Customers often highlight the Surge Series SYNQ 720p DLP Mini Projector's decent picture quality and ease of use, along with its compact size and convenient setup. However, some users mention that the brightness could be improved, and that the focus mechanism and port accessibility present minor challenges. The projector's battery life is also generally well-received.

Out of the box, I was wowed by how compact this small projector is. I feel like it's the equivalent of 4 soda cans in size, but it's able to rock out and project an impressive picture display on my wall. If I didn't see it to believe it, I wouldn't think that this would make an 80 inch projection on my wall and I'd be pleased with it. Sure enough it lived up to the hype. Miroir has a crafty little device on their hands here and I'm wondering why I waited so long to get one.
This is a beautiful device to be used in a low lit or medium lit room. I was able to plug my Amazon FireStick and also my Roku stick. The HDMI on the back is such an ingenious move to utilize all these HDMI sticks that so many of us have. The battery life is really good on this as it gets me 2-3 hours of play time easily. I was more than content watching 720p content on my Miroir, but then I realized I could get 1080p content playing with my Roku stick. That was a big win for me to see that. I have a 55 inch tv, so being able to make this projector surpass that screen size and give me a good 80 inch of entertainment had me feeling like a kid in a candy store. The picture quality was great, and the sound quality coming from the built in speaker is acceptable.
The kickstand on the projector is a nice touch to help position it properly.

I gave this 5 stars because there are no cons for this projector at all. Over the past 30 years I have owned several projectors for home use and this is the best one. Just the fact that this projector is so small and has just as good picture quality is amazing. The fact that it only has HDMI and USB inputs works fine for me, since I stream everything. This projector has very loud sound, but it also has an aux which opens up more sound options. Setup was a breeze, this mini projector will probably make the full size one obsolete soon.

This thing was out of the box and I was projecting Return of the Jedi at 80 inches on my bedroom wall from my iPad in under 2 minutes. For quick and easy setup this thing is great.
There are a few minor things to be aware of:
The focus knob is positioned vertically on the side of this unit and it was difficult to make slight adjustments to. Frustratingly difficult.
There's no travel bag/protective cover/wrap once you take it out of the original box. The unit arrives like an iPhone wrapped in thin plastic to protect it from shipping damage. I would have thought at least a micro-fiber cloth bag or some type of lense cover would have come with this unit but it does not.
There is no method to adjust the height of the projection on the wall short of moving the entire unit. I'm used to projectors having kickstands to be able to slightly raise or lower the angle being projected to but nothing like that exists on this device.

not a bad projector for its size. and pretty bright for what it is. we had it on our walls with lights on and can still see it pretty good. a few things though first. box says what is included in box is micro usb power cable. however this was not in the box. being its pa portable projector, I would have liked to also see a carry case. something to put it in just to help protect it a bit better, being that there is no cap or anything to cover the lens. the hdmi cable provided is also very short. would like to have seen that a bit longer.
the built in speaker is decent. you can also plug in speakers via a 3.5mm jack if you desire. it has a screw on the bottom so you can place in a tripod.
set up was easy. we picked up a Chromecast so that we can use our phones, tablets etc with it. we love that you can also set it so that it projects up. we place it on a tv tray, and recline chairs back and can just look up and watch videos etc.
the back comes off so you can store the hdmi cord that came with it inside. or in our case the chromecast fits in it as well. however this goes back to why I wish it had a carry case as the power brick does not fit.
overall its nice. does the job, and does not cost an arm and a leg. if you are looking for something that you can easily move around and set up, and you are fine with it being 720p, then I recommend this.

