Innovative Compact Design with a Couple of Cons

The Mr. Coffee combination brewer gives you the best of both worlds – a multi-cup carafe brewer and a single cup brewer – all in one and in a nice compact size. Pros: - Incredibly compact compared to other combination brewers - Attractive design Cons: - No water level / “add water” indicator, creates problems brewing if low. - Carafe only tends to hold temperature a couple of hours. - Carafe not dishwasher safe The brewer has the ability to brew a full pot (4-10 cups in 2-cup increments), which dispenses into an insulated carafe. I ultimately made the shift to a model like this while working from home & realizing I was going through 3-4 K-Cup pods daily, which can be expensive. The ability to brew several cups & keep coming back, while keeping the flexibility of a single cup option, turned me on to the unit. Water is filled with a removable tank on the back capable of brewing about 12 cups and includes a changeable charcoal water filter with a dial indicator to remind you when to change it. (More on tank issues below) Options during brewing include a “strong” mode, as well as the ability to schedule your brewer to start at a later time (programmable). To brew a single cup, the brewer uses a unique module that you place into the basket where you would place a filter and grounds (if you were brewing a multi-cup pot). The device automatically detects the module & size options change from “cup” quantity to “ounce” quantity – no settings change is required on the part of the user. The module then has a snap-open lid to place the individual K-Cup, with options of brewing sizes from 6-14 ounces per brew. That add-in module is what keeps the unit so compact. Other combination brewing systems are a full-sized multi-cup brewer with a full single-cup brewer attached to the side, making it twice as wide. In the end, with the add-in module, it requires no additional size than a standard brewer would. Cons: The brewer took about 10 pots of coffee to lose the “new” flavor. Several full pots initially had a taste of plastic. Eventually, this did dissipate. But to me the biggest downside to the unit is a lack of a “low water/add water” indicator. The device will allow you to start coffee brewing, whether it’s a full pot or a single cup, without ample water. Coming from a Keurig unit which had the indicator, a larger tank, and wouldn’t allow you to brew if the water is low, I forgot to check the level several times before starting the brewer. The brewer will start and exhaust all available water, then stop. When you add water, it doesn’t pick up where it left off, leaving you to figure out how much already brewed & what size you need to select to finish the pot or cup. Or, you end up scrapping the whole cup of coffee & starting over. Furthermore, if you run out of water during a single cup brew, it takes TWO brew cycles to get your coffee going again. It appears that the first brew after you add water moves water into the system & primes it, after which is stops again. Then the next start is the actual brew. All this leads to a half-brewed cup & then the risk of overfilling your cup when you restart it after adding water without changing the brew size. It would have behooved Mr. Coffee to add a water level indicator, especially since the tank isn’t easy to see if you have it tucked up under a cabinet. Also, the carafe doesn’t hold the temperature of the brewed coffee for more than a couple of hours before things start to cool off. I found if you fill the carafe with hot water from the sink & leave it in there for a few minutes while you work on adding the grounds to the machine, this helps by preheating the carafe. Also, the carafe is not dishwasher safe, so you’ll need a brush to be able to get into the pot to clean it. Summary: Overall, coming from a single-cup brewer, I really like the option of full pots or single cups in one unit without eating up more space on my countertop. While the frustration with the lack of a water level indicator is real, it simply means you have to get in the habit of refilling at any time. If you’re looking for a combo unit, I certainly recommend this unit.

