How do you mess up a basic coffee machine?

All I wanted was a basic decent quality coffee pot. The first pot i made was just fine. I tried several times after that and found the pot doesnt activate the drip from the bottow of the filter carrier correctly. I know I'm probably not using the proper terms to decribe its parts. To sum up, the coffee doesnt drip into the pot properly. The coffee overflows and gets everywhere. What a total disaster of a pot. I dont want to hear any suggestions on how make it work right. Coffee pots are nothing new. This should be the simplest process on thr planet. Unbelievable epic fail.

This Mr. Coffee 12-cup coffee maker is more than a basic drip brewer. It comes in at a little higher price point because it has a couple of features its basic brethren might lack. I’m not a coffee drinker myself, but my household is frequented by multiple coffee drinkers throughout the week – all with varying tastes. So for the last week or so, I’ve been fiddling with the coffee maker trying to nail down the correct brew for these folks. For my uses I ground my own coffee beans – already had the grinder but used it for grinding peppers from the garden. The instructions told me to use a medium coarseness setting, so I got to work grinding up a batch for each pot. In most cases I only needed a 6 cup brew – the manual gives you a measurement chart of Tbsp/cup that’s pretty useful. For 6 cups the manual says 4.5 Tbsp of ground coffee – I did 5 since my drinkers like a stronger cup anyways. I used basic 12-cup paper filters – I didn’t feel like investing in a reusable filter at this point. Setting up the coffee maker was pretty easy. I washed the carafe, the filter basket, and ran water through the included filter. The instructions walk you through the cleaning cycle, which was pretty straightforward. Once the system was flushed it was ready for use. The front display has 6 buttons total – 2 for setting the time, delay, brew strength, operation mode, and freshness timer. So it’s a fairly easy to follow interface. This being my first time using a coffee maker I didn’t have any problems. The body of the maker is pretty lightweight – mostly plastic – so it won’t be too much effort to move around on the counter. The top has a 2 part door/hatch – opening from the front opens the whole top, while opening the rear cover only reveals a slotted opening to the water reservoir. When inserting the filter basket you have to swing the water arm out of the way. If you forget to swing it back before closing the lid, no worries – the lid is made to swing the arm back into place upon closing. The right side of the maker has a viewing window to see how much water is in the reservoir. The bottom of the body where the carafe sits is the warming plate. This has a 2 hour auto-shutoff so you won’t scald/burn off coffee that gets left in the pot for too long. The plate also plays a part in the Pause ’n Serve feature where the brewer will stop dispensing for 30 secs if you pick up the carafe. This would be useful if you wanted a cup partway through the brewing cycle. As far as using the coffee maker you have the option to brew now or set a delay. You can set your delay for 24 hrs in advance. I used it once for a 2 hour delay, and the coffee came out right on time, so it worked well. Then you need to select regular or strong brew. In my use I filled the reservoir up with hot water from my tap, which is pretty hot. With that filled up the coffee maker started brewing almost right away. With colder water it might take a few minutes to warm up, so if you need coffee ASAP then start with hot water in the reservoir. The brew time for regular or strong differed by a few minutes for a 6 cup run. I assume the difference is the extra time for the water to steep on the strong setting. Still, its relatively quick. Between the 3 coffee drinkers that frequent my house two of them like it strong and one likes it regular. I had them all try it both ways, and they could certainly tell the difference between the 2 settings. My GF really likes it strong (think shots of espresso strong), and she was happy with the brew. The regular setting turned out just right for my mom when she was over, and she’s a long-term Mr. Coffee drip brewer owner. So the major coffee drinkers in my life were satisfied, so that gets a gold start in my book. My only complaint on the brewer is the height. I understand that it needs to be a certain height to fit the carafe, filter basket, etc. The brewer needs just shy of 20” of clearance to open the top cover. My cabinets sit 19.5” above the counter, so I have to pull the brewer out completely clear of the overhead cabinets to add water, mess with the filter basket, etc. The top cover could have been designed differently to reduce the need for so much clearance. As far as using the brewer goes, it was very simple even for someone completely new to making coffee. I had no issues with setup, use, or cleaning. After the first day I only referenced the manual to get the Tbsp of grounds measurement. So its not needlessly complicated, which is good. I’m pretty sure the last thing a coffee deprived person needs is a critical thinking exercise. The coffee it makes passed muster with my guests, and the strong brew option is a nice feature to have. My only complaint is about the height needed, but that will only affect those with similar restrictions. Otherwise the brewer is an excellent pickup.