Excellent Portable Projector

I'll be honest and say up front that I was not expecting to be impressed by this projector. The realities of actually using it has really exceeded my admittedly low going in expectations.
While I have tested this with my Roku, cable box, and MacBook Pro where it has truly come in handy is when I use it with my iPad Pro at work. I picked up a USB-C to HDMI cable and connected it to my iPad and this projector and boom, it worked like a charm. We have monthly staff meetings at work and my company does not provide us with a projector to do PowerPoint presentations so this little baby comes in rather handy. I can copy over a PowerPoint to my iPad and then point this projector at a blank white wall in our meeting room, dim the lights, and can really present the information I need to convey to the staff.
For other things like video just remember the max display resolution is 720p so it's not really suitable for a home theater experience. Keep that in mind and you'll enjoy using this projector. It gets plenty bright and it's fairly sharp up to about 15 feet away. More than that you'll lose both brightness and some clarity. It's small and light enough I can toss it in my backpack with the rest of my gear with no issues. Battery life could be better but it's gotten me through two 2-hour PP presentations in one day so it gets the job done in that department.
If you've been looking for a portable projector you could do much worse than this baby.

Last year I reviewed a projector that ended up providing significant entertainment value for my family, but in general, I find projectors to be a sort of "one trick pony:" they require very specific lighting conditions (in most cases), as well as a particular type and quality of surface for projecting in a way that provides sharp images. And, there are usually logistical and connectivity requirements that are more annoying than anything else…where do you run the wires, where do you mount the projector, keystone adjustments, etc etc.
All that said, mobile projectors are nothing new to me. I've always loved the idea of a pocket-sized projector that you can take from business meeting to business meeting, provided you actually need that sort of presentation capability…for most, a 2-in-1 laptop is enough to share information over a more informal meeting. And, for many in the business space, presentations are planned activities that normally have known environments associated with them…not the sort of "ad hoc" situations that a mobile projector might call for.
The SYNCQ M189 seems to be a balance of two projector extremes, between the media-centered home projector and the ultra-mobile pocket projector. It is a fully mobile solution, with an onboard 3 hour battery and built in speaker, but also puts out a fair amount of brightness (200 nits); the speaker is nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done for small settings. The projector puts out a maximum image of 80 inches on the diagonal at a max resolution of 720p, which is great for such a small device that has its own power source.
The device is entirely matte black, which shows a fair amount of fingerprints. It has a single focus wheel on one side for manual focus, a kickstand on the bottom for elevated viewing, and sports an auto-keystone function which does a decent job automatically adjusting the projected image based upon the angle of the projector and the distance to the projected screen. This auto-keystone function is by no means perfect and may be "good enough" for some, however, for more particular users I think they should offer an app or advanced settings to manually adjust the keystone (among other settings) as well.
Also nice is the connection area, which has space for your favorite streaming stick, as well as a USB port for powering that device. This area of the device can be fully enclosed with a
And, provided you have network connectivity and the appropriate controlling device, you can take your media experience virtually anywhere.
For business users, a Chromecast and a laptop with a Chrome Browser (or, if you want to pay a premium, a Pixelbook Go from Google) gets you full functionality with that Chromecast and the projector. For personal use, connecting everything and pointing this at the ceiling is a great way to watch movies in bed (provided you don't have a textured ceiling). The fan doesn't get too loud to get in the way of the media, but if it does, there is an audio jack if you want to connect headphones or an external speaker for a better experience.
At the end of the day, this is a very niche product and for many would be more of a luxury than a necessity, and at $350 it's not a cheap piece of technology to add to your collection. Still, the quality of the product and packaging is such that it is a solid purchase provided it meets that very specific use case for you. In terms of performance, aside from only putting out 200 nits and still requiring some basic control on lighting conditions, there's plenty being done well here by a company that I hadn't previously heard of.

This projector is easy to use and fun! You can project videos onto any surface (including the ceiling), and if you have wireless headphones you can integrate them as well. The built in speakers are loud, but you can hear the fan blowing within the machine. Due to this, I prefer to use my headphones.
Depending on the unique circumstances of the room you are in, you might have to spend some time placing the projector in different positions to find the best picture. There is no zoom setting. Optimal distance from the projector to the wall was about 5 to 6 feet for me. This gave me an 80+ inch view. It was a little dim from this distance, but it wasn't that bad. Typically, the closer the machine is to the wall, the brighter the picture will be. However when I sat the projector on the floor to show on my ceiling (9 feet high), the picture was crisp and bright.
If I could change one thing about the device, I would make it wifi enabled.

Love this thing! I use it in my living room with Roku. Works perfectly and picture quality is good. Easy to move around and doesn't take up much space at all. Would recommend.