We are always on the look out for good tasting instant coffee/tea. I was thrilled with the Mr. Coffee Pod as it offers both K-Pod and 10-cup sizes. We have never owned a Pod-style coffee maker but I've used the ones at work and really liked the compact nature. As I am used to the 10-cup style, this Mr. Coffee hybrid was the best of both worlds. After a few weeks using it, here are my thoughts. The compact sized of the machine fits really well in our already small kitchen. ditched our 12-cup traditional coffee maker which created twice the crea on the counter for this Mr. Coffee. The size did fool me becuase the coffee pot that accompanied can hold 10 cups. Design wise, on top of the coffee pot lies the K-Pod dispenser where the coffee filter would normally be located. Again, as a hybrid, you can either place a coffee filter or go with the K-Pod dispenser. The dispenser itself stores your K-Pod for it to dispense the content in to the pot or cup you use. The bottom of the K-Pod and the lid that covers the K-Pod each have a needle to puncture your Pod, so be careful! Behind the device lies the water container. The interface is pretty simple. The clock (Hour, Minutes, Strong brew, and Size of cup/pot. There are also a BREW LATER or BREW NOW OPTION. When using the Pod, you can either dispense 6oz, 8, oz, 10, oz, or 12oz. When using the traditional coffee method, you can brew up to 10 cups. We bought 4 types of Pods from Amazon because you do not have any sample pods with your device. Based on your strength and size preferences, it delivers really good and fast coffees. It depends on the brand you buy, but I really enjoy having the option of having instant brands and traditional methods in my kitchen now. Overall, a great device for our daily needs.

I had a cheaper coffee maker before and my wife and I decided to get a new one. This machine doesn't work properly, leaks water on the counter all time. The coffee doesn’t stay warm for more than 5 min because it doesn’t have a warm base to keep it.

I’ve been a coffee drinker for too many years, using every type of brewer imaginable. Percolator, drip, espresso, french press, pour-over and both of the major pod brands. In the end, I always seem to fall back to my Bunn speed brew - the model I base all others against. The only downside is when I want a quick single cup. Like many, counter space in my kitchen is limited so having two coffee makers just doesn't work. The Mr. Coffee Pod + solves this by combining full pot capability using a filter along with a single cup maker using K-Cup pod technology. There is also an included single cup K-Cup filter so you can use your favorite grind. When you first unbox the Mr. Coffee Pod+, the plastic smell is overwhelming, even after washing the parts. It took two days for this smell to subside. Making coffee is just like any other coffee maker, fill up the removable water reservoir, put your filter and coffee in the basket, select the number of cups you want to make with the selection button then press brew now. The pump pulls in a bit of water and heats quickly. The pump moves the hot water from the reservoir at a decent pace. I was impressed with the speed of the Pod+ brewer, a full carafe of coffee took just over 7 minutes, While not as fast as a Bunn, it's respectable and having the timer feature to have your brew ready when you want makes this not so much an issue. Using a pod is a multi-step process. You need to insert your pod into the pod holder, place the holder in the brew basket then put the brew basket into the machine - the machine knows it's a pod and changes from cups to ounces on the size selector button. Select your cup size, strong setting if desired then press the Brew Now button or you can schedule brewing for later using the Brew Later button. The finished cup from a K-Cup pod tasted as expected. There is an automatic shutoff on the brew basket for those who just can't wait to get to the coffee but I don't recommend doing this. Like most things the 80/20 rule comes into play here. 80% of the coffee is extracted in the first 20% of the brew time so you either end up with a strong first cup and weak rest of the pot or weak first cup and strong pot. A final thought on the shutoff feature. The trigger arm for the shutoff feature runs down the back of the unit which allows you use pretty much any thermal carafe that fits under the brew basket if you have others available and need to make multiple pots you should be good to go. The Pod+ has a timer so you can set it up at night to have your brew hot and ready when you wake up. Another reason you shouldn't have to use the brew pause feature. This also works with the pod feature - a really nice touch. There is a strong setting that pauses and slows the brew cycle, allowing the grounds to saturate, then continues the brew cycle leaving a stronger cup/pot of coffee. This setting adds about a minute to the brew time of a full carafe. Unfortunately, it does not remember this setting and you have to press it for each brew. While brewing a carafe, the Pod+ pours the hot water in a steady stream in the middle of the brew basket and there is not enough turbulence to stir all the grinds so the top grinds around the edges suffer from an incomplete extraction making the finished product not quite as full bodied as my Bunn. The strong setting helps with this a little. The Pod+ comes with a stainless steel thermal carafe which works well. Running a 10 cup regular brew cycle, the liquid temp was 186. After three hours it was 168. Overall, I like the Mr. Coffee Pod+ coffee maker and have been looking for something that would make both pods and full pots for some time. It makes a decent cup of coffee from both the pod and carafe. Yes I would recommend the Mr. Coffee Pod+ Thermal Carafe brewer to a friend with this caveat - buy this brewer if you regularly make pots of coffee and have an occasional desire for pods. I think the somewhat convoluted (although unique) way this machine handles pods would become frustrating with everyday use, versus simply lifting and lowering a handle - but it works. I think the addition of some type of diverter to shower the water over the brew basket for a more even distribution and better extraction would take this model from just good to great.

