    Beyond my expectations

So, I did a lot of research on smart watches for about a month while I waited for my rewards points to become available. I didn’t find any thorough reviews from a “real life person in action” so I created one. In a nutshell, this watch is great for work, play and style. There are already a few people I know looking to go buy it since they saw mine “in action.” My observations from the past week: 1. Battery Life This was my first concern that was quickly squashed to a non-issue. (thanks Google.com) When I opened the device for the first time on 1/31/15 it right away did an update to the latest firmware, Lollipop. Once I got it synched up to my phone (HTC One) after that, the battery was dropping DRASTICALLY. On that Monday, I unplugged it from the charger at 6:45AM and by 8AM I was at 70%. I did a little research, and I found that doing a factory reset on the watch after the update was probably needed for some reason. This was a user comment, not from Moto or anything. I did this and the watch is now flawless. It’s now 3:25PM and I have 55% life left. I don’t sleep with a watch on, so I could care less if it lasts more than one day. It gets plugged in with my phone when I go to bed. I did spring the $39 for a second charger for my office. The reason is that if you plan, for example, to go out at night right after work it would be a good idea to put some juice back in the watch. By the way…it charges SUPER FAST. 1-2 hours TOPS for a 0%-100% charge. So plugging it in at work for 15 minutes makes a huge difference for a late night. On a side note, my phone’s battery life is great now. I thought by keeping my Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS on all day, it would drain quickly. Since I now look at my phone infrequently since everything I used to look at is displayed on my watch, the phones battery is improved. The screen on the phone is what drains your battery. 2. Style The watch speaks for itself. I have some coworkers that collect very expensive watches, and the fact that they were complementing the style says a lot. I wouldn’t change a thing. Especially since you can change the faces to whatever wardrobe, etc… 3. Email Notifications The notifications are great. Think of it as an extension of your phones notification tool bar. It’s that simple. I love that I can read an email or text from the phone. I do get a lot of emails, so I am a little bummed that if more than one email comes through, I can only see a list of the emails and who they are from. I cannot select them to read each one individually. You can read it in its entirety if there is only one email waiting for you. I have a feeling this is an Android thing with the phone, so I’m not worried about it, just would be nice. Maybe one day we can select one out of the 5 emails in the notifications to read. Not a deal breaker. 4. Text Message Notifications Text messaging is cool, you even get the picture of the person that your phone has on file when the notification pops. I just don’t like that you can’t select to reply to the message using your watch. The only way to reply is to use the voice activation to create a new message to that person. Not a BAD problem, because it turns out to do the exact same thing, but it would be nice to swipe and click reply right away as you can with the emails. I’m sure Android Wear will fix this soon since you can reply to emails in that way. Looks like an oversight by Google. 5. App Notifications You get the exact app notification that you have set up to get sent to your phone. Plus when you open the notification, you get the background changing to the apps picture. Nothing special. You can select to open the app. If it’s not a “wear” app, it opens on your phone (assuming it’s not PW protected). It will be nice to see “wear” start interfacing more with more apps. That will just be time, it’s still early. 6. Watch Faces Comes with some cool preloaded faces. The moto app that it prompts you to download allows you to customize the color accents, number format, etc… on the faces. I downloaded a few 3rd party, but they weren’t that much better that I have found yet. 7. Blue Tooth This is my only complaint. It takes a significant amount of time to connect to my HTC One. Sometimes I have to disable and re-enable the Bluetooth. It does work “in the background” so you can still connect to a blue tooth speaker. About 25% of the time I connect to a blue tooth speaker, the voice activation stops working and I get a disconnected notification on the watch. So, I am either getting lucky that it works sometimes, or it’s glitchey and needs improvement on connection statuses. Other times, no issue at all. This would be the only thing that has me bugged sometimes. 8. Pedometer/Heart Rate The pedometer was shockingly accurate. I, unfortunately, tested it by counting my steps on my walk to lunch. It was exactly 200 steps that I took and meanwhile fixing my shirt sleeve and holding a coffee. It registered exactly 200 steps. I was impressed because my wrist wasn’t moving in the perfect forward/backward motion the whole time. The heart rate monitor is good. I honestly don’t really care about it, but it’s good to have with my running app, Endomondo. I like my watch loose and the heart rate app will tell you to tighten your band. I have the steel band, so I got a link removed, and it works great, from what I can tell. 9. Running Works great for running too. I just say “start a run” and it starts up Endomondo and starts tracking everything. Pretty cool. Not worried about sweat as it’s water proof, I just give it a wipe down afterwards.

