I loved the Wonder Boy remake, and this one is very similar. Gorgeous art style, fantastic gameplay, old school but modern charm. A total delight!

What an amazing game. Not the easiest so don’t be fooled by the cartoon style graphics. Lots of puzzles everywhere and excellent boss battles.

Great spiritual sequel to the Monster World games

If you are a veteran of the 8/16-bit era, you may remember the Wonder Boy games. The series basically split, with one line going down the action-adventure route with the "Monster World" games. In particular, this game is patterned after Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. In that game, you are cursed early on into an animal form, and slowly explore the world to remove said curse, while also picking up new animal forms along the way to help you progress. This new "Monster Boy" follows a similar progression, and while it's a slow starter, once it gets rolling (especially with the frog transformation), you won't want to put it down. Graphically, it looks quite nice. Perhaps not as nice as the remake of Dragon's Trap, but still good. The soundtrack has some outstanding tunes, with several industry veterans lending their compositions to the game, like Michiru Yamane, Yuzo Koshiro, and Motoi Sakuraba. If you want to get those old-school feels, and loved the Monster World series (or perhaps really enjoyed Zelda II back in the day), buy this game. You won't regret it.

When I was a youngster I recall playing this game on the Sega Master System. It brings back great memories of hanging out with my grandpa and playing through this game together. This remake or reimagining if you will is beautiful with the graphical and sound updates. It has been excellent and a reliving of some great memories playing through this. If you've never played this game I'd compare it to a Zelda or Castlevania type of game, except it's lacking on puzzles, but heavy in secrets. Good luck finding them all!

Fans of Wonder Boy, Owl Boy or Shantae the Half-Genie Hero will love this game for the impressive visual style and well balanced action and style. This game is considered as a modern day revival of the original Wonder Boy game and it looks fantastic on the Nintendo Switch. The music and soundtrack are amazing and levels are more challenging then you might imagine for a platform style game. Lots of collectibles to find also so the game has great replay value.

I wasn’t sure this game would be good, so I downloaded a free demo first, and boy am I glad I did. After playing through the demo several times, I quickly tracked down a physical copy, and hurried over to purchase it. This new game, a sequel to the remade “Wonder Boy” is every bit a top notch contender to the all the old school platformers from the 80s and 90s and a definite must own for any Switch owner. I would strongly recommend picking this one up.

This is a great action platformer with a challenging yet rewarding level of difficulty. The game allows you to transform into various animals or monsters, each with their own abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Levels are uniquely constructed to utilize interesting dynamics in playstyle. You will have to use your monster forms' unique abilities to make it through each new level. The art style makes you feel as if you are playing an animated cartoon.

    A Beautiful Throwback

While Monster Boy is a side-scrolling adventure throwback to the 16-bit era, this is by no means a short & basic game like many of those. While you attack enemies & jump to platforms, this is a lengthy 20+ hour journey with role-playing elements. And while it pays homage to that era, the graphics are by no means simplistic. Yes, they're cartoony, but they're hand-drawn & gorgeous in motion. This is one of the best games of 2018, IMO. Buy it.

Decent little game. The combat is a bit simple but the artstyle is wonderful. The story is fun, if a bit bland, but the characters are all interesting. The physical edition comes with a cute little manual that was a nice surprise.

I am a fan of Wonder Boy so this game had my interest from the time it was first announced. After picking it up and playing through it, I can honestly say I enjoyed it more than Wonder Boy and it exceeded my expectations! If you are looking for a fun game that looks great and offers a challenge, then look no further. Would highly recommend!