Good looking coffee maker and so easy to use! I'm loving the chrome accents, it was very easy to setup. It uses paper filters by the way, so make sure you have those (they also sell an optional metal re usable filter by the way). It has a water filter too (its important to filter out any chlorine out of tap water for a better coffee flavor). I love how easy is to store it when not in use, the power cord is retractable. the maker itself has many functions, you can brew coffee on the spot or program it so you can have coffee ready on the morning (or night if you work nights). It can make up to 12 cups of coffee. Flavor is great and keeps coffee warm.

    No Surprises, One Disappointment

Mr. Coffee has been producing similar devices since the early-to-mid-1970s. This model is a little more fancy but the operation is still basically the same so there are no surprises in the function of this coffee maker. It has settings where you can program a delayed start time and where you can choose a stronger brewing cycle. It alerts you as to when you need to perform a cleaning cycle and it has a two-hour automatic shut-off. All settings and operations are intuitive. One curious inclusion here is a water filtration "system." They describe it as a "carbon-based water filter" that "helps remove up to 97% of the chlorine from the water." It is a replaceable round filter that fits in a three-pronged filter holder which then sits on top of the filter basket - so you have to remove and replace the contraption every time you add or remove coffee grounds (see photo). Something else they want you to feel responsible for buying from them? Seems gimmicky AND poorly designed. The single disappointment I have with this coffeemaker is that it came with neither trial coffee filters or, preferably, a permanent mesh filter - but they show one as a potential coffeemaker extra. Why would anybody sell a coffeemaker without any filters - surely a few paper filters wouldn't raise the production costs considerably.

If you love coffee, you'll love the 12-cup Mr. Coffee Strong Brew. Stainless steel set this Mr. Coffee brewing system apart from a lot of coffee machines. It looks sharp in any kitchen or office. The large 12-cup carafe can be removed for that first cup while still brewing the balance thanks to the grab-n-go filter cup. What I like is the final taste of my coffee. Can't burn if left on as the automatic 2-hour timer shuts off the warming plate if one forgets to shut off the unit. I don't know how the stronger brew button works, but I use it and am pleased with the results. The fill reservoir is easy to see in 2-cup increments. The large top opens for easy filter cup removal. You can choose to fill the water reservoir with the mail lid open or for a more surefill, close the main lid and use the second smaller water fill lid. Nice addition is the addition of a extra water filter that snaps on the filter basket to insure the water is super clean. Comes with a RED reminder tab that helps jog my memory as to the last time it was replaced. Fits nicely under the cabinet on the counter. Looks sharp and makes a more than decent pot of coffee to start my day. Almost forgot, has a handy delay brew setting for those busy mornings. Just set up the night before and your coffee will be waiting for you.

    Perfectly Serviceable Classic Coffee Maker

We have a classic coffee maker that's a few years old in our bar. Works just fine so when I got the chance to get this unit, I sent the old coffee maker off to college with my son for his freshmen year and had this shiny new one on our bar for our Irish coffee recipe. First impressions, exactly what to be expected from Mr. Coffee. I remember Mr. Coffee being the "preferred" premium brand when I was a kid in the 80's. If you had Mr. Coffee, you had THE GOODS! Unit was received as expected, nice packaging, attractive an understated box. Well packaged but easy to unbox. So far so good. Opened up and pulled out the unit. Very nice looking. Decent feel of quality. Plugged it in, set the clock ( I HATE incorrect clocks!) and made first pot... You now what it did? It made a nice pot of coffee! As previously noted, this unit is to be used in our basement bar for Irish coffee home-made recipe, so some of the "normal" features, I did not test (timer brew etcetera) and the strong brew feature was tested but did not really matter for our purposes. That said, I have no reason to believe that the claims would be untrue. End of the day, nice unit and a good choice for a quality unit at a very good price. I would recommend it to a friend.

