Could be good if apps can be fixed

I was very excited about this product and pre-ordered it as soon as I could. I received it last week, and followed the online directions for setting it up. Updating the firmware, running through the channel search and downloading guide information were all fairly straightforward if one reads and follows the directions. In less than an hour I had set it up and found 54 channels. However, the apps just don't work. Not yet. Selecting a program from the guide causes the program to try to load, but instead it just stutters, cycles, stutters some more, cycles some more, and stutters. All stations. I had the same experience using a Roku and an Apple TV. It's not antenna placement because when I switch out the Airwave for a $5 set of rabbit ears in the same location, I see perfect clarity and reception. I had looked forward to a streaming solution that would prevent my having to switch inputs when going from streaming apps to over-the-air stations, but this is just not working. If the apps are updated within the next few days, I'll keep it. If not, it's going back.

I waited for this product to come out since the introduction at CES 2017. On the surface, this is a product that has great potential. However, it fails to come close to my expectations. The GOOD! It was easy to set up, even without the directions being included. The interface was very nice to see what was on all the channels and you can scroll through stations very fast. The BAD! I received terrible reception and had very choppy signals coming through. I tried three different locations and all were equally bad I am shocked that this won't connect to 5ghz - I couldn't get it to connect to my router even 20 ft away(was saying weak signal) which just so happened to be the place where I received the most channels. Scanning for channels seemingly takes forever ---- I moved it to three different places and every time I waited about 10 minutes to load the channels. For $150 I was expecting some more quality materials - very unimpressed Power bumps - guess what you have to re-scan for your channels - every time I unplugged to find a new location I had to rescan... I will go back to my ugly antenna hanging out in my living room instead of this. I was pulling for this product and wanted it to work but it is a terrible effort and shouldn't be available currently.

    NOT READY FOR PRODUCTION

I received my unit yesterday and quickly setup the antenna with no problem, the antenna itself is fine. Its the APP that is CR*P. I installed the app on my fire tv 2 yesterday and immediately connected to the antenna and then i scanned the channels. Found 30, super excited about that and cant get ready to start watching. Then i try to select guide, app crashes, have to reconnect to antenna, try guide again, crashes again. This went on for about 30 minutes before i finally gave up. So i go to my apple tv 4 in the bedroom, app installs, connects to antenna, scans and finds plenty of channels, guide appears but is blank and I cant select any channels. Getting more and more frustrated so i go to my apple tv 4k in the living room and it has the same experience as the apple tv4. If the apps arent fixed within my 15 day window to return then they lose a customer for life. Cant deal with a poor released product when i was so excited for the release of this one. Not to mention they pushed the release date back at least three times, they should have done it again and released at Christmas. I also have their curve 50 and love that product.

    Great Solution for Cord-Cutting

I read the reviews here first. And then I tried it out anyway. I used an Amazon Firestick to connect so I can't vouch for the other options but this was a rather pleasant setup. Regarding the instructions, I don't know if the company is aiming for paperless or what but the link to setup instructions is the first thing you see printed on the packaging when you take the antenna out of the box. I'm not entirely sure what people here found so baffling about that. I'm perfectly fine with not having to keep/throw away another set of simple paper instructions I can find online. The inside packaging is cute. Clean presentation, overall. Setup was very smooth until the scanning portion. What you'll find is the best location for the antenna isn't necessarily near your TV and you'll want to have your laptop/phone used for antenna setup near your antenna if you choose wireless. To find the best TV signal, I tried TVFool and the TV Antenna Helper Free app and it ended up being a mix of the two. I scanned at a few different angles and finally found a steady one that picked up 12 of the big channels (NBC, Fox, CBS, etc.). If your picture is stuttering/chopping every few seconds, try bringing up the menu and toggling the ClearPix A/B. This tends to clear everything right up although I still get the rare skip. I may keep adjusting/rescanning to see if I can improve the signal but I'm fine with it where it is. Oh and a CC option was a nice bonus! Solid product for taking a step away from the cable companies. If they can improve the antenna issues (placement is not intuitive and a little picky on signal path), I think this product is perfect for what it does: get you the main channels in high-def without monthly fees.

