cronenberg's classic film existenz is definitely a must have for fans of sci-fi/fantasy & would likely appeal to gamers as well. this film is not a sequel to videodrome (another cronenberg classic) however. the film focuses on a game creator on the run after she discovers that someone wants her dead. the film viewer is still not sure whether the creator is trapped inside one of her games or if she actually is in great trouble. ofcourse, that's the fun concept behind the entire film. you can never be to sure of anyone or anything & everything is subject to change at some given point in the film. while not excessively violent, there are some scenes of carnage here or there. if you liked the matrix but were kind of put off by the special effects & wanted something a tad bit less formulaic, you might find yourself a great fan of existenz. i wish cronenberg had made a sequel to this one although i'm not sure what more you could do with the story.

From director David Cronenberg of "The Fly" and "Eastern Promises", Law is a PR guard to a wanted dead video game designer (Leigh) who has developed an intense reality altering game both play while running from assassins. Slow-paced, strange twists, not for die-hard action fans or poor attention span children. Smartly attacks technologies for altering human thought. Special effects crude for 1998, but story is superb.