When I bought the Moto 360 it was my third Android Wear device, but not my third choice. My first choice was the Moto 360; however it was not the first one ready for release to the public. The first three announced were the LG G Watch, the Samsung Gear Live, and the Moto 360. The only problem, the Moto 360 was the one everyone wanted but was the last one released. So I like many got the first one I could get my hands on (the LG G Watch), and I was probably one of the first to return it because it was ugly. Then I tried the Gear live and felt like a member of the cast of Star Trek. Every product has it's problems, the LG G Watch problem was looks, it was UGLY. Let's call a spade a spade, it's ugly. The G watch was a blocky square box on your wrist fastened with an ugly rubber strap. There was one button that was located out of reach on the back and could only be pushed with the tip of a pen. It's form factor was not conducive to fitting comfortably on your wrist with a long sleeve dress shirt. The only great thing about it's looks is that it looks great with the night rider watch face that can be downloaded from the Play Store. In the world of cars there is a term when discussing ugly cars, and that is "there is an &%# for every seat". I don't quite know what the translation would be for a watch, but I think you can get the point. The good news was LG saw the flaw and to their credit went quickly back to the drawing board to fix it. In one of the quickest turn around of bad design LG developed the G Watch R. To their credit they made a watch that turned heads, and at least brought the looks into the 90's. With it's massive G shock like bezel it actually looks good. On the other end of the spectrum is a watch that has come from a company that has already developed it's own OS for the smart watch world. Now they are seeing the opportunity of being part of the next big thing "Android Wear". Unfortunately they have not gone to the next big thing with the looks of their first android wearable. Again to give credit where it is due, they have refined the look of their previous square face, but with its brushed metal body, and rubbery band it looks like it should be worn on the wrist of someone piloting the Star Trek Enterprise. I will say it was actually comfortable on my wrist, and would allow me to wear it with a long sleeve dress shirt at work. Then there is the clip on charger that was a rush to production after thought. Yikes! At the release of Android Wear the lead speaker was wearing the most anticipated of the three announced Android Wear devices. Motorola was the only company to come to market with a watch that actually looked like a respectable timepiece. With a Stainless steel case, a band made of real leather, and a face that looked like it had hands floating just like a real watch. Three things that have hurt the impression of the watch were the old Texas Instruments processor, the lowest resolution display of the bunch, and the plastic back that is fragile and cracks when any amount of stress is put on the band. While people criticize the processor, the performance is very comparable to the competition. The Display may be the lowest PPI of the bunch; however it is beautiful in the way that it appears the faces float up to the top of the watch face. As for the back of the watch cracking, well there is no excuse it's a problem. People have sanded the edge of the plastic back to eliminate the pressure applied at the corners, while others have bought ugly plastic inserts to extend beyond the plastic back to help the poor design. Motorola then came up with the best fix of all, they decided to turn lemons into lemonade. Motorola made a flush fitting plastic insert that connects a beautiful color matching metal band to the beautiful body of the Moto 360. The metal band is wider than the original leather band, giving the Moto 360 a very refined, and classy appearance. Now probably the only watch that would actually look good with a suit to date (soon to be challenged by the Asus Zen watch) the Moto looks like a winner. It also allows the person wearing it to feel comfortable breaking a sweat wearing it, and not feeling like they are going to ruin the leather. After all it was one of the few to have a heart rate monitor, leading you to believe maybe you should wear it when going for a run. On top of fixing the problem Motorola made it's customers feel the fix was an upgrade that was worth an extra $50.00 on the retail shelf. To be honest I feel like I got an upgrade when I swapped out my cracked leather band model, and purchased the Model with the steel band. Overall I would say the Moto 360 is still the best looking Smart Watch to date.

