Customers often highlight the extensive gameplay and abundant content as major strengths of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Many praise the game's large roster of monsters and the portability of the Switch version, while some mention a challenging difficulty and less streamlined controls compared to more recent entries in the series. The game's classic Monster Hunter formula and variety of weapons are also frequently cited as positive aspects.

Great Monster Hunter game enhanced for the switch. I initially played Monster Hunter generations for the 3ds and this version is significantly better due to upgraded graphics with even more content then the 3ds version. There is also crossplay between this version and the 3ds version.

This game has an order of magnitude more to do than MH:W. It may lack some of the new features but the game or than makes up for it with variety, polish, and an avalanche of ways to challenge your hunter abilities. The portability makes it a.lot more accessible, too, and the graphics and frame rate hold up well when undocked. If you're u have any interest in monster Hunter then playing this is a no-brainer.

I'm a newcomer to MH. I've never played any of the games in the franchise. I always wanted to dip a toe in, but have been wary due to the countless comments about it being way hardcore. Turns out, it ticks every one of my addiction boxes. The gameplay loop of village > prep > hunt > craft/upgrade > village is very tight, but the story is barebones (I guess other games in the series have a more fleshed out story, but all I know from the 40 hours I've put in so far is that monsters have body parts I need to make cool looking armor, so I better do quests where I hunt those monsters if I want the cool armor).
Unlike traditional MMO's, your character doesn't level up and get more stats. You can upgrade your gear, and get buffs from items and meals, but your ability to take down the giant monsters relies mostly on your personal skill. With the many potential combinations of weapons, styles, and equipable arts, there's guaranteed to be a playstyle for everyone (right now I'm playing Dual Swords, Aerial style, but have dabbled with a LBG Striker).
Love the fact that the single player is perfectly adequate, and that the multiplayer experience has both local and network play. I just wish more of my friends would get on board so I could have someone to take down these giant monsters with.

MHGU is such an amazing game. I got it for 10 bucks, but even at full price, with the amount of content and hours it will take you, its well worth it. Great place to jump into an experience old school style Monster Hunter

Let me say right of the bat: Monster Hunter World, is a step in the right direction. This game is really fun, and a great way to "catch up" with all things monster hunter. However you'll find as I have that you never realize how good a few quality of life upgrades can be for a game until you actually experience them first hand. I've played every single monster hunter game and I love everything about the series as a whole. That being said I really wish this didn't come out so close to world because other than monsters this game really doesn't have anything that I can say it does better than world. It cant be fairly compared to world because this is a celebration of past monster hunters not the latest chapter in the story that is monster hunter.
Still it's worth the purchase and you will not be disappointed with this game. Just remember that this game came out BEFORE world.

I've been playing the 3DS version for a while now. I was very pleased to find out I could transfer my 3DS data to the Switch via the utility available on the Eshop. However, this is an upgraded version, so data cannot be transferred backwards to the 3DS. That having been said:
This is an upgraded version of the 3DS game. There are more monsters, more quests, and more gear. It seems a bit clunky, but this came out BEFORE MH World and so some of the mechanics aren't the greatest. It's fun, though, and entertaining. There aren't many players anymore for multiplayer. This isn't an issue because I like to play solo anyway.
This was a good deal and a good addition to my collection, esp. for the price.

Port of a 3DS game but currently the only way to enjoy Monster Hunter on Switch. The HD graphics is a nice touch but was a little bothered by the loading screens in between sections. Thought with the Switch's power the loading would be less but I'm just nitpicking. Fun game overall

This is another great Monster Hunter game. If you've played one before you know the drill: hunt monsters, upgrade your gear, hunt stronger monsters, get even better gear and repeat. Lots of fun!

With the highest count of monsters in any Monster Hunter game, you’re going to be sinking lots of hours into this game. Quality of life changes you might have been used to in Worlds is gone, but that doesn’t make the game worst. In fact, it makes it better! Instant classic!

Monster Hunter has a system...and the system is a bit formulaic...but that's fine. That's exactly what I want. I want to explore...fight huge things and get my loot. I want to be surprised by the amount of time I'm playing...even though I shouldn't be at this point.

Always been a big fan of the monster Hunter series. For newcomers to this series give it some time and it will click. Extremely fun game with three other friends while playing online. This game is also full of content which will give you easily over 100 hours of gameplay.

I've been waiting the Monster Hunter series to appear on Switch for a long time. I know it's finally gonna come! Awesome game as usual in the series, however very different than the Monster Hunter - World. Note this is exactly the same as Monster Hunter XX from Japan.

It's definitely a good entry point into the classic monster hunter gameplay for anyone curious about the series and have a switch. I only put 50 hours into the 3ds version and it was definitely worth the purchase to continue my save file and have new content ready to go.

So this game is a great option for anyone who hasn't played Monster Hunter world. This plays like an old school MH game but is easily the most refined in that regard.
The beginning started slow but once you get the ability to hunt bigger monsters this game is a ton of fun. Lots of content and online multiplayer makes this a easy buy for switch fans.

This is a pretty fun game, but it's very obviously a port from the DS. I was hoping more for an open world Breath of the Wild type game, but with huge monsters to fight . (Kinda of like Monster Hunter Tri, which was released for the Wii U.)
However, this is more "I want to go fight this monster. Here is a closed area with somewhere between 3 and 10 rooms. The monster will be in there." Plus, there are loading screens between each room.
It's fun enough, but it's kind of clunky for a current generation console.
That being said, if you're into a lot of different types of combat, this is the game for you. There's at least 10 hours of training, easy. (You don't have to do them, but they are there.) Plus a LOT more monsters than there are on Monster Hunter World (which was released on Xbox and Playstation).
All in all, this is a pretty decent game, with LOTS of hours of play on it, but it feels a little dated for a modern console.

These monster Hunter games are known for their strong character building. I actually purchased this on clearance. Amazon couldn't match Best buy's prices this time.