Good Quick Coffee in a Compact design

The Mr. Coffee Pod + 10-Cup coffee maker is exactly what most people need. It's biggest feature is the space saving design combining the ability to brew single serve K-Cup compatible pods, and coffee grounds. Making it just as easy to get 1 cup of coffee( using any compatible pod) or 10 cups (using fresh or store bought coffee grounds). The combination feature of pods and whole pots of coffee have been around for a while, but this space saving design makes it more practical.  The coffee maker stands at 14 and 3/8s inches tall, 6 and 1/8s inches wide, and 11 and 6/8s inches deep (minus the carafe handle). If you include the carafe handle it is 13.5 inches deep. These dimensions fit into the compact design sizes for coffee makers that just use carafes, but when you consider that this is a combination coffee maker, it is pretty impressive. I am glad to see that Mr. Coffee has not made their own brand of pods and has adapted their machine to use the K-cups. I have had several pod coffee makers in the past that use only their brand pods, and while the coffee was very good, it was always a little annoying that either I couldn't find the pods at certain stores, or I had to order them online, and I couldn't get some of the popular or unique flavors offered by so many different manufacturers compatible with K-cups. The controls are pretty simple. After you set the clock, you just need to figure out if you are going to brew something now or later. The "Brew Later" button lets you enter a time to start brewing your desired coffee, just don't forget to fill the water tank and add the coffee. The "Brew Later" feature needs to be set every night if you want your coffee early in the AM, which is not that big a deal, as you would still need to fill the water tank and add the coffee every night anyway. The "Brew Now" button will start the machine brewing right away, so make sure you have selected the right size ounces or cups for your current need. When the basket is in place, it will give you the cup options, by inserting the "pod holder" it will be expecting to make a single serving pod with either 6oz, 8oz, 10oz, or 12oz of water. Most pods are designed for 8 to 10oz brewing, so the more water the weaker the brew.  I timed all the brewing cycles, here are my results : single pod with 8oz of water .............= 1min 25secs single pod with 8oz of water, strong  = 1min 55secs 4-cups ground coffee........................= 3min 40secs* 4-cups ground coffee, strong ...........= 4min 30secs* 10-cups ground coffee......................= 7min 40secs* 10-cups ground coffee, strong..........= 8min 15secs* *brewing actually finishes about 40 seconds before the machine beeps indicating it is finished, but allows approximately 40 seconds for any final drips. ( The "Grab-A-Cup" feature will let you remove the carafe to grab a quick cup of coffee before brewing is finished. When the Carafe is removed the lever behind the carafe releases, pausing the brew until the carafe is replaced) I also measured the temperature of the brewed coffee being poured out of the carafe: 0 minutes after brew =  170'F 1 hour after brew      =  130'F 2 hours after brew    =   80'F The insulated carafe does a pretty good job at preserving the temperature and flavor for a couple hours. Some people might miss a burner to keep the coffee warm, but a burner can actually burn the coffee ruining the flavor, and stinking up the kitchen. Another reason there is probably no burner on this model, is that I can see a burner screwing up a lot of coffee mugs/cups that might have plastic or rubber on the bottom of them. As you can place your travel mug under the brew basket while dispensing either a pod, or brewed grounds for oversized coffee mugs. Plus, it only takes a few seconds to warm your coffee in the microwave if needed (the carafe is metal, so it can not go in a microwave). This machine has a single drip system for brewing, which is what most machines have, and works easier with the combination design of this machine. Because of the single drip being centered, you are going to want to heap as much of your grounds into the center of the filter and basket before brewing. If you spread out your grounds evenly or too far to the sides you might be missing a lot of flavor.  The "Strong Brew" works by slowing down the brewing cycle and even taking a short pause to let the water soak up more flavor.I actually noticed a stronger flavor using the "Strong Brew" mode, which you can even use with the pods. One other cool feature about this machine is that it comes with it's own water filtration unit that pops into the water reservoir, the filter is good for about 30 days, and helps to remove chlorine and other tap water impurities to give you the best flavor possible.  Mr Coffee recommends daily cleaning of the basket, pod holder and carafe. These items can be cleaned with soap and water, or a dishwasher. The water reservoir and carafe lid are not dishwasher safe. A solution of water and vinegar can be run through the system to clean the actual machine, just make sure to remove the water filter before doing this, there are full directions for this in the manual. The manual also has a recommended coffee measurement chart for the ground coffee: 5tbs = 4cups 7tbs = 6cups 9tbs = 8cups 10tbs=10cups Overall this coffee maker is perfect for our coffee making needs, my youngest son uses it to brew hot chocolate k-pods, my oldest son prefers the gourmet blended coffee grounds, and my wife enjoys the multiple varieties of the k-pod coffees. It delivers a nice quick brew every time. I love the fact that it doesn't take up too much of my counter space, and that the carafe keeps the coffee somewhat sealed so I don't have the myriad of different flavors and scents everyday.