I gave it to my husband for his birthday and he told me it was the best gift ever! His watch connects to his cellphone via Bluetooth and gets his emails, text messages, weather, stocks, music, GPS, etc. Its face can be customized and looks very elegant and stylish. It was a great purchase!

I love technology and anything tech geeky.... but I can't really justify $300 for a device that does what my phone does. Sure, it makes it EASIER to get my notifications... but $300 easier? No. Also.. the battery life.... ridiculous. Yesterday I killed the battery in 4 hours, because I was using it to focus on GPS, rather than using my phone. The fact that I can't charge the watch via USB without the special charger, left me spending the day with a blank screen on my wrist.

I've been very reluctant to get into the smart watch game, and it took me a lot of waiting, researching, and a pretty decent sale before I decided to pull the trigger on the Moto 360. So far though, I'm very impressed with this watch, and the Android Wear platform, considering how relatively young the smart watch scene is. What sold me on this watch was the round face (I think the square faced smart watches look like 25 cent cracker jack prizes), metal band, water resistance, and customizable faces. I'm often asked by curious people if anyone really "needs" a smart watch. At this point, I can comfortably say "no". However, certain features absolutely become quite nice and easy to get used to, to the point where going back to a standard watch may leave you slightly disappointed. Specifically I'm thinking of notifications and activity tracking. My phone is usually on low or vibrate in some baggy pockets, so I often miss notifications/texts until I pick up my phone and manually look at it. Now, I never miss them because I feel a quite, faint, yet unmistakeable vibration on my wrist that lets me know I have a notification. From there I can either look, or choose to ignore it for now and take a mental note to look at it when I have a minute. And it's not just texts, it's all apps and emails. It's also very nice to be able to see who just emailed me, and if necessary, read the entire email text on my wrist, or just the first sentence or so and read the rest on my phone later. The activity tracking is admittedly not that necessary, but still very nice because it's significantly easier to use the built-in heart monitor on the Moto 360 than the one on my Galaxy S5. It's also very nice to have the pedometer feature because I used to use a clip-on one on my waist, which occasionally would get in the way, fall off, or I'd forget about it and accidentally destroy it through a washing machine cycle. Having these activity features built into my watch instead of all in separate clunky devices is a huge win. It's also pretty cool that when viewing notifications on my watch, I can tell it to open the relevant app on my phone with one touch and save a little bit of time manually opening it. Cosmetically, the unnecessary but extremely cool (and a main selling point to me) feature is the customizable faces. There are a handful of options built-in, but I only used each of those for an hour or so. Where you really want to go are the community-designed watch faces, of which there are hundreds. Some are downright awful, but there are many very impressive designs. They span from simple (basic digital or analog style), to impersonating real-world high-end designs (Rolex, Breitling, Invicta, etc), to car themed (Ferrari, Chevrolet, Aston Martin, etc), to game and movie themed (James Bond/GoldenEye, Zelda, Star Wars, Tron, Halo), to confusing yet awesome (very cryptic designs that take some time to figure out how to decipher). Basically, there is really a watch design for everyone out there. You can even design your own if you have the patience. You may need to download separate apps (some free, some not) to transfer over your custom watch faces. Customization is a huge plus here as well. Not just the customizable watch faces (which are incredibly awesome), but the fact that Motorola offers several variations of face and band colors and designs. Black, silver, champagne, gray, metal, leather, etc. Mixing and matching the physical design choices give you quite an array of choices. I settled on the black face and black metal band personally (I like not needing to worry about getting a leather band wet), but the other colors looked just as cool. I also have grown to love the nightstand watch this turns into when charging at night. It is very small and dim, so it doesn't hurt my eyes to look at in the dark, nor is it just generally annoying to have in the room. It also tells you the charging % too, which is nice, and charges surprisingly fast as well. While I would love a non-wired charging option too, such as a micro USB port, I've lived without it fine so far. Battery life isn't as limiting as I was worried about based on other reviews. My first day of using it, from about 7:30am to 8pm, I had 60% left on my watch battery with no charging in between. This was with very moderate use though, such as checking the time every half hour or so, and checking a handful of notifications throughout the day. You will absolutely need to plan on charging it nightly, but I doubt I will ever need