I preordered this item with great anticipation and when it finally arrived was Totally disappointed. The signals on many channels would pixilate and on others the sound didn't match the words. Only a few channels worked correctly. I spent a few hours over a couple of days trying to get it to work properly. I even plugged it directly to my router but no change, I moved the antenna to different spots in my house and redid the channel scans and all for naught. Also the antenna is not amplified like the one I already have so its range is far less than my other one. What a shame, this product is a good idea but is not ready for prime time !!! I hope in the future hope they can improve on this and it surely needs an amplified antenna as the range of this one is about 30 miles. Be patient and wait for better technology in the future.

Comes with no instructions and is quite difficult for the average person to set up, doesn't have an app for Android TV including Nvidia shield. Once you have it setup and connected to an Amazon fire TV or another compatible device it gets fewer channels than a comparable antenna and still doesn't work all the time. After many months of delays and mohu wasting everyone's Time what a gigantic waste of money. All and all I'd say do not buy it save yourself and best buys customer service from having to deal with the return.

Out of the box it was super easy to set up. Immediately the antenna picked up 33 channels. Not a single channel works. Ehen i choose a channel on the provided guide, it just says, "channel unavailable". I also set it up in my office Roku first, then when i turned on my fireTV all the channels were already there, no scanning necessary, but still none of them work or even try to work. This brings we to my other 4 Roku's. Not only did they not automatically find the same channels as the other devices, but they won't scan at all. Been spinning at 0% for over an hour. I understand there are issues and it is a new product, but are we supposed to expect it to magically start working? I am also well within range of all of these channels, they pick up fine on my 15 year old $10 antenna.

time consuming, cranky and once you get it to work it may only be temporary and next session have to start over again. Each TV on the network acts independently and requires individual set-up and RE-set-ups Good Idea, we were eagerly looking forward to this antenna but disappointed as it is clearly not yet ready for public release We will go a different route with a different high quality antenna and use a amplified distribution block to reach the individual TVs in the home. I am a qualified E-tech and advanced Ham Radio licensee and this is just too much trouble for me, I imagine novice users will be less pleased. IF they get the bugs worked out, might be a different story

Just got my Airwave today in the mail! I was surprised there weren't any setup instructions in the box (and I had a bit of difficulty with this I'll detail below) but overall my experience with this antenna was overwhelmingly positive. The un-boxing was actually way easier than usual, the packaging used for this product was one of the most convenient I've ever seen. Everything was neatly folded into its own little section of the box, and there wasn't any horrible tape, saran wrap or plastic nonsense to get through. The lack of instructions, though, was an impediment. I connected it wrong first (with the cable jack), before figuring out where everything was suppose to go. I didn't realize there were instructions online until I came to this website to leave a review, my bad. Almost all of the boxing was recyclable cardboard too, a major plus in my eyes. The antenna itself is a bit over a foot wide and tall, lightweight and pretty sleek looking. The power brick it comes with wasn't as attractive, but oh well. I used the curved face of the antenna to hide the cords that have to plug into the TV from it. All together, took about 10 minutes for me to set up the hardware, there was nothing obtuse. Basic Ethernet cord (assuming for the radio? Which sounds great!), cable jack, and power cord were all included. The interface for this thing to setup was a great UI and user experience, very easy to understand and navigate. Once the device is connected, you can immediately scan for channels. After running the channel scan, I got about 50 channels, which is awesome since my old antenna only found 18. However, not all of those channels came in reliably...some of them were a bit grainy or choppy. I'd say about 40 of them came in smooth, which was still really great. The ones that did come in cleanly were excellent, as good if not better than cable quality and definitely better than internet streaming. Extra awesome was that it picked up Fox and CW clearly, I was very impressed with that. Streaming worked better for me on my ipad than on my android, not sure if that's because of the OS or something else. Finding the app was a bit convoluted, there were multiple apps with the word "Airwave" in their title and none of them were obviously this product (and none of them had Greenwave or Mohu in the title). Worked great after it was installed, very cool feature. Traveling to different rooms and taking my TV with me is a massive gain from my previous setup. I've never seen any other antenna like it, it reminds me of smart products like the Amazon Echo or Myfi pods and looks great with my decor. I can see this antenna being a mainstay staple in the average home, since $150 is less than 2 months worth of cable but it delivers almost as many channels as a basic subscription. Overall, very much worth its price tag!