This is a very simple, easy to use dual purpose coffee maker. Physically, it is pretty small and nice to keep on a counter top. It has a good build quality, and the carafe is very solid feeling. You have two brewing choices: pot using a traditional filter and grounds, or use a special brew basket with a spot for a k-cup pod. This is handy and easy to use. You simply select how many cups you want from 1-10 and hit brew, no other silly settings to change. Very easy to use and go back and forth between settings. I've had coffee taste better out of other coffee pots, but they cost MUCH more, so the bang for your buck with this coffee pot is great!

First off, I'm not a huge coffee drinker. When I want a cup of Joe, I prefer it to be as easy as possible. So, like everyone else, I have the name brand pod machine on my counter. I haven't used a Mr. Coffee machine in years and boy did I notice it today. I opened the box and it came with the unit, one water filter pod and holder, the reusable pod with it's housing and the stainless carafe. I washed/rinsed all the pieces with soap and hot water, then I ran 2 cycles through the machine, first with a filter alone and then no filter (because I forgot to put the water filter pod in the tank the first go round) duh. Then I looked through the instruction (which except for this were good) to see how much coffee I needed to put in the single serve pod. I couldn't find that anywhere, so full cup it is. I didn't use the strong serving because I did the standard 8 cup. I think that's standard. The manual says 8 cups works with normal, but to use strong on 10 and 12 cups if you find your coffee weak. But when I insert the coffee, the machine started at 6 cups...go figure and I raised it to 8. Well in just a minute or so, I found out what I was missing. It tasted great and this was with some older grounds that I keep sealed pretty good, but still old. It made my pod machine taste like I've been drinking coffee light. I got to say I'll take the time to either buy pods for this machine or rinse the reusable pod as needed. This unit will probably take over the other machines spot on the counter just as soon as I finish my stock of pods. As for the construction of the unit. I think it's great. The unit is slender for kitchens like mine with minimal counterspace. It feels well constructed and the carafe is well built. Although the top of the carafe is plastic, it's nice and thick and doesn't look like it will break tomorrow. So many plastic items seem to crack with just a few uses. I think this machine will last a long time, just like many of the old Mr. Coffee machines do. I guess that about sums it up. I don't see any down side to the machine. It has just the needed functions, water reservoir, water filter, reusable pod, nice carafe, and something I won't use, but many will, a brew later function. For those that like to set up for a morning brew, you can enter a time in the machine and it will keep the time in memory. All you need to do is set it up to brew each night and press the brew later button. It will stay illuminated so you know it's on and that's it. If you need to cancel it, just press the button again. If you need to change the time, reset the brew later cycle and adjust the brew time. Like I said above, just what you need and it's set up nice and easy to use. I'd recommend it to anyone that likes a great tasting cup of coffee.