to charge it mid-day to avoid an early battery death. However, this was with ambient mode off. I did try one day with ambient mode on (which leaves the face on very low brightness all day), and I had 20% battery left at the end of the day. So I could see ambient mode being problematic depending on how long your days are and how much you use the watch. I didn't want battery life to be a concern so I turned ambient mode off the next day. But improved battery life that easily allows for ambient mode would be a great upgrade for the next Moto 360 iteration. Initial setup was pretty easy. You just need to connect it to your phone's Bluetooth, install some firmware updates (which did take several minutes), and that was pretty much it. Needing constant Bluetooth connection with my phone was a little bit of a change for me. I usually keep Bluetooth off except when playing music to keep my phone's battery life better. So now that I need it on 24/7, my phone's battery life has gone down slightly, but not in a deal-breaking way. I also have to remember to keep my phone and watch within about 30 feet of each other to keep my watch 'on the grid'. I did need to resize it up one segment from its initial size (even with a below average wrist size), and resizing expensive watches has always given me anxiety. But I got through it with a five dollar watch resizer from amazon in under ten minutes with no issues. So why the 4-star rating? The one and only thing that really bugs me is the so-called "flat tire" design, referring to the black strip at the bottom of the watch face. It ruins a lot of potentially good custom watch face designs and is generally just hard to look past if you have any OCD tendencies. I believe they'll find a way to fix this design problem in the next version, and then this will really be perfect. However, I did find a way to almost forget about this problem by only using custom faces that lend themselves well to the black bottom. My current "Star Wars" face is mostly black so I hardly notice the black strip anymore. There are also other clever designs that use the black strip as scenery, a horizon, a cityscape, and so forth, to where it actually even looks intentional. So my bottom line on this, is if you can get it at a pretty good discount and look past the flat tire design, it's a very capable watch that I have really grown to love. However, from what I understand, there is a version 2 around the corner, so if you can wait (and are willing to pay more), it may be better just hold out for that one. *Summary* Pros: [+] Love the round face, an absolute must for me [+] Customizable faces are a lot of fun and give everyone an opportunity to find the perfect theme for them [+] Plenty of face & band colors, in both metal and leather [+] Water resistant, so I don't need to stress about being around water [+] Vibration is subtle, quiet, yet effective [+] Instant notifications that I never miss, unlike with my phone [+] Enough battery life to get me through the day easily with ambient mode off [+] Included wireless charger is high quality and charges very fast [+] Really liking the small, dim, bed-side clock the watch turns into when charging wirelessly at night [+] Metal band looks nice and wasn't too difficult to resize [+] Release clip on metal band keeps watch secured very well and makes it easy to release and remove [+] While some people say the face is too big, I think the size is perfect how it is. I hear the next one may be smaller, which would be disappointing to me. I really hope they keep a larger size option still available. Cons: [-] Obviously, pricier than nearly every other watch out there [-] Black strip ("flat tire") at bottom gets in the way of many otherwise awesome watch faces [-] Improved battery life would still be great to make ambient mode more feasible

Watchmaker app makes it the most customizable for watch faces(Also true for any android watch) and when properly setup my battery life avg is 18+ hours per charge cycle WITH ambient screen on, with it off its usually 30+ hours between needed charges. The only thing I hate about android wear is "ok google" I don't want any voice activation on my watch but then again everyone does that apple, microsoft etc. If you are not a tinkerer I would wait for newer updates that make things easier. If your ok with sub-par(Less then 1 full-day) battery life, and like the watch as is out of box you will love this thing, otherwise I suggest waiting a few more months to buy android smart watches unless your a programmer/tinkerer who wants to spend the time setting it up the way you want, and tweaking battery life out. Strong Points: * Personally best looking smart watch on the market * 18+ hours battery life normal use Ambient screen when tweaked * 30+ hours tilt to wake no ambient when tweaked * Round watch face * metal band watch only cost 300$ USD as compared to most being over 500$

I think this is the best looking smartwatch currently on the market. The battery life lasted a day when I first got it. But after a few system updates, it's still at ~70% battery life when I put it on the charger at night. The only thing that doesn't work well is the voice to text function. Needs some serious help in that area. Other than that, it's pretty baller...