Well, got my Airwave from Best Buy today............so far, an utter failure in every way. Nothing works out of the box as advertized. After having to master reset everything at least 8 times and starting over, Fire TV finally sees that there is an Airwave out there and then promptly tells me the code is wrong. (I didn't change anything) In fact, it never asked for a code, it just says it's wrong. To add insult to injury, tech support closes at 17:00 Eastern time, so you will never get to talk to them unless you take a day off from work if you live west of the rockies. Their QA is a joke. This product is definitely not ready for prime time. :(

    Unreliable - Not Recommended

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Unfortunately, at this time (October 2017), the AirWave is too unreliable and not recommended. While the overall concept is great, Mohu has fallen short in delivering a useable product. Here are a few observations. Setup: 3/5. Overall, setting up AirWave was pretty straightforward. While instructions are not provided, Mohu’s website has a detailed setup page. During setup, I wanted to connect the AirWave to my router’s 5ghz band (same wireless channel as my Roku). I was pretty surprised that AirWave wasn’t able to locate a 5ghz wireless signal. The entire setup process took about 20 minutes. Antenna Strength: 1/5. I am really disappointed by AirWave’s antenna signal strength. I have the AirWave placed near a window on the second level of my house, facing in the direction of my area’s TV stations. Despite being only 5 miles from the stations, I can’t pick up a consistent signal. While AirWave recognized 44 channels during setup, most channels are very choppy. On a side note, I have a cheap flat antenna, which is not placed by a window and it produces a near perfect signal. This makes me think that Mohu is using a sub-par antenna within the AirWave. Reliability: 1/5. Yesterday, I was able to access the scanned channels, despite the signal distruptions. Today, none of the channels worked. When I tried to select a channel, I received a message that the channel was unavailable. This happened for every channel. I was finally able to “fix” this by re-scanning the channels, but I wouldn’t consider this an actual fix. Having to constantly re-scan for channels will grow tiresome quickly. UI (on Roku): 4/5. On Roku, the user interface is nice. I like that the AirWave has a simple to use TV guide. However, the guide’s selector seems to default to shows an hour ahead of the current time. This means I need to navigate back in order to see what shows are currently on. Not a big deal, just a little annoying. Hardware: 1/5. As others have commented, the build feels a bit cheap. The coaxial cord is flimsy, the actual AirWave body has a thin plastic feel about it and the device plugs into a heavy power brick. Value: 1/5. I’m not sure if the problems above are attributed to the hardware, software or both. Despite the reason(s), for $150, I don’t feel that Mohu should have released the product at this time. While I’m sure a lot of testing took place before release, it’s hard to imagine that Mohu would have missed some of these glaring issues. The product feels rushed and incomplete, even after all of the product delays. At this time, you might be better off with a $20 antenna and wait for Mohu to optimize the software and/or release the next version.

It may be sold by Best Buy but it is definitely not a "Best Buy". Great concept. Extremely poor implementation. 1) No user guide - you have to go on line to find a user guide. 2) On line user guide in minimal. 3) Very weak signal reception. Only two of five stations were clear. My previous cheap flat antenna got four of the five very clear and the fifth was better than the Mohu antenna. 4) Very weak broadcast to my Rokus. Only one within 6 feet of the antenna picked up a clear signal. I was hoping this would work so I could use one antenna for all four of my home TVs. TANSTAAFL

When I was finally able to get it set up on my roku all it did was buffer and then go to channel not available. If the channel did come in the dialogue and picture were not in sync. Also tried ion my Apple TV and the app wouldn't even scan the channels. How could a company release a product with so many deficiencies. I have a gigabit router, internet service with 100 down and 10 up so its not my equipment. I waited months for this device and its was an absolute waste of my time to even try it. this doesn't even look like it was beta tested. So going back to Best Buy.

