I bought this game at first for someone as a Christmas gift but then decided to get a second copy for myself as the game play seemed interesting. So far I have not been let down but I'm only about 15 hours into the game and seem to be running around doing the side adventures more than the main story line. The only complaints I have are the relative load times from the different screens are a bit long but the graphics are great. The text in the story is a bit small to read and I have not figured out if there is a way to make it larger. I expect if you like Assassin Creed type of games you will also enjoy this as well.

I'd get it on PS4 or Xbone if I were you.

This game is fantastic. Just great gameplay, especially the combat, super addictive. The Uruk Hierarchy system is really neat as well, getting to know each orc that you hunt adds a lot of satisfaction to the slaying of them, especially when that orc has been labeled your "Nemesis" as a result of multiple stand-offs.
The story is somewhat interesting, but you'll find your self ignoring it much of the time. The game is really short if you just play through the story, and the ending is so abrupt that it's painful, and there really isn't a final boss at all, just the hammering of a single button for ten seconds, then a cutscene, then the game is over. Ka-pow.
The game is great though despite those things, and I highly recommend it, BUT I do NOT recommend you play this game on PS3 or Xbox 360. If you do, just know in advance that the game will be glitchy, glitchy, glitchy. Not all the time, mind you, but certainly glitchy enough to get in the way of your having fun. It might take 20 seconds to load the pause screen at times, the cutscenes before 'Uruk Duels' look like your old VeggieTales VHSs on fast-forward and sometimes the game will just run painfully slow and the sound will cut in and out, as if you were trying to play Titanfall on Windows 98.
They just didn't put much work into the 'Last-Gen' ports at all, it seems. Maybe it'll get patched, I don't know (Really, I have no idea if patches could fix it or not. Not a techy at all.), but if I were you I wouldn't bother getting it on PS3 or Xbox 360, if you're planning to upgrade soon.

This is good game based on a top notch story. Any fan of Middle Earth should be pleased. The gameplay leaves a little to be desired. Visually it is strong but it seems to need to keep loading which kind of breaks up the action. If you are in to Middle Earth you can certainly get lost in this one.

Game does have a couple glitches and one of the redeemable codes didn't work for two days. But the code was excepted finally and game requires restart on occasions. Overall the game is great loading time takes a while unfortunately but small price to pay great graphics and game play. Most frustrating was the instruction manual or lack of instructions on a complicated game. Also writing on screen during game is unusually small and i have a 32 inch TV. Should have used larger lettering or font.

This game is cool if you like the Lord of the Rings movies. Graphics are great. Lots of free roam game playing along with missions. It plays similar to the Assasins Creed games. The only negative is that the load times are pretty slow.

The game is actually really fun, but I'm not sure it's finished. Half of the cut scenes show a few seconds then go black then a few more seconds then go black. Sometimes you get caught out of the boundaries and can't get back in. Some of the actual good cutscenes are too quiet to hear because of stupid drumming music. The worst, most annoying thing is when you interogate someone, half of the time it plays that music and constant grunting over and over again until you quit the game and start back over.
Despite all of those things the game mechanics and ideas are good. The best part is that whenever someone kills you, they get promoted and grow stronger.

LAG on PS3

Lags terribly on the PS3, but I do love the story-line and game play when it isn't slowing down and taking years to load the next area.
I suggest getting it for PS4 only

This game is great, but it's not perfect! This game has a great story that goes well somewhere between the hobbit and the Lord of the rings trilogy. It's not your typical button masher. It's not your typical RPG. It's almost a new genre of its own. It's about 12-20 hrs of middle earth fun. It looks like it's going to be one of the best games of 2014 to come out on the PS4. If you're reading this review you can stop now and go ahead and buy it.

So after reading about this game a lot and seeing the videos and all the game play reviews etc, i was really excited to get my hands on this for Thanksgiving. So I start to play and during the very initial cut scenes, I notice a lag/delay between video and audio. Then when the tutorial starts, I switch screens which one needs to do often when equipping items, or just viewing the orc hierarchy or just getting intelligence etc, the screen would black out as if it is processing and after a few annoying tens of seconds, finally the screen would render. I thought this was probably a one off event. But as I kept playing, it continued to happen. SO I reboot the PS3 and start over. Same problem. Several restarts later, I finally google it up and realize that many PS3 owners are facing similar issues. So I finally raise a ticket with WB Games Support and all they had me do was to clean out my game data to get some more disk space. They closed the ticket, but i reopened it as the problem continues to exist. At the end of the day I think the root cause is some poor game design implementation. I do not know first hand if other console versions suffer from the same problem, but this is definitely a deal breaker.
I am surprised that none of the Best Buy purchasers mentioned this in their reviews.
Overall gameplay is nice. I really wanted to play this game so I am eating the hardship for now. I do not know if there will be any patch or update to resolve this but if you can bare this the game is good. The graphics is OK. The story line is not great and the action can get repetitive. Buying a PS4 was out of budget so i settled for getting this version.

The game is a great open expanse experience where the user has the freedom to explore at will. The game play is exciting and keeps you playing. The loading times on the play station are obnoxiously long however and I have experience shorter waits for bigger, more intense games.

The gameplay is really fun, the combat is really solid. The story isn't really that great, but being able to explore Mordor, more than makes up for it. If you like Assassin's Creed games or Batman Arkham games, you will love this game.

When I first played this game, it had some issues. Frame-rate and audio problems mostly. After an update, I did not notice as many.
However, killing orcs is loads of fun. I highly recommend this game, but try to get the PS4 version.

I'm not a hardcore gamer by any definition, but this game was not only accessible in terms of controls and storyline, but it actually delivered on the promise of a game that would mesh well with other elements of Tolkien's legendarium. While some liberties were taken, the spirit of Middle-Earth shines through. Granted, some portions of the plot were slightly cliched, overwrought, or just downright silly; but even given all of those shortcomings, I still haven't played a game that comes close to the standard set here in many years, both in terms of mechanics and enjoyment.

Not a bad game. Gameplay is enjoyable but there is a lag when loading. The slow load speed takes away from the enjoyment. I'm told the speeds are faster on the PS4

Great story feels a lot like assassins creed. Love that it's set in mordor, always wanted to see more of that location. I enjoy playing for the story but I'm not sure if I would want to replay after I'm done.

Great game. Very in-depth and involved. A few glitches and sound problems, but nothing that can't be fixed with a patch. Can be equated to a mix between the Assassins Creed games and Batman: Arkham games. Fighting style is that of Batman, but open-world exploration and parkour like movement style is like Assassins Creed.
All around GREAT game.

I've been having a video glitch on cut scenes and occasionally when I'm tearing through hordes of orcs they'll appear above me. Other than that, the game is great. I love the feel of an assassin's creed style lotr and the extra bonus of brutality equal to kratos.