I have to admit I did not do a lot of research on smart watches before I made this purchase. That being said, I was not looking for something to replace my device, or to take it above and beyond the call of duty. I did however want a nice looking watch, that could send me notifications while I was at work or away from my phone. This does that very well! It also allows me to get important texts and calls while I am driving without having to touch my phone or look for it and distract me from driving. At work, I can leave my phone in a drawer and walk around my department and also the outer reaches of it while still receiving notifications. Battery life thus far has been great, although the more you use the Google voice functionality the shorter the battery life will get. I believe I have not had the watch die on me once. I did have to adjust my phone's screen brightness to allow it to last all day while still using it (snapchat, text, music at the gym with bluetooth headphones and wifi, etc.). I am okay with not having such a bright screen and being able to wear this sleek watch at the same time. I would NOT recommend you getting this watch if you are unable to compromise. It is also a good step counter if you are into the fitness side of life. Very easy to setup and get going as well. Overall, an A- from me!

Overall I really like this watch. Android Wear is in its infancy so it still needs development but it has gotten better with every update. Pros: By fare the best designed Android Wear watch that is out right now. Battery life is also surprisingly good. With software updates I am up to almost 1.5-days of normal use. When the watch first came out it was much less. I have gotten tons of compliments on it. I am getting a little tired of people asking me if it is an "Apple Watch" though. Exploring all the watch faces on Google Play and facerepo.com is really fun. I rarely have the same watch face for more then a week. Cons: The metal bands attaches to the body through plastic spacer inserts. I have cracked the insets on both sides of the watch by bending my wrist . This does not affect the functionality of the watch (or even make the band loose) it is just annoying. Best Buy was good enough to replace the watch and I have asked Motorola to send me a few extra inserts in case it happens again. Please note these inserts are part of the metal watch band, not the watch. This does not apply to the leather band.

This watch has been a pleasure owning since day one. Usually things tend to be less exciting in a short time, but not with this watch even after a month of use. There are a ton of free watch faces you can get from the play store, and even several that let you make you own design. People are constantly asking about my watch when they see it. One huge advantage for me is the ease of checking notifications. When I am at work, I always silence my phone or even leave it on my desk. The watch notification is subtle enough to not be heard, and keeps me on top of phone calls and messages. Even better is sometimes when I get home early I forget to turn my ringer on for my phone and before I had the moto 360, friends had trouble reaching me on my cell, not any more with this. One issue I read in many reviews is the battery life. First off, I do not use ambient mode which keeps the watch face on, not sure why you need to do this but to each their own. Second, I get a lot of emails and notifications that come to my watch. I am sure some people get more than me, but my point is I am active with watch. My experience has been the watch will last 2 days. Most often I take the watch off at night and charge it. By then end of my typical day, 7:00 am to midnight, the battery is at about 50% average. The other good point with the watch is it charges really fast. In short I am very please with the watch and if you are an android user, I would absolutely recommend this watch, and this is coming from someone who has not worn a watch in years!

I am extremely pleased with this smartwatch. I purchased it on the eve of the 2nd generation being released mainly because Android Wear was finally released for iOS. Granted it is more limited on iOS devices but now android based smart watches can finally pair with iPhones. The reason I prefer this watch over the others is that it is more stylish and is the only one currently to have a round watch face. All the other smartwatches including the applewatch took the cheap route and created a square watch face which reminds me of the cheap watches I used to get off ebay that shipped from China. Pairing with an iPhone there are no apps currently available for the watch but if you are an android users there are several. Personally I am not concerned at all with having apps in my watch and think most are rather pointless anyways. But as an IT director I needed purely notifications while in meetings in case of getting high importance alerts without rudely pulling my phone out. It's a great purchase and price. I am really tempted for going after the 2nd generation now as it looks a bit sleeker and nicer. Although the upgrade in terms of hardware isn't too significant and as an iOS user am limited to Adroid Wear upgrades. Overall really recommend this watch and I would recommend it over newer versions or the apple watch. Based on the price point it is decently affordable to test out as a smartwatch as well if you are a person that isn't quite sold on the smartwatch idea. Enjoy!

