Poor phone all around, gimmicky backs

I bought this Z2 Force to replace my Moto G4, and in the 2 months I've had it I've been quite disappointed with the Z2.
Screen: The "drop-proof" screen has this weird coating on it that prevents most screen protectors from sticking properly and I've wasted $30 trying. It is also *extremely* scratch-prone. Simply pressing your fingernail lightly on the screen is enough to leave a permanent gouge on its soft surface. After 2 months in my jeans pocket it is quite scratched.
Camera: I got this phone mainly for the camera, and it's just OK. Low-light performance is terrible. I do like the selfie flash, which is well color-balanced. The depth focus feature is cool but not something I use regularly. I like the B+W camera feature; it has good tonal range.
Battery: I realize that battery performance varies greatly depending on cell signal strength, but I've had really inconsistent battery life even at the exact same job site with the phone sitting in the car all day. Sometimes it'll drain only a few % over 8 hours of complete non-use, sometimes it'll drain 60%. The battery usage information is highly inaccurate though, so it's hard to figure out what's going on.
Performance: It is often fast and snappy. Sometimes it lags, but rebooting it and/or uninstalling the last installed app or two will sometimes take care of that.
Swappable backs: I have the Moto battery, the projector, and a wood back. The projector is OK. The battery is horrible - you have to fill the internal battery to 100% for the external battery to charge at all, and it does so at an insanely slow rate. The battery also makes the phone comically large and heavy. The wooden back is so slippery it makes it quite hard to hold on to the phone - a phone that without the back is already quite challenging to hold on to.
Overall: I regret purchasing such a mediocre phone for such a ridiculously high price. I'll be trading it in at 12 months.

Still no Oreo update, constantly drops WiFi

Don't get this phone. As of September 2018, it still has not gotten an Oreo update or any update for that matter. It is in dire need of an update because the WiFi keeps dropping, continuously, every few minutes. Speaking of which, it just dropped right now as I am writing this review. And no, it's not my router/modem because EVERY other electronic device in my home stays connected just fine. Motorola/Lenovo will try to convince you it's your internet but they know well that's not the case. This is a known issue not just with the Z line, but their G series as well. And what's the worse part? I've got a lot of the mods so I'm stupidly invested in this phone. Oh, the WiFi dropped again FYI. So even if I get rid of the phone, I'd have to invest again in another Moto Z series of phone in order to continue using these mods. And of course, that phone will likely have the same issue. Oh, WiFi dropped again. So congrats Motorola/Lenovo- you got me. Also, let's credit ATT here too. They may be blocking an update- it certainly wouldn't surprise me. WiFi dropped again (I'm not kidding you reader, this is seriously how constant it is).

are concerned , along with overall performance, this model is great. Moto Z2 fails at phone design ; specifically the screen. This is the most scratch-prone cell phone I've ever owned . NEVER put this phone in your pocket with car keys. It will scratch. You'd think applying a screen protector is the best idea, and it works, for about 3 months. The coating on the phone prevents adhesive of screen protectors to stay on for more than a few months,; before it start pealing off.

I bought this from Best Buy. Thefirst was a Mooto Z force droid. Worked great for about 4 months then started rebooting at random. when it got so bad that it would not finish a reboot sequence before it started another reboot, I returned it for repair under warranty. The replacement phone worked for 6 more months, then started rebooting again. back goes phone 2. phone 3 started rebooting after 8 months, no warranty, $150 to replace phone. Bought Moto Z2 Force instead from Best Buy. Phone 3 worked for 1 day and microphone stopped working. I could make calls with Bluetooth device but returned phone to store. Phone 4 worked until August 9 then started rebooting again. Back to Lenovo for exchange. got new phone. day one while setting up new phone, reboot. If I hadn't purchased all the moto mods I would have given up after phone 3. I just purchased a Samsung Note 9.
