This is the best affordable smart phone I've ever used, I'm switching from HTC for the first time in almost 4 years and this phone does what it needs too. Believe it or not I picked this phone over the HTC 10 for 2016, many little reasons why but let me go by saying that I never expected to see this phone had I not seen it on display at best buy. I am a audiophile and I loved this phone the moment I heard it crisp sound and very loud! The screen size is 5.7 so its considered a phablet and it fits nice in the hand, has a great camera, no complaints with this phone, only thing I can say is that the phone could use some themes like the HTC or Samsung flagships, but there's apps for almost everything now so that shouldn't be a problem....and like I said its a pretty size phone so if u don't like big phones then this is not for u.

This device purchase was a labor of a couple of days. It was between the Nexus 5X or 6P, the new GS7's, or this device. My top reasons for ending up with the Moto X is that 1) I Do Not have a true need for a Fingerprint Scanner, 2) it has Water Resistance and Turbo Charging, 3) Marshmallow, 4) EXPANDABLE MEMORY, and 5) Unlocked and very affordable without sacrificing these above mentioned key factors.
The quality of the build is pretty high end, I enjoy the slightly curving form-factor, the speakers can get loud and have great quality, and all-day battery life...based on my mid-to-heavy use.
Hope this helps someone in need of an opinion ;D

Great phone, HORRIBLE battery life. If you need a phone that needs to have a significant amount of screen time, look elsewhere this is not your phone. Coming from a Galaxy Note 4 on Tmobile, which has about the same size screen as the Moto X Pure, and I could go hours of watching video on it, not needing to charge, the Moto X Pure is a real disappointment. My battery drops about 5 percent in 10 minutes just surfing the web. Luckily, in my case, I don't use the phone in that way that often, and the phone charges incredibly quick with the included TurboCharge 25W charger, and also with a certified QuickCharge 2.0 charger, but they really should have put a much bigger battery in this phone.
That being said, the phone is otherwise great once upgraded to the latest version of Android marshmallow. The biggest reason I went for this phone was the microSD card slot, which will take up to a 200gb MicroSD card (at this point, only the one SanDisk makes can be confirmed working as I have gathered), even though the phone says it only supports up to 128gb microSD cards.
I have very mixed feelings about the phone and there are lawsuits currently happening against motorola because they are not handling warranties either in timely matters, and even sending people replacement phones that are not the same models they sent back.
The screen quality is pretty good, but not nearly as good as Galaxy phones, but given how much less expensive this phone is, I cannot complain too much.
There is an included phone bumper, that is probably good enough that you would not need to buy a separate case. I did get the incipio octane case, but it is very slippery, but provides a better space for a wider headphone jack to properly fit in. The included bumper was a bit too hole for the headphone, needed to be made just a shy bigger to accommodate larger jacks. Was only an issue with one set of headphones I had, where when in my pocket, those headphones would sometimes loose contact and sound weird. The new case alleviated that issue.
Overall, I would say if you are ok with needing a charge at least twice a day, depending of screen on-time use which would vary per user, this is a good buy. Otherwise, I suspect the Nexus 6p phone might be a better option.

My first "expensive" phone. Excellent pictures, easy to use. I got a wallet case for it, I can put cards & money in case so I don't have to carry a purse most of the time. I haven't had a "smart" phone long, but this is very easy to use. I upgraded it to 64GB of storage.

Good phone, good camera. Battery life short, but can charge very quickly.bought 2 at same time one for me and one for daughter. Small issue with mine, digital line thru screen, only occasionally, possibly caused by security update, will investigate further otherwise problem free. Speakers work well,2 of them, loud enough usually both on front of phone, big plus.wish power button was on seperate side of phone, always pushing wrong button for volume.

Better budget phone closer to pure android

Pros:
If you looking for non nexus budget phone that has closer to pure android, this may be the one. With the exception of couple of exceptionally useful Moto apps there are no other manufacturer bloatware. Phone is smooth in its operations though it is Android. I have iphone also. The screen on Moto looks better than the iPhone in my opinion.
Cons:
I see back of the phone heating up rather quickly than expected.
Less color options available in Online stores including BestBuy. Moto site has best color options. But I think you can send to motorola once to get colors changed.
This phone gets 4 star instead of 5 because of issue i faced. I opened this phone from its packaging, switched on, used my google account, asked for android update. While update was going on, it ended up in infinite on off loop. Struggled for 2 hours with various fixes provided in online forums before i end up exchanging with new phone at BestBuy. BestBuy is seemless in exchanges and returns unlike other retails.