I am honestly less than impressed with this dual function coffee maker. To begin with, I have just recently tested a competitors coffee maker with carafe within the same price range and was pleased with the styling, build, and most importantly the taste. That said my expectation for what should be the “Bar” was not beat or really even met with the Mr. Coffee. Out of the box, there was minimal assembly, and it was recommended to wash the carafe and water container. I was not overly impressed with the design, build quality, or feel of this coffee maker. It feels like a coffee maker you might find in a hotel room. To be clear though the carafe is perfect and pretty much the only reason I would recommend. The pod part of this unit is an OK at best. You have to pull the tray out and then inside the tray that would normally hold a filter and grounds is a contraption that you open and place in a POD for brewing. I went out and bought several different POD varieties, ranging from quite cheap to not cheap at all. What I found was that certain blends brewed perfectly, and others tasted watered down even on the strong setting. Whereas another POD style device I have would brew those exact same PODs exceptionally well. Now the reusable POD that was included in mine (big plus in my Green book) does brew very well and is the one I use more often than any of the others. Again, the insertion and removal of the PODs is a manual task with a tray that I think I am going to break before too long. The traditional coffee is fine and as mentioned the carafe is genuinely nice to have sitting on the table at breakfast. The water container does come with a filter with a recommended replacement every 6 months. The filter is very nice and makes our less than desirable tap water taste like bottled artesian. I had hoped for more from a dual function device at this price point, but I will say I like it, I am just not in love with it.

This coffee machine is an excellent addition to my kitchen. My old machine was pod only. When family would visit, it would have been nice to make a carafe for everyone. Now I have the best of both worlds. On top of that, the machine actually has a smaller footprint than the old machine, and is easier to clean. I especially like the "strong" option. It pushes some water into the grounds and lets it sit for a minute before it fills your cup. It makes the coffee have a stronger flavor. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for a couple hours after brewing.

Mr. Coffee Pod + 10-Cup Coffee Maker

Received my Mr. Coffee + 10-Cup Coffee Maker about a week ago and have been testing it out. First off, we love coffee. Secondly, we love this coffee maker. It has truly made mornings bearable with the crazy weather we've seen over the last week. This coffee maker is really simple. Inside the box comes just the coffee maker along with the stainless steel carafe, and the user manual. This coffee maker is very sleek and matches everything else in our kitchen (stainless steel appliances) and looks very nice on our counter. The water reservoir on the back of the coffee maker is detachable which makes it easy to fill and clean. Inside the bottom of the reservoir is where you can connect the included water filtration. The coffee holder can be adjusted to allow you to use either K-Cups or pods or you can remove the K-cup holder to make room for a filter and make your coffee the regular way. I did feel the coffee holder to be somewhat finnicky with the way it slides out and how you have to make sure its sitting just right to slide in with no issue. This could've been tweaked just a little more, but still not a deal breaker at least not for me. On the carafe, at the top of the handle is a button that you press to pour and also turn the lid counter clockwise to take the lid off to clean inside the coffee pot. Other settings on the digital display on the front of the coffee make allows you to brew now or later and choose what strength you'd like, in addition to what size cup you're making if you choose to make individual cups using pods or K-Cups. Overall we love this combo coffeemaker with choices it provides all in one system which means it takes up less counterspace.