The coffee pot is okay. It's not great and it's not bad - it's just okay. Here's why. It does look good, it's light and it doesn't take up a lot of room. It is easy to operate, and the coffee tastes good once you get the ratio correct. But it's not a fast brewing machine. I started the coffee maker 8 min ago and still not half done for 8 cups. Also, there is no backlit display. So if you're used to stumbling into your kitchen and seeing what time it is, you are out of luck. The added filter on top of the filter basket is ok. But it drives my spouse crazy as all the coffee grounds spater and cling to it. If I had to do it all over again - this would not be my first choice.

Needed a quick and inexpensive coffee maker to replace our Cuisinart. What better name than "Mr. Coffee" if you want a coffee maker. :) Very simple to use, we needed it to be programmable. It works very well and very simple. The only issue we had was making sure the coffee basket was set into the machine properly otherwise the machine will overflow and spill on the counter. the water and coffee filters are inexpensive and available on amazon. Will be using this machine until it gives out.

What a handsome, competent fella this Mr. Coffee is! And he doesn't cost too much. And he doesn't occupy an entire counter--just the right amount of space. He's tall enough to allow for coffee from his good-sized pot for everyone (when everyone visits), but not too tall to fit under the top cabinet. Programming his delay feature is easy--good thing for me!--and I can program whether I want strong or regular brew from the same amount of coffee. The Best Buy salesperson led me directly to my new friend when I explained my needs, but also introduced me, on my request, to Mr. Coffee's rivals for my affection. Mr. Coffee won my hand!

This is your typical everyday coffee maker with that is programmable, auto shut off, auto pause option when you want to grab a cup while its still in the brew process, so your typical coffee maker, but what sets it apart from the rest is the water filtration disk and the strong brew option which i haven't really seen on many coffee makers in this price range. The stainless steel look is also a nice touch, makes it fit in with your modern day kitchens. Now lets talk about the strong brew selector and the water filtration disk. The water filtration disk is a nice feature, honestly i am unsure how well it works because i use filtered water in my coffee makers anyways and being so thin i am not really sure that it would filter anything. The strong brew selector on the other hand did seem like it changed the taste of the coffee a bit, the coffee did seem stronger tasting. So if your looking to boost your morning with a strong cup of joe for a decent price this would be your go to. -Pro Strong Brew Price -Con Water Filtration disk (Useless in my opinion)