My favorite things are the *turbo charger & *screen size. I had the first edition Moto x and really wanted another Moto phone. Another plus is the 21 megapixel camera. I'm very happy with it. I was worried about the larger screen feeling huge in my small hands but it's perfect! Really great phone for the price! No bloatware , just basic apps leaves plenty of storage. Of course no phone is good without Nova launcher installed. Lol So glad I got one before they were all gone.

The best any US carrier phone on the market.

The Moto X Pure is an excellent phone that has the added benefit of being capable of working on any US carrier. I consider it to be superior to the more recent Moto Z due to the fact that it will work on any carrier and Motorola/Lenovo decided not to make a fully unlocked version of the Z. These phones are starting to get hard to find at this point being two model years old but they are still the best any carrier phone aside from the vastly more expensive Pixel.
The camera is good but it is not quite as good as the camera found in the Galaxy S6, iPhone 6, or LG G4 which were the flagship phones when this one came out. Other than the camera the hardware is equal to that of the LG G4 and it feels faster than the G4 thanks to its clean Android UI.
All in all, this is the least expensive, best phone you can get that will allow you to switch carriers any time you want. Straight Talk customers can switch carriers and never leave straight talk since the Sim kit from straight talk comes with sim cards for all 4 major US carriers.
The one piece of hardware missing from this phone is a fingerprint reader. If you absolutely want one of those on a less than $500 fully unlocked phone you will have to look at the Moto G4 Plus 64GB or the Moto G5 Plus 64GB. Those two are almost as good as this phone but their processors are not quite as fast. If you look at the G4 Plus or G5 Plus make sure to buy the 64GB version because having 4GB of ram makes a big, big difference.
The battery life on this phone is superior to the Galaxy S6 and roughly equal to the Galaxy S7.
If you absolutely have to have the best camera for your cell phone then by all means look at the Galaxy or iPhone but if you want to save several hundred dollars on a phone that works on all carriers this might be the one for you.

Phone is not only excellent for the price, but I'd argue this phone would make most Galaxy/iPhone users happy they saved the money and went this route...
Overall, the phone does everything it needs to do well... videos, apps, sites, etc. operate as smooth as any "high end" phones I've used; camera is very solid; no bloatware, very clean Android experience...
Only "cons" would be that the screen is a bit awkward because of its size and the battery life isn't great -- although this is made nearly moot because of its Turbo Charge time (15 mins = 25% charge increase in my experience)

I bought this phone to replace the 16 gb version that I bought last year. That one was killed in an accident. This phone is fast, and while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the newer, more expensive phones, it is great if you don't want to break the bank for a premium phone. The ability to use any carrier is one of the main reasons I bought it.

The great. Audio - both the DAC and the speakers are just phenomenal so audiophiles will enjoy this. I really cannot stress this enough. Screen - the colors are gorgeous. Software - vanilla android with a few additions that are just fantastic. It is being upgraded to Nougat. Water Resistance - not waterproof but the nano coated parts keep it resistant to splashes. Expandable Storage - self-explanatory. The Price - I got it for $250 plus tax.
The meh. Camera - in bright light it's phenomenal. Doesn't handle dynamic range as today's flagships but its good enough. No OIS but the EIS is fair enough. Low light gave me some great photos but not all low light photos were great. Same with front facing. The camera app is meh. Focusing isn't slow. Temperature - does get slightly warm when gaming heavily for a while but not enough for it to be a concern. Battery - for regular use I got more than 3 hours and almost 4 hours of screen on time consistently but it has fast charging. Will drain faster while gaming of course.
The bad - the graphics processing sometimes lags a bit behind the cpu from what I can tell from the bars. Was getting slightly below 60 fps. A little less buttery smooth than flagships out there today.

