Great home phone. It’s good that Motorola kept up with current technology and introduced the Alexa assistant on this. It was for that sole reason why I made the purchase. All in all, a good phone to have around the house.

I needed a new house phone and figured I give something with smart features a try. Having Alexa enabled throughout my house this Motorola system seemed like a logical choice, and for the most part I am pleased with the overall features and quality of the hardware. This device operates in a base station/remote device configuration, which I liked so I could place the phone in another room of my house and not be limited to placing it near the wireless router. At the router I cabled the necessary ethernet connection and then the power, which caused me some frustration because the plug was big and bulky causing me to move around some plugs on my surge protector. Minor inconvenience, but still worth mentioning. After power and internet I connected the Motorola base to my Ooma base and proceeded to download the necessary apps on my phone to complete the setup. This was also a bit surprising because it added a few extra steps in the setup process that I feel reduces the overall convenience of the product. During the setup process it asks if you want to upload your contacts from your mobile phone and personally speaking I opted out of this, the downside being I can’t simply hit the Alexa button and tell her to call a contact. I mainly use the “landline” for business calls and I don’t have an issue with manual dialing and the Ooma service provides me with caller ID which I see come through on the handset. Besides a high volume of business calls I use the intercom via Alexa to talk to my wife or kids as needed since my office is in the basement. Although the base and handset are a good distance apart and on different floors, I get good connectivity and call/voice quality. I am still exploring other features but so far this handset meets my expectations for performance. The phone layout is easy to understand, and the display is bright and clear. Battery life seems to be extensive as I don’t find myself having to charge it often at all. I would have liked to see possibly a Bluetooth or audio jack offering but is not a necessity for what I am doing. Quality device, with some setup hoops to go through but generally a usable, practical home phone with Alexa features.

Bought this on Deal of Deal for a great price! Not savy with all this new technology but got some help. So far works good as described. Again, the price $35 was what sold me to buy!

I might be one of the last known dinosaurs to own a Landline so this is a little niche. Overall the phone is nice looking and pretty simple to use. Dialing was straight forward and summoning Alexa was easy. Sound was clear. Range was good. Battery was decent even after using the various functions available. It will even play songs via Alexa. I only had 2 small cons. 1. Setting up Alexa was convoluted. This is also problematic with other 3rd party devices that I have had to set up with Alexa. 2. The base unit requires both hardwired phone line connection and hardwired internet connection. If you don't have these 2 connections readily near by you are hosed. Other than that, I would recommend this unit if you want to integrate your landline and have it be part of your smart home device line up.

Plan to store this close to a router since there’s no WiFi support to connect to the internet to use Alexa functions. Other than that it does a decent job as a phone but Alexa is what this price point needs really.

Great functionality, not the most premium handset

The Motorola Alexa telephone system is great simply because it has the additional functionality of Alexa. This gives you another mobile option to control your household Alexa smart devices, but also adds the excellent functionality of being able to call relatives from a handset. While you could use another Alexa device, there's just something more natural about using a handset that you can walk around with to make calls. My main gripes about this handset are as follows: 1) It requires a wired ethernet cable for internet. Personally, this isn't a great solution because I have plenty of RJ-11 outlets for telephone plugs, but my house doesn't have tons of RJ-45 ethernet outlets near them. The only spot is in the office so the hub has to stay there which limits where I can play the other phones. I was able to work around this by placing a Velop node near my kitchen RJ-11 jack, and this way I was able to get a "wired" connection off of my Velop node which was connected wirelessly to other Velop nodes. 2) The build quality of the phone isn't as high as you would expect for Motorola. My understanding is a consumer electronics company is licensing the Moto name but the charging base should be a bit deeper or have some magnets to make it snap in place. The handset itself is also not as nice as you would expect on devices nowadays. 3) Set-up worked but it wasn't flawless. I ended up having to use the Hellovoice app on my phone right next to the base and phone before it showed up during set-up. I also had to plug it directly into my Velop MR8300 instead of the switch for it to recognize the phone. 4) The arrow menus aren't as intuitive as they could be, you can navigate up/down/left/right relatively in-line, but the Alexa button doesn't act as the Enter button, you have to go to the top left "shoulder" button. Not a great interface. 5) Dialing on the keypad is a little latent relative to what shows up on the screen. This is probably more a function of being spoiled by smart phones and tablets being super fast. I know it sounds like a lot of negatives, but overall this probably is the best land line handset on the market. The display is large and clear, the sound is excellent and overall it works as you expect with the functionality of Alexa. I guess its only a matter of time before some cell phone vendors start selling an rj-11 landline base to work with their phones, but for now this is a great choice. I'll look to add a few handsets into the system because you really can't beat the quality of a landline call.

So my main reason for getting this is my Nanny who's 83 is having beginning signs of dementia. She has a hard time remembering numbers and has a hard time recognizing the phone as the phone. My thoughts were she'd be able to just vocally say "Alexa" like all of the other devices and start a call for her. Unfortunately that's not the case. You have to push the Alexa button manually on the phone to initiate the process. She doesn't have a smart phone to upload her contacts which this phone requires to download Motorola's HelloVoice app. I used mine to set it up. I do have quite a few of her contacts in my smart phone but it doesn't have a way to selectively upload specific numbers or names. It is however very nicely made with a nice size full color screen. It does have to be directly connected to ethernet which I'd have like to have seen wifi capability. Another function which I have on my other home phone that'd be nice to have on this is bluetooth connectivity to make it possible to answer your cell phone calls through your handset while in the home. Overall it's a nice little phone with some cool technology. If I'm not mistaken it's the first phone with Alexa enabled capabilities so again Motorola is always ahead of the competition Yes I'd recommend this to others but not so much for the elderly One thing it will do is tell her a joke haha which is entertaining to her.

The Motorola AXH01 phone with Alexa built-in is an excellent feature. We have 3 Echos in the house, so we are all in Alexa. The handset is nice looking and looks to be of good quality. The setup is not hard. However, I would say it is time-consuming. The obvious use is to make phone calls, and if you have your contacts listed, you can ask Alexa to call someone on your list. Alexa can import all the contacts from your phone using the Alexa app. You can also use a Motorola app to set-up the phone. I thought using the phone was mostly smooth, but did have some issues at first with the settings. The headset display is clear and easy to read when the phone is on, but I noticed it does not always stay on, yes it not “on” even when it is sitting in its base. I do not like that, its not a deal-breaker, but it should be addressed. I'm sure some people would be concerned with the quality of the call. I found hearing the other person on the line to be very good. I have not had it drop a call like a cell phone may, so that is a big plus. Remember, this is not an Amazon product, if it were, would it have more features? I will have to wait and see. Bottom line, I like it, but it's not without a few issues. For the price of under $100.00 give it a try if you are an Alexa household like us.