I've tried many different smartwatches, and this is far and away my favorite. It does have an old processor, but motorola has good job of designing the watch and everything with this in mind, so there's not really a noticeable difference (Yes, there is a difference compared to other watches, but in every day use, unless you're very picky, you won't notice). The battery issue is completely non-existent, because people will complain about getting 8 hours of battery life. Never have I ever gotten only 8 hour, even before any updates which helped battery life. It used to be I would just enough battery to get through the day, but now I can go for most of the next day as well. For something I take off every night, that's more than acceptable amount of battery life. Everything else on this watch is top notch, from the band to the watch housing.. Everything is really beautiful. Yes it's neat for people to see you're wearing a smartwatch, but it's even better for them not to notice until hours or days later when you interact with it.

I'm very impressed with this watch as it's very sleek, yet bold, and love the new low price. I'm coming from the Gear 2 Neo, which is nice but didn't like being limited to Samsung phones. pros: light weight all metal frame and watch band now Compatibility with Android devices vs just Samsung full circle design with no bezels (flat tire thing is not a problem at all blends into watch faces) Android wear 1.3 and lolipop 5.1.1 update out of the box..is awesome, shows me all notifications, I'm able to control camera with it as well as music, youtube videos, see and read full emails and respond via voice, texts with emoji or voice (amazing voice recognition) lots of accessories on the web water and dust resistant stylish yet bold and sleek looking ( I have silver one) Wireless charging (comes with dock) Tons of watch faces and customization easy to use and set up with phone cons: battery is good enough to make it through the day. but it all depends on how much notifications you let it receive as well as how much you use it. It hasn't died on me yet but do charge it nightly.

Very nice watch with a great touch and feel. Looks a little big on a small wrist, but over all has great features and functions. Although I don't own an Android phone, I was very impressed with the coolness and the UI. This was for my nephew and he was raving about it. I bought an apple watch a few months ago and I think the Moto 360 is much better both in looks and overall performance. The battery of the apple watch died every day around 4:00 PM, when I was at work and I dint carry the charging cable. So, it was useless even to show basic time. Added to that it frequently hung and drained my phone battery too. In comparison this is a better accessory/smartwatch.

I have not worn a watch in several years, and when I first saw this, I was just not sure. Now that I have owned for a couple of weeks now I love it! I have found so much more use from this than I thought possible. While I am at work, I turn my ringer off on my phone, but when I get home and typically forget to turn the ringer on which makes it difficult for people to reach me. Not any more with my Moto 360. IT notifies me of any incoming calls, texts emails, whatever someone uses to reach me comes through on my watch. Also, a huge plus, I went to dinner the other night and I went by boat, when I got onto the boat to head home, my watch asked me, Did you forget your phone? Sure enough it was inside the restaurant on the table. For me, the battery lasts all day which is typically from 7:15 am to 9:00pm. At that time the watch will typically be at 20% remaining battery. I do get a lot of emails, meeting reminders, texts and calls throughout out the day. Battery has not been an issue for me once. In short the Moto is so much better than I thought it would be.

I really enjoy using this watch. It lets me know without digging my phone out of my pocket (a Galaxy Note 3), whether that last notification was important or not. It lets me send text messages without pulling out my phone (usually gets it right, your milage may vary). And, best of all it can wake me up in the morning by just buzzing on my wrist, allowing me to get up without disturbing my wonderful wife. Battery life has so far exceeded my expectations -- I can charge it in the morning before work and it will handle a solid day.