Good things come in small packages. For a coffee maker that can brew 10 cups and use k-cups, this coffee maker has a very small footprint. If you have limited counterspace and like to have a coffee pot and a 1 cup coffee maker, this is hard to beat. The removable reservoir has an included water filter as well. You can select either regular brew or strong brew for both single cups and full pot. One of my favorite features is the thermal carafe. I can’t tell you how many glass carafes I have cracked over the years and for most coffee makers, replacing the pot is not cheap! There are a couple of minor items that I am not too fond of. First, the single cup insert is a bit clumsy to operate, but I image after multiple uses, it becomes easier. The second is that I hate basket filters. They are hard to separate and getting them to sit in the basket just right can be a pain. Especially when half asleep and desperate for that first cup. As I said these are minor issues for me. As for the coffee. It was excellent. No burnt or over brewed taste, even on the strong setting. The timer. So if you like to set the coffee the night before to brew first thing in the morning, you have the feature for it. I never use it since I have always felt it diminishes the fresh taste when sitting in the basket overnight, but I feel that way about every coffee maker. Overall, this coffee maker is an excellent choice. Not just if you want to save space and want a coffee maker with single cup and full pot capabilities. I have an existing coffee maker that costs 4 times as much and the taste is just as good from this one. You really cant go wrong.

This coffee maker is great for both the pods and carafe brewing methods. It does save space for us but our one complaint is that the cord is a little shorter than our previous coffee maker. We can make that work though as this machine is quick and quiet with a pot/thermos that keeps the coffee plenty hot. The machine is also very easy to clean. We would definitely recommend for its small size and versatility.

We were looking for a coffee pot to use at the cabin when I came across the Mr. Coffee Pod + 10 Cup Combo Brewer with Thermal Carafe. I wasn't too sure how the thermal carafe would compare to our existing glass pot with a warming burner but I was attracted to the idea of having the K-cup alternative incorporated into a traditional coffee pot. The appliance itself is solidly built and I went from box to first cup of coffee in about 20 minutes. The control panel is intuitive and feels good to the touch. I had to scramble to find some paper filters as we were used to a metal mesh filter (which I believe is available as an option). The unit also has a built-in water filter that took a few seconds to suss out but is functional. According to the documentation we will need to replace it every 30 days or 30 pots which will be a bit tedious. Let me state emphatically that my concerns about the thermal carafe were totally put to rest. This thing keeps your coffee hot for a LONG time! My only complaint is that pouring from it is pretty slow but I'll take that over the spilling that our old glass pot did when it was full! The K-cup option is less impressive. I don't know what I was expecting but you have to use a special insert that replaces the filter and I can see that becoming a novelty that will become more of a bother than it is worth. So, overall, this is a good product, easy to use and deserves consideration if you are looking for a good cup of coffee from a name that is synonymous with with quality products.

The Mr. Coffee - Space-Saving Combo 10-Cup Coffee Maker and Pod Single Serve Brewer - Stainless-Steel/Black is perfect for an individual or a group of coffee drinkers. I can use a pod or a reusable K cup to brew me one cup of coffee or I can brew enough for a group of coffee drinkers using the carafe. Also, it is programmable for single serve and full pots for waking up in the morning. There is a way to brew stronger tasting coffee with the strong brew button. The shape and size of the Mr. Coffee - Space-Saving Combo 10-Cup Coffee Maker and Pod Single Serve Brewer - Stainless-Steel/Black makes it a definite space saving coffee maker. The pot is insulated and keeps coffee warm for a very long time. The water reservoir is removable and inside of it is a removable filter that you can easily replace. Clean up and maintenance is easy breezy with regular soap and water and white vinegar being the only items needed for cleaning. I like drinking coffee made with the Mr. Coffee - Space-Saving Combo 10-Cup Coffee Maker and Pod Single Serve Brewer - Stainless-Steel/Black.

This Mr Coffee space saving combo coffee maker is an awesome coffee maker that can make a traditional pot of coffee as well as a single cup from the ubiquitous k-cups. A huge plus is the thermal carafe that allows you to keep a pot of coffee warm without needing to use a hot plate and saves your coffee from having a burned taste the longer it sits It has the expected programmable settings and a stronger brew setting that goes a little slower to extract more flavor from your grounds. It really is awesome how small this thing is considering it makes a nearly-full-size pot at 10 cups. It is not much more of a footprint than the smallest single cup brewers.