I am coming from an LG G3 to the Moto X Pure Edition phone. I had the LG G4, but decided the battery life was untenable and could not live with the real possibility of the bootloop issue. When I first got the Moto X Pure, I immediately noted the solid build quality and the way that it felt in my hand. The QHD display to me provides true colors and just the right brightness at the right time. I like the pure Android UI, but at first I was put off by the plainness of it. Things like easily switching to vibrate mode and a restart option in the shutdown menu are not there, but I have decided that these are trade offs that I can live with. The phone has superior call quality on the T-Mobile network. It will run on any carrier, which allows me to be flexible. The camera is good, but I wish it had optical image stabilization. Again, a trade off for a very solid piece of equipment. I do wish it had better battery life, but I believe it to be average for an IPS, QHD display phone running the processor and GPU that this phone does. I have power in my vehicle, at my beside, and at my desk at work, so no worries. Ultimately, I decided to return the black model Moto X Pure and instead got a white 64GB model with a bamboo back. For the additional pennies of the upgraded device, I double my the internal storage and added months to the warranty. I think I will be happy for at least a couple of years with this screaming bargain of a phone.

I purchased the 32GB version of this phone while on sale at Best Buy for $250. Initially it was good but as I've been using it for about a month and a half it's grown on me a lot and I don't regret the purchase at all.
Build quality - The build is top notch. It's not the thinnest phone but the curved back feels really good in the hand. I purchased the black version with the standard backing and unless you're worried about the screen, this phone doesn't need a case. It's built well and after a couple of drops, it really still looks like new. Also, even though it's a 5.7 inch screen, the bezels are so small that the overall footprint of the phone is smaller than the iPhone 6 plus. I can do many things with one hand if needed.
Screen - It's bright and sharp at 1440p, I think it's gorilla glass 3 and there have been no scratches at all. Again the minimal bezels look great. When I pick up the phone I'm still struck by this nice display.
Audio - The 2 front facing speakers are awesome. They sound louder and richer than my Macbook Air speakers. They're great for watching video and listening to music. Along with the big clear display, it's a great device for consuming media.
Call quality - I have no complaints. Calls are clear. I've had zero problems to report.
Battery - The battery life is average. If you stream video or use the gps for fitness apps and such, you'll see maybe 3 hours of on screen time. Standby time is decent though so If I don't use it much during the day it will last easily. I think the biggest drain is the Hi res display. The good thing is the turbo charger it comes with. I can be back from 10% to 50% in about 15 minute or so.
Camera - The 21 megapixel camera is good. It tends to blow out the highlights so I recommend using the manual exposure when taking pictures. You can take good pics with it but you do need to fiddle with settings to do it and the lighting conditions have to be right. The Moto camera app is not good. Touching the screen to take a shot is an issue. Since the side bezels are so small I often take pictures when in the app without intending to. The electronic image stabilization for video is pretty good and it does take good video.
Side note - Bluetooth in my car for some reason is a hit or miss. Sometimes when I connect the phone and play audio through bluetooth it stutters and I have to disconnect, turn off the bluetooth and reconnect which is annoying. I've only experienced this in the car though. I've not had this issue pairing with other bluetooth devices.
Overall this phone has been in a word satisfying. My only issues are the so-so battery life and the bluetooth connectivity issue with my car, otherwise I would give this phone a 5 star rating. Even for the regular price now that it's about a year old, this is a great phone and it will be supported through Android 7 as Lenovo mentioned earlier this month. This phone is still a great buy.

This phone is great: fast, full featured, stock Android, good camera, and a great screen. The voice activation that Moto X's are known for works well, and Google Now is smart and recognizes the voice well.
Minus one star for missing some features because of the Marshmallow OS update. Moto Assist, a major feature in my opinion, no longer works. You can switch on some replacement settings, but the point was that it was supposed to work automatically.
The phone is HUGE with a case on it. It's big without the case, but manageable. I would recommend finding as low-profile a case as you can. I have normal size hands and the phone is sometimes hard to use in one hand. Glad that you can put icons at the bottom of the screen.

