Alex O'Loughlin is the Best Vampire of All Time, sexy and smoldering. The love story between Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), a private investigator and Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), a Buzzwire reporter, is a thread throughout the series - will they get together? Their dance is romantic. Their first kiss, magnetic. Their second kiss, electric. With an arch of his brow, purse of his lips or purposeful walk, Alex gives Mick life, expression, and movement. Josef Kostan (Jason Dohring) is Mick's best friend gives the series a wry bit of humor and it is fun to watch them interplay with one another. When you watch the last episode, you will be longing for more, but that is not to be. The series got cancelled by CBS. There will never be a second season. We can only hope for a movie based on the series one day. Unfortunately, there aren't any extras on this DVD series, but it is still well worth you time to view. You will fall in love.

Moonlight was hands down the best vampire series on television in the last few years. Mick St. John (Alex O'Laughlin) was a nice enough guy, until his new bride turned him into a vampire. Now he works as a private investigator. His best friend Josef (Jason Dohring), who is also a vampire, is not a nice guy and serves as a good counterpoint to our hero's stoic, wounded torment. (Mick does not enjoy being a vampire, and really would like to become mortal again.) Mick is also watching over Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), a journalist. He has a bond with Beth that even she doesn't know about. Watching their relationship develop and unfold as the mystery is unravelled is one of the great hooks of this show. Moonlight is a fun, well written and acted TV show. It's a good time for one and all. (Even my oh-so-macho boyfriend got addicted to it.) It's not a sappy, romantic girlie soap opera. The vampire world has a lot of layers to it, most of which are not revealed right away (as so frequently happens). The relationship between Mick and Beth is complicated, and not just in the star-crossed-lovers way. It's a thoughtful drama with a lot of humor and joy to counterbalance the requisite somber tone of any good vampire show. If you didn't get a chance to check out Moonlight while it was on CBS, don't miss out on the DVDs. Girls, you won't regret getting to own hours of the hottest vampire to grace our small screens!! NOTE: to be fair I do not own the DVD set so I cannot rate the DVD extras and thus gave them a 3. I have seen the entire series on CBS though, and can rate that piece.

I had the opportunity to view the pitch video for this show - and I was hooked. They recast all but the lead character (Mick St. John - Alex O'Loughlin) and it was for the better. If you enjoy quick witted shows, snarky comments & vampire shows in general - you will enjoy Moonlight. My only regret is that we only got 16 episodes.

YOU WILL LOVE THIS TV SERIES. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT ON TV ANYMORE. I MISS IT TERRIBLY.