Operational Using it all up Test of the Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Strong Brew Selector, Stainless Steel - Stainless Steel Model:2131084 SKU:6421852 Drink hardy me pirates. Summary report: Product meets or exceeds described functions. Value large-size coffee pot with timer. Detailed results: Ran a pot of water through the pot to clean it. Plastic smell went away with the second batch. Put two large scoops of coffee in a 12 cup paper filter. Paper filter did not overflow with lots of grounds and strong brew processed the water at a slower rate of around 50% so as to squeeze every drop out of the grinds. The maker came with a top screen but no filters (had a large stash ready to go) . Nice thing about paper filters is you lift them out and to the trash. Be advised this unit takes round filters and not conical. Made a large 2 morning coffee for me as I usually drink 6 cups a day. Cord length was sufficient for my use. Coffee maker was finished off very nice (SS). Was able to snag a cup during brewing with the basket only having a minor drip. Coffee strength was perfect. The brew button also turns on the pot warmer and the brewing coil did shut down when the water tank was empty. The warming disk remained on as it should until automatic safety shutdown. Remember a coffee pot needs to always auto shut down as this is a serious safety issue that has federal requirements (this one meets or exceeds those requirements). I have seen coffee pots do the China syndrome at work when they were plugged in and left on all night. If it shuts off in less than two hours you can always hit the on button again. Safer is better. I always turn mine off and unplug after brewing and use the microwave for additional warming. No manuals online and only BB has this unit at the time of this review. Test equipment: Two caffeine addicts, filters, coffee, and lots of coffee grounds. Manuals: Could not find an online manual but the small one that comes with it is good enough Vender info: Warranty https://www.mrcoffee.com/service-and-support/product-support/product-faqs/warranty/warranty-faqs.html Description The Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Strong Brew Selector lets you brew a bolder cup of coffee. Wanted to try out Mr. Coffee’s newest coffee maker, and wanted something that would go with our SS and black kitchen appliances, plus one that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Unboxing and Setup: This is your basic coffee maker with a few bells and whistles added which give it a nice touch. In the box is the coffee maker, glass carafe, instructions, and that’s it, no filters come with it so you need to have those on hand. After taking it out of the box and removing the bags protecting it, you have to open up the top and remove some blue tape holding down the filter tray. After that give everything a rinse down and you are ready to go. It doesn’t hurt to run a full cycle just to clean the insides out also. Now after you plug it in you can set the clock and timers “just follow instructions”, it’s pretty easy. Or you can get to brewing right away. There a selection button for immediate brewing or delayed/timer. The button below lets you select brew strength. I do like the added Brew Time button in the center; it shows you how much time has elapsed so you know how long the brewing takes. The filter basket inside isn’t much different than other models, this one does have a filter disk that fits on the top of it with a slider for keeping track how old it is. This is something we won’t use as we have whole house filtration along with a RO system so there’s no need for it, but nice if your water quality isn’t that great. The water spray arm swings out of the way so you can remove the filter basket and once filled and replaced there’s no need to swing it back as there’s a lever that pushes it back into place over the basket once you close the lid. There’s a smaller door toward the back that you can open to fill the water tank, but you can fill either by opening the main lid or the smaller water filling cover. There’s also a clear strip on the sides of the tank showing just how much water you have added. Brewing: Brewing is simple and just like any other Mr. Coffee maker out there, no surprises here. The water starts coming out almost immediately and there is very little warm up time, and a full pot "strong setting" took right around 15min, that’s not bad for a 12 cup maker. Thoughts: This is a really good coffee maker, it has the timer functions that work as they should so you can have a fresh cup when you wake up in the morning. I usually make small batches, “4 cups” at a time as I like my coffee fresh and this one does that just fine. The larger carafe and capacity is nice if you happen to have company and need more. Using the strong brew setting, it does work and the brew came out a good bit stronger than what I expected using the same amount of coffee as I normally do which is a plus. So if you are looking for a really good coffee maker that can brew up a strong coffee and keep it warm for a good couple hours give this one a shot, it won’t break your wallet either.

Purchased this to replace a similar Mr Coffee drip coffee maker that gave up after nearly 7 years of daily use. The only difference is that this one has stainless steel banding and that expired one did not. This coffee maker looks great and my wife loves it because she didn't have to re-learn how to set it up. The price was right and Best Buy delivered it in 3 days. It's highly recommended. It produces great tasting coffee. Hoping to get another 7 years out of this one.

Excellent coffee maker, works perfectly every time. I like the "strong button" feature which basically just means it brews a little slower and really extracts all the coffee out of the grounds to get your moneys worth. Really easy to set the clock and timer. The only negative thing I can say about it is at the end of brew cycle it beeps 6 times when finished brewing which I really wish I could turn off. Other than that nothing disappointing, just a great machine.

This is a great Coffee Maker. Very attractive design . Has wonderful features and the coffee gets nice and warm. I was searching for a coffee maker that was not real big, because I have limited counter space. This is perfect if you do not want a coffee maker that takes up a lot of room. Another benefit is the carafe is not bulky and heavy like others, but it holds 12 cups. I give this Coffee maker 5 stars.