I went from the original, 2013 Moto X to this phone a couple of months ago and I must say, it has been money well spent. Here's what I like about the Moto X Pure:
1. Price (this is an absolute bargain of a phone--especially since it's unlocked and I can take it with me to any carrier I choose.)
2. Performance (while some may want the latest Snapdragon 8blahblahblah, this phone performs well. I'm not a gamer so I use it for reading, email, videos, music, and web browsing and I don't have any heating issues.)
3. Battery Life (I know some complain about this, but the battery life is fine for me. It generally lasts me from the time I wake up around 6a until the time I go to bed around 11p.)
4. Turbo Charge (This thing charges FAST! If I happen to have a heavy usage day in which my battery doesn't last all day, this thing charges it up in no time. If I remember correctly, I get over 50% in less than 30 minutes.)
5. Size (I'll be honest, I loved the small size of the 2013 Moto X, so I was nervous about going to a much larger form factor. I have small hands, so I do have to perform hand gymnastics at times but for the vast majority of tasks, I can handle this thing one handed just fine. Also, the size is absolutely great for videos, photos, and...just about anything you need to see on a screen. And although I thought this phone would be a surfboard in my pocket, it's not. Fits my pockets just fine.)
6. Moto Software (this is what sets this phone apart. It's a simple thing, but I love the fact that I can double twist the phone to turn on the camera, double chop the phone to turn on the flashlight, and quickly glance at notifications by waving my hand or picking up the phone and not using the launcher or notifications drawer. Also, I like that the phone is very close to stock Android.)
7. MicroSD Card ( I stuck a 128GB card in the slot of my 32GB phone and now I have a total of 160GB. I have no idea what I'll do with all of that space, but at least it's available.)
Dislikes:
My only dislikes pertain to the software on the phone.
1. Location aware profiles removed (on my original 2013 Moto X, I could set it so that it would automatically go to a silent profile at certain places. So when I showed up to church, it would turn the ringer off. Motorola took that away with the Marshmallow update. I know Marshmallow has a similar function, but it's not as good as Moto's was.)
2. Absence of "close all applications button" (This one has never been part of the Moto lineup, but it sure would be handy instead of having to close each application separately.
As you can see, I have way more likes that dislikes for this phone and the dislikes definitely aren't deal breakers. I've paired my Pure with a Moto 360 and a Moto Hint so I'm now, unofficially, a cyborg. I hope you enjoyed the review.

After months of research I finally bit the bullet and bought the Moto X Pure edition only to be slightly impressed... I'll explain why.
I'm coming from a OnePlus One... The phone is about 2.5 years old now (I've owned mine for 1 year) & as you may or may not know, it is HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE. Not in appearance like the Moto X but in software. Everything can be set to YOUR liking. This isn't the case with stock Android. Now if I was coming from an LG or HTC the I would have been happy... But not coming from OnePlus One running Cyanogen OS.
The Camera and the Front Facing Speakers far surpass those on the oneplus... But that's about it. There are so many other features I took for granted on my OPO in performing Task that would take a step or 2,that now take 5 to 6 steps on the MX...
At the end of the day what surprised me the most was how much SLOWER the Moto X was than the oneplus one despite having a faster more advanced CPU. In the end I returned it for those reasons and also call quality constantly dropped or faded in and out which Motorola said could be an issue with the unit itself. I'm sticking with OnePlus from here on out.

I'm moving from an iPhone 6 Plus to this Moto X. Haven't had an Android phone in maybe five years. As an intro back into the Android world, this phone has not been a disappointment. The screen is better than the one on my old iPhone, the bigger size is nice, and the dual front-facing speakers are fantastic (great sound, loud, clear). And I'm really enjoying the convenience and ease of the Google integration. The biggest negative of Moto X Pure is the lack of a fingerprint scanner. It's definitely slower and sometimes irritating to have to punch in the code each time. But I knew that going in. It's just turned out to be more of an issue for me personally, than I thought. But otherwise, this phone is great. If you can deal with the missing fingerprint scanner, then for the price, this phone is fantastic.

This is the first cell phone purchased from Best Buy. Shipping is fast and in good working condition. Compared to Amazon com and Verizon store, Best Buy had the best deal. But the phone came without SIM card, the I had to go to Verizon store to get one. The phone is fast to power up and has good camera picture. I highly recommend this Moto pure phone as an unlocked android phone.

I previously owned Samsung phones and decided to try something more economical especially in light of the problems Samsung is having with fires and exploding phones. I was pleasantly surprised by the capabilities and performance of this phone. I really wanted a large screen phone but did not want to pay $800 for the privilege. For this price I would give it 5 stars. You can get better performance and specs but you will have to pay big bucks to do so. Using the Google Play store, you can customize the phone with a large number of free apps that make this phone a superior value for the money. Lots of speed and memory with a great camera (both the main and front facing cameras) which can be expanded with an inexpensive micro SD card. I highly recommend this phone, especially if you are not stuck on a particular brand.