Released on a sunday, so no support today. Set up is not very user friendly. It doesn’t tell you when the airwave is connected to the internet and the WiFi address given out by the airwave still showed up after it was connected, confusing. You must rescan for channels for each tv ( using roku) and each tv picks up different number on channels and the airwave didn’t move 14 on one could find any 3 times on the second. And now the device disappeared From both TVs. Can’t be the internet because red zone on sling is working fine.

Went through the installation process, linked it with my Roku, and everything worked fine...for a few hours. Then almost all channels stopped working. I didn't even move the antenna. I kept trying to make it work for a few days (resetting, trying different antenna locations, et cetera) but I had no luck. My $10 antenna picks up more channels than the Airwave. I have no clue why it worked fine for those first few hours and then stopped. I guess it's a software issue. Very disappointing, as the concept of this product was so useful.

I purchase 2 indoor antennas. This antenna picked up most of the same channels but was unable to deliver a continuous picture. The other unit worked perfect delivering clear and continuous pictures and a few more channels. Also very slow user interface and buggy, often hanging my ROKU. I could not test with my APPLE TV (because it is not version 4 and above). I like the concept of the device but right now it is not ready for prime time. They released this product before it was ready. They also need a better antenna.

I pre-ordered the Mohu Airwave back in Aug based on the great capabilities it was claiming. The ability to stream local channels to multiple devices in the home eliminating the need to worry about coaxial cabling was a great idea. Unfortunately this tech is too new and this particular product simply does not perform. After hooking up the unit all local stations identified were extremely choppy with none receiving a clear signal. After trial and error the device was hooked up at 7 locations throughout my home. Unfortunately none were able to receive even 1 channel without a severe stutter. To be clear I am also using Google's mesh network in my home so the device should have had a very strong internal wireless and hardwired connection to communicate with my devices. I also found out after purchase that the unit did not support android at launch to the contrary to its advertisements. I did purchase a separate Roku unit just to be able to test this unit. After a weekend of frustration I returned the item to best buy and purchased the Mohu amplified leaf. It was up and running at the original location of the airwave on its first try. All channels received without stutter. I am very satisfied with the amplified leaf but somewhat flabbergasted that Mohu would not install the same antenna simply in the airwave as it is currently their flagship product and if they did there is something severely lost in translation. Buyer Beware... the air wave is not ready despite that it is a great concept.

I live in the Los Angeles area (South Bay). Took me about 20 minutes to setup. Followed the Quick Setup Guide without issue. Found over 50 channels. Most are junk, but the major ones (CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, etc.) are useful. I have DirecTVNOW (which I like) for the normal cable channels I like and HBO, but this brings in local news and sports. The only Cons: 1) channels are slow to load, and 2) only one channel at a time... which means multiple Roku's have to watch the same live TV channel. Not really a problem for me, but is would be nice to share the antenna and then be able to watch different shows. I have it working on Roku 3's and looking forward to trying on my gen 3 AppleTV (waiting for the app to update, currently has a bug).

Mohu brings a solid product which needs work.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First the good part, it does work. Connected to the Airwave controller first try and I picked up 52 channels when the scan completed (it does take time to scan), once the guide had populated you can watch them, the guide did seem to take a while to populate the channels, you can go into 'My Channels' and select the channels of interest and they populate right away. App is installed on Roku (main TV) and Amazon FireTV (secondary TV), on both the App functioned (although it needs work, see later). The TV picture is excellent with no break up or distortion Sound freezes when first starting a channel and is then smooth, overall the product is pretty impressive when it functions. The bad part, the app really needs a lot of work, it is very disappointing, it really is buggy and doesn't work too well, sometimes requires multiple attempts to get into the guide. Channels get lost and the device disconnects when changing channel and you need to rescan the channels. With the good and bad taken into account the Mohu Airwave was worth buying, the app can only get better (hopefully). If you buy it understanding it needs work you won't be disappointed, if you are expecting perfection you might be upset. Overall I would recommend the product.

So I said what the heck & I cut my cable to purchase the Air-Wave. I was a little irked that there were no instructions but googled it and found them quickly. Easy to set up. The first time I scanned for channels I received 25. I moved it around a few time & finally was able to received 53. I am happy with my purchase and excited about the money it will save me in the long run.
