to sum it all up, this product has the DUMBEST setup process in the world. To say the least, do not even consider a Zune unless you have the high-speed internet to install all the jumk you need just to get the thing functioning. I returned my Zune for a Sansa View, that worked right out of the package, THANK YOU SANDISK!!!

    Best MP3 Ever

I just recieved my Zune 4GB MP3 a few days ago and I LOVE IT!! It is way better than my Creative Zen Nano that I used to use. It is also totally better than the I-pod. All of my friends that have the i-pod are wishing that they had a Zune! The screen is extremely clear, the music sounds great and the pictures are wonderful. I have already loaded all of the info from my old mp3 onto it and I still have tons of memory left. I love the way the info in the Zune is organized as well. It makes it easy to navigate and find your info. I was done setting it up in a matter of a few minutes including the online set up and loading my songs and pictures. The Zune.net/support website is great. You can go right to whatever topic you need and it is right there and in ENGLISH!. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!

The best part about this is that Zune Market will be selling MP3 formatted DRM free music the same with Amazon.com and Walmart. Why is this important? You can finally own high quality music that you can use in all your computers and all your devices. The Zune is the way to go and Microsoft promises to give users more features and updates to this device in the future. They did this already to last years Zune, that Zune can be updated for FREE to have all features of this years versions. Plus look at the price and compare.

    Very Nice Player

Have owned this for two weeks. Love the clear screen with videos and podcasts. Should not see any scratches on this player. Radio has good reception here in the mountains. Music sounds pretty good with the supplied earbuds. Had no problem downloading the Zune software to my Dell PC. It automatically imported all my music files, pics, and videos. So far the software has performed flawlessly. Twice my player has frozen up on me while scrolling through the menus. This was easily remedied with a quick reset (read the FAQ's or users manuel). All in all, I am very happy with the Microsoft Zune player.

This is the best mp3 player i ever got. Wireless sync make the adding a lot easy. The screen is so crystal, like a little HD player when you play video. The interface is beautiful. The FM turner can show the channel name. Album art and song name are large on the screen. But the headphone is really bad like ipod. Don't ever use it to play rock music, better get a studio headphone. I use my AKG k26p, which is greatly fitting Zune. There is a thing bother me a lot, it doesn't support Asian language, and there is no clock. You pretty much can't mod the software.

    Good product, bad Zune software

I bought the 4Gig Zune a few days ago. So far I have been pleased with the ease of use of the Zune interface and the sound quality. The radio is a great feature and has good reception in all areas of my home. However, the Zune software took a long time to install and every now and again the Zune program will not work (for an unknown reason). The only way to get it to work is restarting the computer. Overall the product is solid but the software needs help.

    Great Alternative to IPod

I purchased the Zune for my 11 year old daughter as an alternative to an IPod and she is very happy with it. I found it very easy to use the software and load music/videos and she has been very happy with all of the features. The only problem I've had is when I switched to a Vistas computer the Zune software would not recognize the device. However, the Zune customer service was great and they were able to work with me to have the problem resolved quickly.

Microsoft has followed Sony and Apple in proprietary land, making this device only useful if you are just starting out your music collection or have money or time to burn. The Zune is not compatable with any music downloaded from any site (with DRM) other than the Zune site. I decided to take it back and try a different brand!

I love this zune I got mine about 6 months ago. It totally beats Ipod. But I have had a hard time finding accessories for it. There is one case I have found and its $50. Another thing is that there is no clock. And that is the one thing I really do like about the Ipod. But otherwise....Its awesome!

Microsoft replaced my first 4gb Zune with a new one because the first one had no sound after about one hour of use. The replacement played sound for about 10 seconds then stopped. Now that one has to be returned. It's a great product that doesn't work!

I love the new Zune! It has great screen brightness, and is very easy to use. The FM radio also has a great signal, and has the scrolling digital readout. I would recommend buying a case, it is easy to hit the center button when it is in your pocket.
